General Election 2019 thread

You do realise that Labour have privatised just as much of the NHS as the Tories, right? The whole 'Labour want to save the NHS, the Tories want to destroy it' ideology is a complete myth which is peddled by those on the left.

The NHS is a bottomless money pit, it is NOT that its underfunded, more that the money that is pumped into it is wasted, there is no standardisation of procurement and there is a layer of pen pushing leeches taking a 6 figure salary.

If you want Brexit to happen, you have to vote Conservative.
"If you want Brexit to happen, you have to vote Conservative." FUCK brexit this is a GE based on so much more than being in the EU or NOT I will never vote for scum who literately have blood on there hands due to cuts, How anyone can vote for conservatives when 500k+ people are using food banks where UC is crippling family when OAP can not afford to turn the heating on and freeze to death, But as long as we leave the EU who cares !!

ABC Anything But Corbyn. The tosspot is a dangerous neo-Marxist, the worst kind of hypocrite pretending to be one of the working class and sympathetic to their cause while being born into privilege then establishing himself as an Islington Trendy. He wants to bankrupt us by borrowing tens of billions we don't have nationalizing industries, remove our nuclear deterrent (putting tens of thousands of his fellow workers on the dole in the process) at the same time no doubt sucking up to every enemy of the UK. Most of his own party don't like him now, they know he's a nasty, anti semitic agitator, a throwback to the failed Trots and socialists of the 1970's.

The (hypothetical) costs of Brexit will be dwarfed by the costs of this fool's policies.

I think tactical voting will play a big part in the next election, the group 'Best For Britain' will be publishing a load of data today to help people choose how to vote tactically to keep the Tories out in hundreds of seats across the UK.

There's also been a huge surge in 18-34 year olds registering to vote, who are very much Labour/Lib voters in the main.

I'm not making any predictions, but it's going to be interesting.

Here's a WhatsApp chat with a chum of mine, he's never voted Labour in his life but he will do it if it helps stop Johnson. (He earns £125K+ per year so Labour's tax plans will directly hit him in the pocket, but he thinks it's more important to keep the Tories out.)

TBH I think right wingers know this is pretty much their last chance to get their Brexit, because the up and coming generations will have fuck all to do with it, support for Brexit and indeed the Tories is literally dying of old age.

You have got to love all these remainers voting tactically, the hypocrites who accused leave voters of being underhanded and playing dirty tricks are voting for someone they don't want.

Just shows the level of stupidity your average remainer has.

I think you're misunderstanding the meaning of the word 'tactical'.

Characterised by skilful tactics or adroit manoeuvring or procedure: tactical movements. of or relating to a manoeuvre or plan of action designed as an expedient toward gaining a desired end or temporary advantage.

Tactical - voting for someone you don't want to be your MP just so you can put one over on the opposition. Result 5 years of an MP you do not want and does not represent your views.

I think that sums up tactical to remainers.

The priority is keeping the Tories and Johnson out of No 10, Labour in government or a Labour/Lib/SNP coalition would be fine.

My mate will pay a big wallop of extra tax under a Labour government, he's prepared to take that hit to keep the Tories out, it's not about the money.

so every election Mr & Mrs Chopley & their friend vote for someone they do not want to be their MP just to stop a Tory government, so we never actually get a government anyone wants under Chopley rules.

I can't be the only one seeing a problem with this tactic.

How magnanimous of him. I understand it though, I'm prepared, like millions of others, to possibly take a hit via Brexit if it gets us out of the E-USSR's clutches.

I think those who would be happy with the above (unworkable) 3-way coalition you describe are severely deluded. So the price would be a second IndyRef. Scotland leaves, those Scottish MP's won't sit in Westminster afterwards. So even if this nightmare scenario of senile Corbyn the Marxist, Brexit denier Swindleson and wee Jimmy Krankie came to pass, they would end up as a minority govt. again, so we are back to square one. Then you'll have permanent Tory administrations as England returns an average of 300+ Con MP's each election. Of course, that's assuming they don't fall out first when Labour refuses the IndyRef, then won't revoke Article 50 and then gappy will ride off into the sunset in a strop.

