Horse Racing & Tips Thread

3.00A Have already got a small EW on the one I mentioned earlier, but the one I like, on form, is Espoir De Guye. Currently 6/1 5 places.

3.35A Defi Du Seuil has a good chance of winning this, will be amazed if not in the first 3. 4/1

2.10T If The Cap Fits shoudl be good enough to beat the fav in this race. 5/2

2.45T Brewin'upastorm. Back over hurdles and down in grade, this should have enough to beat these. 4/1

Will probably do a win yankee on those 4, with maybe a small treble on the last 3.

For the competition

1.50A Lightly Squeeze

Navan has been abandonded

Good luck everyone

12.40A I rarely bet in Juvenile Hurdle's but Tritonic was a good horse on the flat and I know the stable think he has a good chance of winning this, he's been gelded and is working well at home. Not the biggest price, but the evens currently available works out slightly better than the 2.02 available on betfair, so would be surprised if this isn't odds on at the start of the race. The stats also back up the selction, Alan King has had 3 runners in this race since 2012, winning with all 3, showing he targets this race. His form with first time out runners this season is excellent, 29.11% which increases to 48.15% with flat recruits rated 80 and above (Tritonis is rated 99 on the flat). Think this is an excellent short priced bet today.

Already under evens but got it there with oddsboost so let's try :)

One double with short prices for today:
1.35 Taunton: Chinwang @ 2.63
4.10 Ascot: Valleres @ 3.00
Sunday
2.40 Born to Fin(n)ish (how could this lose)

And for comp, thanks @Kenji85

1.50 Ascot: Arrivederci
Navan seem to be off today?
Goal scorer: Bruno Fernandes from penalty spot, utd can't be many games without getting one

edit: One long shot EW Patent for Ascot:

1.50 Arrideverci @ 8.00, BOG
3.00 Acting Lass @ 17.00, BOG
5.35 Fanion Destruval @ 11.00, BOG

Cheers Col, doubled my hundred :) Or think it was 2.25 at start so don't mind if BOG overrides my oddsboost...

And if anyone wonders why odds are priced like that lol it is because i often use the Canadian site at WH. I much prefer the old site they had and you can not get it if you have language as English so i use Canadian and can use the old style site.

I always look for weird combinations with trainer/jockey I dont remember seeing Tom Cannon riding for Henderson before so it stood out for me off bottom weight.
Had it EW @11/1, in a lucky 15 @11/1 and a Lucky 15 @ SP 14-1 ( hate that Sky dont give BOG on races with extra places/money back anymore), so it has me well covered for today.

So looks like salahs goal and born to finish winning at Lingfield leaves @cncas2123 The winner.

Congrats I'll be in touch tomorrow!
Cheers Kenji85 for the comp.
I had decided during the week what I was going to do if I won the comp and I will do a Lucky 15 next weekend and put up my own comp with any winnings. But I will also make a small donation ( £15) to the Injured Jockeys Fund, these are the people that give us entertainment day in day out, the people we shout at when we think we know better how the horse should be ridden etc.
Again, thanks for the comp and your generosity.

4.20P Magen's Moon. Longshot and not one for a big bet, but currently 25/1 4 places with a few firms. She started off in Ireland with top Irish trainers but now trained by Phil York. She won two handicap hurdles here a little while ago on soft and good ground. She might have needed her last run which was her first start of the season. She races off a mark of 99 tomorrow, which is identical to her last winning mark at Plumpton. She's possibly still fairly handicapped over hurdles. It's also possible she is not very good and will come last, but I wouldn't be laying at the current price and terms. It won previously at 28/1 so the price shouldn't be off putting, and won this class of a race, on soft, over C&D. Small EW at PP for me.

1.10C Jumira Bridge 6/5
4.15K Culture 7/2
6.15K Bravado 10/3
4.10C Indigo Times 7/4

Probably do a small yankee on those for a bit of an interest :)

Good luck today.

It's into 16/1 now but a non runner in the race so 10p R4, but the 25/1 with the R4 is still better than the current price by quite a long way.

Apologies to anyone I have missed out, this is on behalf of all the contributors on what I believe is the best thread on CM.

Nothing really jumping off the page today, but in the 12.45T Allaho is currently odds on. Clearly he's priced on his best form, which if he can reproduce, is a fairly decent price. However, he's ran twice this season, and both times ran massively under that, beaten 20l and 34l respectively. Obviously he might win today, but I wouldn't be taking 8/11 about him.
I think Battleoverdoyen will be the one to take advantage so will have a few quid on him and also a small RFC with Elimay

Good luck today

I've not had a bet yet but I wouldn't put anybody off Elimay in the 12.45 at Thurles. Currently 5/1.

Unbeaten as a chaser and has a stablemate and short priced fav to beat in Allaho but the fav for all the huffing and puffing it does has its head in front once in the last albeit in good company but was beaten 20L last time out and Elimay has been keeping decent company too.
If there were an 8th runner. I would be max betting Elimay each way. Mark Walsh has won 3 times last year including over course distance on board even the comeback run in 2nd was hardly a disgrace!

I've talked myself in backing Elimay win only:rolleyes::laugh:

Looked like Elimay had the favs measure coming to the last, but I was mightily impressed with the way Allaho pulled away, looked to me like a horse who would be powering up the hill at Cheltenham with a bit off cut in the ground in the Ryanair.

Ya. I thought at prices Elimay was the bet and like I said one more runner and I would have been all over it each way. Effectively 10lb worse off with the fav today on ratings. Alloha will definitely need cut to figure at the festival. If irish horses even travel god knows at this stage!

