Global Poker Security Flaw: KYC docs held on unsecure site

We were pretty shocked when this was brought to our attention as well. We have reported on lots of issues with Global Poker.

In fact, just a week ago they forced a bunch of players to "beta test" a new payment method other than the sole payment processor they had before, which was PayPal. Turns out that they were telling lies the whole time. It seems that they have now dropped PayPal and instead only offer this new method, WorldPay. And big surprise, they are forcing players to send in even more KYC docs, hassling them further... and then this story breaks about them not securely holding customer bank statments, personal IDs, and other know your customer documents!

Nuts!

We need to spread the word about Global Poker. To that end, we thank you for making this post and we hope that other webmasters will run with the story, it will spread to other forums, etc.

WorldPay is used as a payments processor for most online casinos and sports books..

I am familiar with it. However, consider the perspective of the customer. The customer in the US market who wants PayPal. Who uses PayPal all the time to buy things online. Who has used PayPal for over a decade.

Suddenly that familiar method is ripped away and they are:

1) Lied to about it during testing phase
2) Forced to use a different provider
3) Forced to provide new KYC docs
4) Forced to provide sensitive banking information that they did not have to provide before
5) Lose the convenience and familiarity with PayPal
6) Then come to find out that Global Poker has been leaking personal and private information online for over a year!

It is bad news.

Also keep in mind that WoldPay is not a common provider in the United States. It is very unfamiliar and foreign to users. There is no existing trust like there is with PayPal.

Just to say, Worldpay is the number one merchant in the US, so saying its not common isn't right. Even before the merger at the start of the year, they were 11th, so not as though they were unheard of.

Couldn't find a single affiliate, webmaster, or poker player in the online community at 2+2, reddit, and among my extensive contacts who has heard of them being used in American markets for gambling purposes. Therefore, I must take issue with your statements :)

You didn't say gambling only, and I don't know about that, but they do process over $1 trillion in the US alone, so I find it strange no one has ever used them. :)

I hope CM doesn't mind me posting a link to another forum, but, it seems that many gambling affiliates don't know who the hell WorldPay is either:

I don't really see anything in there saying people don't know who they are, they don't know where payments came from that were processed by worldpay, which considering how many affiliate programs are clearly using them, I find it hard to believe no one has ever heard of them.

Similarly there is a thread on AGD titled "WorldPay?" where again, an affiliate has no clue what they are or where a recent payment came from. And my point is, they aren't as well known, at least in my circles of the gambling world, as you espouse :)
