I have just spotted a new/updated T&C which comes into effect from 1st October 2016 at this casino and wouldn't be surprised if adopted at others as well. I have even surprised myself by reading T&C's!!!!!

4.5. Dormant Accounts:

4.5.1. Starting 1 October 2016, if you are a UK resident and you have not logged in to your Player Account for six (6) consecutive months, then your Player Account will be considered as "dormant account" and We will charge a monthly maintenance fee that will be deducted from the balance of your account. Such fee being the higher of: (a) ten (10) percent of the then current balance of the account; or (b) GBP 5, until the balance of the account reaches zero.

4.5.2 Prior to 1 October 2016, if you are a UK resident and you have not logged in to your Player Account for twelve (12) consecutive months, then your Player Account will be considered as "dormant account" and We will charge a monthly maintenance fee that will be deducted from the balance of your account. Such fee being EUR 5 or equivalent, until the balance of the account reaches zero.

4.5.3 If you are a non-UK resident and have not logged in to Your Player Account for twelve (12) consecutive months then your Player Account will be considered a "dormant account" and We will charge a 5€ monthly maintenance fee on the balance of such dormant account. If your Player Account remains dormant for more than thirty (30) months, We will remit Your Player Account balance (if any) to You, after deducting the necessary fees. If Your current location is unknown or You have failed to provide up to date means of making such remittance, the remaining funds (if any) shall be transferred to the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA).

I can see the necessity of maintaining an active account base, but surely if there is a dormant account with cash sat there, then surely they can just return it to the original payment method instead of swiping it for themselves? What if some old biddy has a heart attack when they win big, snuffs it and the family don't know about their gambling account? Goodbye inheritance as the casino will now swipe it ...... !

Don't be silly Richy, that would mean casinos actually being helpful, and they'd have hundreds of people's accounts to get through that may have long forgotten they've even registered there! There would be many surprised punters for sure, scratching their heads as to why a casino has just paid them £7 or something.

I for one embrace this change as I must have over 40 accounts, and the sooner a lot of the dormant ones are killed off the better. Only use about three as it is!

Personally, I think this is BS, but many if not most casinos have this in place so we are pretty much stuck with it. I try to wrap my head around what costs the casino has to actually go through to harbor an inactive account. Unless there are some fees that the casino needs to cover for maintenance, taxes, or what-not, it's just there to make sure you'll go back and make the account active by depositing. If that is the case, it's a marketing ploy that is bullshit.

It would be nice for a casino rep to chime in and explain why they have these "dormant" account fees.

Couldn't agree with you more.

I've taken the hard line of moving any operator I find with a Predatory dormancy to Not Recommended status after a couple of complaints where I've found operators deducting 3-4 figure balances over literally a couple of days over the 'dormancy limit'. So my stance is between a 5 and 25 credit per month. Any voiding of balance or % based term is to my mind Predatory. It's not costing them that much to "maintain" a dormant account and this just becomes and excuse to seize balance.

I have had many emails warning me of this impending " fining " of funds. It always gets me scrambling to log in to see how much I have sat there.
"Account £0.03"
Fill ya boots with that then  :D

One question which springs to mind is:

Punter has various accounts at casino sites, say within the Everymatrix group, all with balances on. He has a bad spell at one casino and knee jerk reaction spurs him to SE for a year or two at that one site. EM then apply the SE to all accounts in the group, therefore he doesn't have access to them to make withdrawals, etc. Would these be seen as 'dormant' accounts and deductions made accordingly after 6 months?

I agree that it must be annoying for the casino having loads of accounts with pennies in and not being used, but surely if balance is say more than £20, they simply return it to the last deposit method?