I assume your suggestion is tongue-in-cheek about this coalition, as only those needing certifying would ever want it, or be insane enough to believe it'd work.

To be honest if Scotland had voted to leave in 2014 they would be in the situation we are now, trying to get into the EU rather than out, having to put up a border with England and NI, trying to untangle 300 years of laws etc just a shame they voted to stay.

Alongside this new election I would give the folk of Scotland another referendum for their independence. If they voted to leave then whatever the financial effect of leaving the EU without a deal may be will be offset by the huge savings we make by not having to fund Scotland. I am fed up of the Scots not appreciating our help

I'm a floating voter. I simply dont understand anyone who refuses to change their mind and is so religious in their blind love for a party that it doesnt matter how bad things are, they would never change their vote.

Labour are a complete farce under Corbyn and Abbott and they will destroy the country faster than the Tories. I don't trust the Tories not to fuck the NHS.

So I guess this time I have to vote Lib Dem..

I am in the same boat as you regarding having no faith in any one party. However, voting Lib Dem is voting to stay in the EU. The Lib Dem's are a swinging brick of a party.

Well, I dont want Brexit so they suit me.
But if we are going to leave then let's just get on with it.

I think we will have another hung parliament and end up with a second referendum.

I live in a ward where the Labour MP is almost 99% likely to win my dilemma is do I vote Brexit party as they're the only party who could even come close to Dame Rosie or do I vote Conservative knowing they can't win a one person fight in this town but knowing Boris needs the votes.

Very possibly unless we see Farage getting into bed with Dorris :eek2:

Could be a lot of tactical voting... as long as Labour don't win I'll be happy, otherwise I will lose my home through their crazy taxation of people who work hard and earn reasonable salaries...

I live in a very staunch Labour voting area and I travel around the North East a lot. I know very many voters who are quite prepared to switch to the Brexit Party if it meant that we get to leave the EU. So many folk are fed up with self serving politicians

Those who are thinking of voting labour either have very short memories or were not around in the 70,s
The only difference between them and the Tories is that Labour will tax you to the eyeballs, waste it on
idealistic crap instead of fixing the real problems, anyone who thinks they are on the side of the working man
Is totally deluded.Neither party is interested in needs of the country, never have been, they are all
self serving bastards.
Got no idea who I am going vote for yet, probably whoever has the best chance of getting Brexit sorted
If there is anyone who can.

Labour's tax plans are 45% on £80K-£123K and 50% over £123K. (This is up from the current rates of 40% on £50K to £150K, and 45% on over £150K.)

So you must:

a) Be doing pretty well for yourself to start with and
b) Be pretty close to the edge on your finances if those changes to the tax system will cause you to 'lose your home'.

Also, a lot of folks would consider, say, £70K to be pretty highly paid. (Nurses start at around £24K, for example.)

Corbyn's goons have already heckled Sky News and other reporters questioning his leadership when pointing out he has the lowest rating of an opposition leader in decades.

@ChopleyIOM - any government that takes 50% or more of somebody's wealth, no matter where the bracket starts, is a kleptocracy. Read about the 1970's, when Healey was chancellor and there was super tax of 90%. "Tax 'em till they squeal" was one of his famous remarks. That's why we had the Great Brain Drain, our most talented scientists and inventors and businessmen pissed-off abroad as fast as BA could fill the planes. Led Zeppelin, the Stones etc. lived as tax exiles, not investing or spending their money in the UK.

Perhaps you should take heed of Ken Clarke, everyone's favourite soft Tory from when he was chancellor, and talked about the law of diminishing returns when taxes are hiked. When they reduced the top band to 45% the government actually INCREASED revenues! People won't leave the UK, avoid taxes or dodge them when they are reasonable. A lesson frothing-at-the-mouth loony socialists like Corbyn seems to have forgotten.

You can all spew out the Marxist social-justice claptrap like Corbyn, but few of them seem to understand the economically devastating effects it has always had.

