I had a really bad cold for the past week and when I have one, the last thing I feel like doing is smoking. So I havent had a smoke for almost 6 days now. Here is my start to quitting. I will admit the last 3 nights I have had serious cravings in the evening but so far been able to resist temptation.

Im on the road to being cigarette free :D,

Very good...
I am a smoker myself and I did quit in the past...
Stayed off them for well over a year but unfortunatelly I went back on them one night after a few drinks...I know it is a cliché...
Planning to give it another go myself very soon so I hope you will manage to stay off them too...
Be strong and good luck and keep us posted...:thumbsup:

Had the strongest and longest bout of 'man flu' in 10 years plus myself the last few days. Still haven't shifted it fully!

Usually I get rid of a cold within 24 hours and are pretty lucky (touch wood) when it comes to this sort of thing so no real complaints, however like yourself it does make you wanna back right off the ciggies!

I usually smoke about 20 a day ( yeah I know lol) but this week 20 has lasted me since roughly Monday and I am 'nubbing' them early too.

They actually taste disgusting but I just cannot overcome that craving, trouble is I've been in this boat before and I know as soon as my illness is 100% gone and taste buds return etc, then its back to Chuffington Central :(

Good luck and have stronger will power than my weak ass efforts lol

i was able to quit for 3 months last year, i thought is permanent but were 3 months of torture and unhappiness with temptations wherever id go, the lungs never stopped to ask for more and in the end i gave them. now that i've seen how is like, the good and the badest bad, not going to this route again be it health related or economical. you need more than luck, adding patience, worry free, stress free, angry free, to learn drinking coffee without it and become hermit alike. factors like hardness of cigs, how old is the habit and how many around your circle are smokers will be decisive.

You need willpower. Don't let the non smoking brigade fool you, the cravings don't let up . Years and years after my last puff I am still longing hard for a smoke frequently.

That said, it is possible to do it and you will save money and the health benefits are huge. If you manage it you should be extremely proud of yourself. When you have the right motivation and you truly want to do it, you will succeed.

It is just when I read websites that say stuff like "6 months later the cravings should be fully gone" - they have no idea

Good for you, I was off them for nearly all last year (I went off them due to being pregnant:)), stayed off them for 3 months after my wee man was born, then some friends called and they smoke, long story short I started again, and started gambling again over christmas to get a few wins to contribute to our wedding this year:D

It's said to be harder than quitting heroin, but if you make it past the third day, you're pretty golden.
Change the crave to something productive like 5 crunches or eat a 1 calorie mint

@fun4all - my mother always says, she's been a non smoker for 40 yrs but is always just ONE cigarette away from being a smoker again

Anyway, gl

Thanks! This is exactly how I feel, too!

I quit regular cigs 3 years ago and then the e-cig about 8 months ago. So, I am Nicotine free but the cravings have not gone and my chest still feels heavy BUT I know that I am doing my self a favor.

It's great to know that I can just swap out the cost of cigs per month with a car payment on an Audi or BMW, or whatever your preference is....more savings, more money for gambling..;).

It is hard to do and it does suck when the cravings come on strong BUT THIS IS WHAT IS MEANT TO FEEL LIKE. IT SUCKS!. Just go through it and think it through. Sometimes one has just got to be ready for change.

Best of luck.

Thanks secret, Sometimes I think I was the only one who still craves years and years down the line!

When I say crave I don't mean very occasionally I mean solidly, everyday. It infuriates me when literature on quitting says these pass in time, for me they have not. However I wanted to quit and still do so it passes. When the cravings come on like you said I think about it - mostly the health benefits and money saved, then it passes until the next time

Lockin,

I am not a smoker but I know people who have done this recently, and it's not easy.

Continuing the forum fun, I want to add an incentive from 32Red for your efforts. If you make it until the end of the month - $200 cash is yours added to your casino account (if you have one).

I realise this incentive is all about trust. If you don't make it, I would like you to be honest. If you don't make it, I will add $50 to a forum member's account of your choice as long as you publicly admit your failure. :)

Happy healthy lungs. :)

This is why you're such a great rep/person. Because you post in threads not even related to your casino or gambling for that matter and are genuinely concerned and helpful of other people. You dont see other reps lining up to support other people like that

I will be honest about how I do. And to be even more honest..I think I will make it because of the incentive. Which will mean you will have a helping hand in getting a person to be more healthy and probably live a healthier life.

