Not much to this but interesting nonetheless. This was released with little fanfare on Oct. 16. See section in red if the rest fails to capture your interest.

Presidential Contender Mike Huckabee Shows Leadership Against Gambling Industry

For Immediate Release: Contact: Dr. Guy C. Clark, Chairman
October 16, 2007 (505) 259-7541 This email is not visible to you.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - National Coalition Against Gambling Expansion (NCAGE) Chairman Guy Clark today publicly commended presidential contender Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, for his willingness to take a strong leadership role on gambling issues.

While gambling expansion continues to dominate public debate in many state capitols across the country, Clark said many politicians are politically fearful of tackling the issue of gambling expansion at the federal level. In fact, Huckabee was the only candidate from either party to respond to NCAGEs questionnaire

Public health has never been a populist issue and when gambling promoters have been buying the favor of community, state and national leaders, its rare to find a candidate willing to stand up to that kind of corrupting power, Clark said. Were grateful for Huckabee and his courage.

Huckabee pledged to veto legislation that would expand Internet gambling as well as pledged to reinstate federal regulation of Indian casinos and curtail the proliferation of off-reservation casinos.

The questionnaire, distributed to all of the candidates in July, asked the would-be Presidents three questions:

    1) Last year, Congress voted overwhelming to criminalize most forms of Internet gambling. This year some members of Congress are promoting legislation to legalize Internet gambling. If such legislation passed, would you veto it?

    2) Right now there are scores of tribes trying to get BIA permission to build off-reservation casinos many miles from their reservations. As president, would you instruct your Secretary of Interior to reject these efforts?

    3) Last year the DC Circuit Federal Court ruled that the federal government had no authority to regulate tribal casino gambling. Most states have either very limited or no regulation of tribal casino gambling. As president would you take action to help reinstate federal regulation of tribal gambling?

Governor Huckabee answered yes to all three questions.

Formed in 1994, NCAGE is the political action arm of the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling (NCALG) which compiles information on the adverse personal, social, economic and public health impacts of gambling and disseminates it to citizens and policy-makers at the local, state and national levels." It is the only national organized dedicated entirely to restricting the growth of legalized gambling in America. NCAGE does not endorse political candidates.

:lolup: I had to come get my laughs in... Your right Lojo.... he is clean. He practices what he preaches.. I was going to say he's a non-issue... but he has suprised a lot of people. NO ONE thought he had a chance even getting this far.. Even though.... he's far gone right wing - he's a good man - an honest man... but IMO he won't even be listed for the VP spot...

I wouldn't vote for him, but he is the only republican candidate that should be able to look at himself in a mirror. No dirt that I know of, walks the walk he talks... steady-eddie.