P.S. - Chopley, one who lives in an offshore tax haven...pmsl

Voting Brexit party will just split the leave vote. Anyone who wants Brexit HAS to vote for Boris. The only reason we didn't leave today is because the remainer MPs made it illegal to leave without a deal then refused to vote through a deal when presented.

If the remainers are going to vote tactical, leavers have to do the same.

I can tell you know for certain Labour will have the largest loss of seats of any major party in history this election. The move hard left doesn’t resonate with anyone even more, not even young people.

Only worry for the Tories is the Brexit Party splitting the vote but already Nigel Farage has conceeded he wont challenge Tory seats in any marginals. Look at the odds on a Tory victory - pretty much evens. Labour stand with most bookmakers at 22/1 :laugh::laugh:

I belive that Farage is planning not to field any candidates against Conservative Eurosceptics. Instead he will concentrate on winnable seats in remainers constituancies

Reading all your posts from the last few hours, it doesn't look like you will be finding that EXIT door anytime soon.

More elections, another referendum, more extensions - which will it be? View attachment 116604
I really believe that remainers will get a bloody nose and Johnson will have his majority

So you agree... I should lose 5% of my wages because I "am doing pretty well for myself". So basically, you want to penalise my success. What a lovely guy you are...

I would also suggest that we tax big wins at 50% because, hey, you're doing well for yourself. Right?

Time will tell. Let's just hope that the majority will be finally capable to make a decision. It didn't help much over the last few years to have the majority in parliament. From what I followed, the Tories had a solid majority and squandered it away with more elections, extensions, deals/no deals etc etc. Will that help this time?

Looking at the chaos from the last three years, an outsider could get the impression that you all don't really want to leave. :D

Tories are cutback-ey, austerity asswipes and hate the poor but I understand some of their deeds, given something called the Worldwide Financial Crash of the time. I would still rather trust them to run our country from a financial point of view over Labour, any day of the week.......

Labour ARE NOT deluded and away with the fairies, whoever would say such a thing!

Between the aforementioned t'Labour traits of old, such as severe financial incompetency and Cloud Cuckoo Land policies, and Dianne Abbott's excellent 'Let illegals in directly' vision (she not heard of border patrols/ customs then), Corbyn & cohorts would set us back even further than we ever thought possible.

Maybe they can bribe students to vote by offering them PS4s, or free holidays to Ibiza. Hell, maybe we'll see Corbyn get down with the kids at Glastonbury again, wearing a backward baseball cap!

It seems some are too easily duped by Labour's 'everyman' vision, we had already had that with Blair. Whatever benefits Labour provide will be short-term and based on borrowing money that would take us decades to pay back.

But it's ok, gotta get those evil tyrannical Tories out!

The Tories are not perfect, but they do reward hard work and aspiration.
Labour will spend money like it's going out of fashion, and then where will they get it from? Me, probably...
I already pay an enormous amount of tax and NI - and yet ChopleyIOM thinks it's fair i pay more just because Chardonnay wants more dole for her big TV, Sky, 20 Fags a day and 5 kids?

I'm with you, Goaty mate :)

Wait until you see the Tory majority after the election. Look at who Boris picked for his cabinet - there will effectively be a rightwing legislative machine for the next decade. About time coming too.

Also Bercow off today and the Tory wets/Rebels disposed of (loads of them have confirmed they arn’t even standing at the next election), Brexit will be a certainty, and on our terms too.

Really. Per head the Scots more capital into the UK as a whole.

John bercow complains to press standards after Daily Mirror claims he asked for a £1m to appear on im a celebrity
He is said to be furious with the lies being said about him.

Aww the poor odious man i feel so sorry for him...not

Gotta hand it to that opportunist populist Farage, he sure knows when to stoke that fire!

Also, gotta hand it Bercow, believing he's the nation's talking point and somehow a celebrity of sorts. He sure knows when to stoke that fire!

Except with Bercow he's a sad hanger-on trying to extort money out of a crap 'show' that nobody watches anymore