You are a good person and you should be proud of yourself

That sums up exactly what I was about to comment about Mark. Super guy and super rep for 32red :notworthy

Ps well done on not smoking keep it up mate. And next month if u ever got any bad cravings then there is always vaping as that does not count as smoking. But yeah much better if you can keep total clear but just a suggestion in future. Keep clear of those smelly buggars. I have just stopped 3 days ago only and only doing my vape again now. Hope I will make it proper this time as I did over 6 months last time i tried.... grrr

Or someone who spends too much (spare, honestly boss) time on here. :)

Genuinely though, it's all about paying back and having fun. We (I think that includes a lot of operators) learn a lot from feedback on here - I don't reply to moans of RTP or payout time complaints because that's something I can't control. But if we can add something extra, why not?

However if someone asked me to stop drinking (slurp) there would be $50 going to someone else on here! Good luck to the OP!

Okay I think you need to stop with your drinking Mark hehe.

I have a suggestion instead you could get 0% nicotine vape. You can many different drinks like with Whiskey taste or even Sex on the Beach...(not sure why I mentioned that haha) :D But yeah you get the hint. I think that would maybe help you. :p

Probably the best and most accurate thing I have read since joining CM!:thumbsup:

Guys please give up smoking. I gave up at 30 and its the best decision Ive ever made. If you must smoke have a cigar as you dont inhale.

Unfortunately, smoking, drinking and gambling go together. It's the perfect mix.

While I no longer smoke ciggies I love the occassional Cuban. Absolutely beautiful.

Oh stop it you. Just accept the compliment that you are a genuinely good person :D

I went another full day yesterday without smoking. I havent had too serious of issues with it yet but im thinking thats because im still getting over a cold. Will be curious to see how I feel in 3-4 days from now.

And speaking of alcohol....Im gonna have to stay away from that for a couple of weeks it looks like. Cause they go hand in hand. Same with coffee.

OMG. No cigs..no alcohol...no coffee. The end of the world is near? Boy oh boy..my body is gonna be like wtf are you doing to me. I havent had bad chemicals for a long time.

Yeah be careful with that mate, they do go hand in hand plus alcohol makes you do things you wouldn't do if you were thinking straight. Very tough part that of quitting.

It actually made me cut down on alcohol significantly, because I don't enjoy getting drunk as much without the smoking hit. I can't cut down on coffee/tea though I love it too much - and that's when the worst cravings come.

It's not all doom and gloom though, every time I think of the health benefits or the amount of money saved or the achievement of quitting itself, all the cravings suddenly disappear

On my bedside table is Allen Carr's "Easy Way to Stop Smoking", awaiting me. I have started the book before but didn't get through it, I guess because I wasn't ready. I believe this is my year and as I take control of my life once again, I know it is moving up to the top of my priority list. I joined Weight Watchers a week ago and abandoned my daily glasses of wine, resulting in a 5 lb loss the 1st week. I know I need the structure of a program, because left to my own devices I will stumble. 35 more pounds to go!

When I read your post it reminded me of much of what Allen Carr says in his book about why we don't quit and the messages we tell ourselves. I have known fully fledged, never thought they would quit kind of smokers, use his method after countless other times of trying to quit and finally succeeding after reading his book. I recommend it to you and to all other non-believers to give it a try and I hope I will be adding my own "I quit smoking" story to the forum soon! Here's a link:

I have always thought that as long as I believe smoking is just too hard to do, it will be. That is why I am drawn to his message and approach!
Wishing us all great success and a happier, healthier and unchained life!

LOCKINLOVE WARNING!! DONT READ MY POST, WILL NOT HELP YOUR ADVENTURE

just while reading the text on that link i had to have a puff
that text is nothing new, i've read similar ones load of times when i was with the plan in month two phrase, trying to keep it a success. from then lasted one more month. see here how i quit https://www.casinomeister.com/forums/threads/34668/
all experts advises are directed for short-term. they don't have a plan at how long to go with the terror if the awful sensations don't go, all the ones are aiming the psychological aspect with positive thinking(which is not my thing).

3) Your body will continue to withdraw from nicotine for a few days but that doesn’t mean you have to be miserable. The physical withdrawal is very slight – there is no pain – and it passes quickly. What’s more, it’s what smokers suffer all their smoking lives. Non-smokers do not suffer it. You are a non-smoker and so you’ll soon be free of it forever.

few days? i gave it months. chest bumped, i felt dizzy, could not concentrate on complex things, stress situations have been even more stressful.

