Is this really from Casinomeister?

Sorry if i have posted this in the wrong area first off.

I got this email today claiming to be from Bryan and just wanted to know if anyone else received it and if it was real or just someone trying to get my info because when i clicked on the link to confirm, it then asked me for a bunch more information.

And what does this mean?

Is it genuine or am i just being over cautious with my email again?

I got the e-mail too and was thinking the same thing.
I clicked the link, but I didn't fill out the form.

Best way to get Bryan's attention to something quickly is to "Report Post":

Attach Removed (Old not found)

I've just done that here so he should see it soon.

I got the same email too. Meister Mail does come from "topica" but the "mailed-by" is slightly different.

This email: mailed-by b.topica.com

Meister Mail: mailed-by casinomeister.b.topica.com

Either way it seems to require quite a bit of personal information...

Same thing..

This is a confirmation mail sent out to subscribers of our newsletter. Yes, it's legit - and thanks for asking :D

I looked at the required fields and it's a bit too much. I used to use the addresses to mail Christmas cards years ago, but that's a bit overwhelming.

So for the Meister Mail, all that is required is name, email, gender, age and country.

Thanks Bryan. I guess I shouldn't have been so uptight about filling the whole thing out, it's no more than what is required when signing up at a casino and I've signed up at a few dodgy places before so I'm sure all my info is out there already.

Clicking a link in an email always rings the alarm bells, especially when it is a "funny" link that bears no relation to the site supposedly requesting the information.

The ONLY thing that separates this from the average phishing attempt is your command of the English language, which is usually one way to spot a phishing or spam email.

Security advice is to ALWAYS avoid clicking on a link in an email; instead type the URL into the browser, and log in to what you can be pretty certain is the REAL site, and enter/check/update your profile there.

This "update your profile" is a pretty common way to conduct phishing, along with "scare" consequenses that would follow for ignoring the request. It is possible that many CM subscribers are deleting this in the belief it is phishing, and many spam filters may also be preventing this from getting through.

I have NOT received this email, and I don't believe I have EVER seen any such request from CM apart from the INITIAL one when I first joined, or subscribed to something.

You're not listed as a subscriber - which I find a little odd. You've been missing out on years worth of reviews, commentaries, conference reports, jokes, meanderings, and general jovial jocularities.

I HAVENT GOT IT YET
You confirmed on November 05, 2008 - that's why. :p

I actually DO get the Meistermail, so I AM a subscriber. It seems something is up with your system, and it is sending the mails to people who are NOT listed as subscribers as far as it is concerned.

I subscribed long ago, so maybe this has been "lost" somewhere in the current system, but I am still on the mailing list, so have never seen the need to resubscribe, and have never seen any repeat confirmation email.

Just got this in my inbox from Bryan Bailey" <casinomeister@topica.email-publisher.com

Should have search forum before posting :( sorry about that, already found my answer. Admins, please delete this post, if possible

I found your account. It was under your other email address (non-vinylman). You confirmed your subscription October 14, 2004.

I can't send out emails to people that haven't subscribed. There is nothing up with the system - there are just a lot of people who have never confirmed their subscription that's all, and they're the ones who are receiving the email.

Out of the 4500 subscribers, 1370 have not confirmed their subscription yet. I'm just trying to clean house that's all.

So if you do not get an email confirmation does that me you already confirmed your subscription before?

pevangel
That is correct. Also, there is a link at the bottom of each newsletter that allows you to confirm or update your profile. I can also check this for you if you forward me the email you've subscribed with. :D