On another note your name for the donation Casinomeister Racers has a good ring to it.
We should start a syndicate The CM Racers Club

3.25 Gowran Park is a fascinating race.

Some of these have National aspirations, and are likely to be entered at some point. Anything running in this off 141 or above (so anything above Roaring Bull on the racecard) will put their participation in the National at risk, as they will go up 4-6lb for winning this, or being close. Some of them will be running just to make sure they fulfil the qualifying condition of running in a 3m+ chase this season, and I'm sure the jockeys of those will have been told not to be too hard on the horse.

Coko Beach is a lot shorter now than earlier in the week, and will be ok if he wins for the National. 8/1 is a bit skinny though, but can't see him being out the first 6.
Smoking Gun is another at 8/1, who has a decent chance now he's got in as a reserve. Been sustained money for him too.
Speak Easy is my outsider of the race, currently 28/1 with PP and BF, and think he will outrun that price by quite a long way. I would have him around a 12/1 shot.

Olly Murphy is no mug, and think Jones Well will be winning today in the 4.05F. Was 25/1 last night and even though there's a significant non runner, that wouldn't result in him being 4/1 now if there wasn't any money & confidence for him. About 23% of the money on betfair has been traded on him so far. Big question mark is the jockey who has a lot of PU's next to his name over the past couple of weeks, albeit some of those were on 200/1 outsiders.

Good luck today

Ya really good card at Gowran. Including the thyestes chase at 3.25.

Paddy Power paying 6 places 1/5.

Its wide open and plenty with chances. I do think if Brahma Bull stays upright he'll take some stopping. Ground no issue. Jumping needs to be sharper but the big field will actually help with that.
So Brahma Bull ew at 7/1 6 places.

The 2.40 is a decent hurdle and competitive.
Speculative tenner win on burrows saint. 2nd last time out and hit a real flat spot. It was the first run in over a year though so I expect a fitter horse here.
So Burrows Saint win at 9/1
money back with PP if 2nd,3rd or 4th.

Gl all having a bet.

I watched that Col and I think that it was just one race too soon. One for the slate maybe?

I'm looking forward to some decent racing tomorrow :)
I was looking forward to some decent racing tomorrow as well, was hoping to invest the winnings from @Kenji85 's comp, with the intention of picking a winning bet and having a comp next week, but its not great shakes tomorrow so I will hold fire until next weekend.

Its not the greatest but it suits my big field ew betting.
Have you every seen such blatant cheating? This guy looks like he jump the last then thought "Oh shit my instructions where not to win"

I think i would be very aggrieved if I had backed that horse, looked like it had plenty in the tank and in my opinion the jockey should be banned for a year if he is a professional.

You put me in mind of this pig of a horse - I had backed Hardy Eustace the year before when it won at 33-1, but I had singles doubles and treble this day on the first 3 races with Arcalis @25-1. Contraband @ 7-1 and was waiting for Harchibald for my bet, I thought I was home and hosed...

Harchibald was a traders dream. He always looked like he was coming home with a heap of horse under him still on the bridle.

Paul Carberry rode him so many times arse cocked up in the air like he had a tonne of horse under him. Harchibald was a decent horse. I remember him winning a fighting fifth hurdle without being touched against rooster booster and a couple of other really good horses.

The problem was you could just never tell if the horse was still cruising or flat to the mat. One thing was for sure. He hated that hill

Never got up the hill, but he was definitely a very high class hurdler.

2.40D Good race this, I'm going for Portstorm, 40/1 4 Places. Think his front running tactics will see him possibly hold on for at least a place, at a big price. Also like Took the Lot here at 50/1, but think he might not stay and fade in the last couple of f. Fern Hill is the other I looked at for this race.

1.30D Shishkin clearly should win this without breaking sweat, but I think Est Illic might have a chance of getting second. 100/1 is ridiculously high, I would have thought around 25/1 would have been the correct price so happy to have a couple of £ EW on it at that price. Be very surprised if it's not shorter at the off and being able to lay some back off. It's also currently 28/1 for a top 2 finish at Boylesports which I would defo have a couple of £ on if I used them.

Another couple I looked at and will stick with those above for a lucky 15.

3.15 The Butcher Said 20/1 5 places

2.35K By Jove 9/1 4 places

Good luck today

Small each way yankee. I will mainly be watching rugby and premier league.
I do agree with Colin that Shiskin should win doing handstands on all known form.

I went for Canelo in the 3.15 5 places at 6/1 C&D form is very good and the price is fair.

The other three are a little more speculative but all have a very decent shout imo.

Harchibald did seem to be cruising but I have heard it be said that some horses do not take kindly to be shaken up too much or hit with the whip? Or was it just poor jockeyship ?

I'm quite disappointed about the abandoned meeting but,Meh!

This is my main bet for the afternoon. I did think about sticking an each way round robin on Laura Pearsons rides today but then thought better of it. She is a class act who Hollie must be looking over her shoulders at.
Good luck with all of your bets today :)

Harchibald and Paul Carberry were a match made in heaven. The horse had to be kidded in to the race, he only ever raced on the bridle and when he was let down he never found a thing, but he had such a great cruising speed.
Paul Carberry was the perfect jockey for him, he used to just creep along in a race, very much in the same mould as Ruby Walsh, and he always seemed to have his horse in the right place at the right time. He seemed to get a lot of injuries and was very unlucky in that respect.
Harchibald was pure class, just a pity he couldnt get up the hill at Cheltenham, but he still won over half a million quid in prize money, and a bad horse doesnt do that.
Here's an old one of how good the pair were together.

I missed years of racing due to working too much as well as other priorities so Harchibald passed me by. Its only in recent years after working a lot at racecourses that I got back into it