4) If you associate a cigarette with a coffee, tea, drink or break, have your coffee, tea, drink or break and at that moment, instead of thinking: “I can’t have a cigarette now”, simply think: “Isn’t it great: I can enjoy this moment without having to choke myself to death”.

i didn't only associated with lots of drinks, i even associated places where i used to smoke, a lot of them, from my chair to balcony to our bar to pretty much everywhere  i enjoyed smoking, can't recall ever saying that i choke myself to death so positive thinking is useless for me.

5) Do not try to avoid smoking situations or opt out of life. Go out and enjoy social occasions right from the start and do not envy smokers, pity them. Realise that they will be envying you because every single one of them will be wishing they could be like you: free from the whole filthy nightmare. No smoker wants to see their children start smoking which means they wish they hadn’t started themselves. Remember it’s not you who are being deprived but those poor smokers. They’re being deprived of their health, energy, money, peace of mind, confidence, courage, self-respect and freedom. If you’re offered a cigarette, just say: “No thanks – I don’t smoke”, rather than start a long conversation about how long it has been since you stopped.

yeah, exactly like i did. have gone to our local bar to play slots and have a word where everyone is smoking. beside i felt bullets into chest from factors like the place where i smoked loads of packs, the smoke inside, the look at others doing it, per total it was worse than the only surgical intervention i had at 20 yo in which the multiple injected painkillers to local area had absolutely no effect and i felt the entire thing. i've felt my dick ripped off from pulling out the skin with some medieval method not how i was informed by research then sewing it. it was circumcision, i always wanted to have that shape i saw in clips, and was with the cost of the most acute pain ever. even more took a hospital bacteria which inflated my eyes at that time because of poor medical system. but you know what, the first moment i entered the bar as a non-smoker was worse!
i will not copy every point on that site, long story short if the sensations didnt go away for 3 months, which felt eternally, i'm not ready to give 3 months+ once again. the disadvantages of trying to break the enslavement are too many and not worth the terror. i do sport activities and smoke, how about this.

It has been 2 years as of Feb 1st for me, and I can tell you that there are tremendous rewards just mere days and weeks away. The taste of the food comes back with a vengeance, and running doesn't plain out hurt anymore to name a couple...lol Overall I would say that quitting, for me, was a real life game changer. Countless benefits. Keep up the good work it will only get easier.

Agree with Bruinsdude. Waking up in the morning feels so much better! You may have to abstain from coffee, alcohol and gambling,:eek2::eek2::eek2:
But, you gotta do what you gotta do. Trust me -- you will be so much happier once you are off this godforsaken vice. I have never looked back even though I still enjoy the smell of cigs.

December 6th 2015 at 6:30 am made it exactly ONE year I have not touched a cigarette. I had been smoking for 62 years LoL Yea I am a good 78! I had stopped for about 6 months long time ago.

I havent finished reading all the posts in this thread BUT I am dying to just take one good drag! Has anyone done that and continue the non smoking? THERE is one person in the house whO smokes and my neighbors both smoke I go there and several butts are outside so very easy for me to take ONE BIG DRAG
I am fantasizing about a WW2 movie with John Wayne when he was in the fox hole and got a cigarette! after he took one long drag he sighed "AHHH AMERICAN"

I once stopped for two years. But the principle of just the one drag didn't work for me. That one drag turned into one cigarette for the day and before I knew it back to smoking again.....

Good for OP, my hubby has been trying to stop smoking as well, so far it's not going too well, but he's trying, so I'll give him that. And you know what they say, failing and trying is trying and succeeding.

Thanks for all advice and support everyone.

Now that Im not sick its definitely very tough. Chewing alot of gum and eating mints

Go buy a box of leftover dollar store candy canes - last ya a couple hrs and will mimic the 'draw' motion of smoking..

honestly wouldnt hurt to have a post it on the fridge like 'Are you REALLY hungry, or just craving?'

and 3 with my son about same ages Last one is no6 REMEMBER it been 2 years now
I am just hoping to see them off to college They are all beautiful and gifted academically( like their grand dad) lol However, my kids tells me I will die soon for quitting since I have been at it so long... OHHH present BENEFITS?

