Geo-blocked, how to affiliate?

Since many European casinos are now geo-blocking UK hostnames and IPs if they don't hold a UKGC licence, how do affiliates register for an account / check commission if you can't access their website?

Or maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree and they don't accept UK affiliates anymore even if they have websites aimed at foreign markets!

All Affiliate sites should work fine Nicole. I don;t have problems with any login and I have over 50 different :) Also sites that does not have UKGC.

Yeah you will have problem with the casinos which does not have UKGC and then affiliate program only pay into the casino account. That would be a problem there. But only way is to just use HOLA and use Chrome that is what I do

As above, no problem accessing all affy sites and use a VPN for checking out the casino websites.
(HOLA doesn't work for ALL the ones I need - but other more sophisticated VPN's are available).

But I'm a little confused, why are you asking this, when you give your location as Malta?

Ahh I have just noticed Nicola has just changed her job seems she is a Fraud specialist now working for some UKGC and MGA casino brands.

So be careful hehe :p

I guess she has moved from London to Malta as well. Care to share info Nicola? Sounds interesting and bet that is a nicely paid job as well? :)

Thanks for the replies. I'm still alternating between London and Malta, thanks to Ryanair :D

Past couple of weeks I've been exchanging private messages on here with affiliates about different Northern Europe markets (Finland, Norway etc) and being blocked from even accessing the sites was a pain.

So in theory, if I can find the subdomain of the affiliate program they should work on any IP? Using a VPN would basically be against what I work for these days!

Everything on course for a late February launch of new affiliate sites. Just awaiting approval from GamCare and Responsible Gambling Trust on partnerships.

As previously mentioned, responsible gaming will play a key part of any affiliate program I am apart of.

The problem is really down to the affiliate programs to sort out, it should not be a case of affiliates having to bend the rules by debating the morality of using VPNs or other tools purely in order to stick to the terms, conditions, and procedures of their affiliate contract.

The old shortcut of paying commission into a casino account can lead to problems with the tax position of affiliates as it's effectively mixing taxable earnings with gambling winnings, and it makes tax fraud very easy indeed because upon withdrawal of the commission it looks like withdrawal of gambling winnings, and it is fully reliant on the affiliate being honest, because the tax office can't check even from accessing the affiliate's bank statement.

The need to use subdomains is no better as it still requires affiliates to bend the rules in order to reach a subdomain hidden behind geo-blocking.

Last but not least, an affiliate cannot view the casino website nor check the marketing to players on that site, nor the players' terms and conditions. This makes it hard for an affiliate to market responsibly as they have to take the programs word for it as to what the terms for players are, and how the website markets to them. Using a VPN is probably the ONLY way a responsible affiliate can check out what they are promoting.

The same problem faced US based affiliates post 2006, and it seems the programs didn't give a damn, and pretty soon US affiliates were pushed out by the programs from even running their business of marketing the casinos in countries they still operated. US affiliates were being told that no commissions could be paid to anyone resident in the US, and the same fate may soon face UK based affiliates who market non UKGC licenced casinos to the rest of the EU. Like the US affiliates, they may be told they have to relocate their business to a country where players are also accepted, however this would be a good deal easier for EU affiliates than it was for US ones due to EU freedom of movement and labour rules.

Try to change to Google DNS. This helped me to visit blocked casino websites.

Info you can find here: hxxps://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

@Nicola - Is it that cold in Malta? Parka and all? :p

Anyway, if you do come across a blocked affiliate site, it would be a good thing to pop them an email to tell them that they are. It may be something that has been done unintentionally by their web developers, and they should know about it. Casinos I can understand - marketing sites, not so much.

Unless of course you are living in the States and want to advertise for Ladbrokes. :D

I only use a VPN to VIEW the casino's websites - not to actually play there.
That CAN'T be legal in any shape or form... unless the world has gone totally mad! :p