I breathe much easier now
I walk 2 miles each morning and its much easier
No more sneaking outside fr a smoke esp when its cold I remember being in Toronto when it was below freezing and being outside in garage taking a quick drag! How stupid can one be?
Good Luck to your hubby It can be DONE!!

I think I got this thing down. I can thank being sick to this.

I was healing for 2 days after being sick for like 10. Feeling good. Craving cigs really bad for 2-3 nights straight especially after dinner. But then I got round two of this goshdarn cold. Sore throat, body aches, cant sleep, headaches, cough. BLEH!

I guess this is a blessing in disguise being sick. But god I feel awful and pretty high off all the cold medicine.

15 days smoke free

lool. Yeah smoking in winter in Canada sucks big time. I live about 40 minutes north of Toronto and I can say with certainty I do not miss freezing my butt off just to have a smoke.

I havent had a chance to see if there has been any benefits because ive been knocked on my ass with this damn cold for so long. I think 2-3 days more and this cold will be gone. And once Im better, im taking a break from gambling. Ive been on a really good run lately so why not stop when im ahead right? No but really..Once im better im going to do a bunch of different things. Positive things. Walking more, working out more, eating better and spending time with friends and family. Its not like a neglect that kind of stuff but I like to make sure to put gambling on hold a few times a year and focus on other things. Plus I really want to be doing stuff where I feel the benefits of not smoking/being healthier.

And Ive been stuck in my bed for the better part of 3 weeks. Really tired of that scene!!

Hi guys, I made it! Im officially a non smoker. As I posted a couple times, I was blessed with a bad cold to really help me along the way, so I got lucky.

I want to thank everyone in this thread for their support. Ive talked to Mark about me forfeiting the $200 incentive and instead am paying it forward to 4 members here.

Sadly I could only choose 4 members who will split my $200.

I wrote peoples name from this thread on paper and drew it out of a hat.

Big thanks to Mark and the members who supported me. And if you hit anything post a screenshot in the thread :D

Yes very well done! and very generous to 'donate' your prize also :)

I have tried and failed a few times, best attempt was a few years back, 6 months 'Cold Turkey' no patches, NRT, nothing!!

One beer too many the one night and back on 20 a day :(

Think when my stress levels subside I'll try again, like Tirilej I will go for 29th but maybe February

Well Done

Wow, thanks:thumbsup: but why? You surely deserved it yourself.

Please stay strong with being a non smoker because I'm planning to stop the 29th March:)

There are a couple reasons. I feel like it wasnt really a big challenge because I was very sick for most of it. I can seriously only recall 4-6 really tough instances where I wanted one bad.

And the members here really kept me from smoking. If it wasnt for the people in here, I wouldnt have had a reason to not have a smoke or two which would have led me to probably starting again.

I can say Im noticing some withdraw issues. I feel like a stinging feeling in my chest. Like it doesnt hurt but its like when you breathe really cold air in, your lungs hurt. I think my body is cleaning its lungs

And when you guys go to quit smoking, make a thread like I did. It will help. Lots of good people here to encourage you.

Enjoy your $50 guys. Me giving up my $200 for you guys was a no brainer. Im gonna save myself alot of money over the next years and probably health issues. Win, win for all of us.

Hi guys, I made it! Im officially a non smoker.

Congrats lockinlove, that is a really big step and the timescale you have achieved this over is significant. What you have done so far is extremely hard and you should be proud of yourself .

There will be many testing moments yet to come, just remind yourself of the health benefits and the money saved when they do.

Hey that is amazing! You did not have to do that lil - I really appreciate it. I am going to try and run it up to donate to a charity and will document progress on here :D

Big thanks to Mark and the members who supported me. And if you hit anything post a screenshot in the thread :D

I agree thanks to Mark - and also thanks again to you lil. I will make a thread and keep you updated. I will either cash out £1000 and donate it to charity or 32red will have it back hehe - fingers crossed!

Cheers, mucho appreciated.
But moreso - for kicking the nasty habit.
I really should be next on that chopping block to quit (though, honestly, right now, it's what keeps me sane and from snuffing the 4 monsters :P )

Well done!
edit - d'oh, 10 minutes of play, but appreciated nonetheless.....the real reward I suppose is you quit anyway ;)

Congratz lockinlove and I am very happy you made it this far!!

And you shouldn't have to split your incentive but thanks nevertheless! :):)
Just Pm'ed Mark.
Will try and make the best out of that bonus. :-)

Thanks to Mark too.
