Okay I wasn’t quite sure of the best section to post this but settled for this one.

It’s not a quit gambling solution as such, more a sort of tool to help you control your gambling and have more awareness of how much you are spending.

It’s a very simple idea that can be used to help quit gambling or simply cut down. You can decide for yourself what measures to put in place.

All you need is a money box or some device that achieves the same purpose. If you don’t trust yourself, lock it and give the key to someone you trust and explain they must not let you have the key until the date you agree.

From this point onwards every time you think of having a slotting session instead of depositing, withdraw the cash and place it in the box. At the end of the month or whatever time scale you set open it up and think to yourself I would probably of lost that.

Think about how good it feels to have set your target, accomplished your goal and reap the reward. Remember this slot has a rtp of 100%.

If you don’t necessarily want to give up slots but maybe control your spending a little more then another ploy would be cut your deposits back by x amount. Place x amount in the box and from the deposits you do make if you manage to withdraw put the winnings in the box.

This is very beneficial because as we know if you just leave it in the bank or wherever, we just redeposit more quickly as it’s considered bonus money. Which normally leads to sending it back in the direction it came from at the double.

I hope this thread will encourage people to control their gambling and help a lot of people who look in but never post. I think it may get a few initial responses then go a bit quiet due to the fact we won’t be opening boxes for a while.

When we do start opening boxes I think it may take off a little more. I have set my date for November the 30th. I will keep you posted on how it’s going. Hope some of you join in and we can share ideas and support each other as we go.

HAPPY SAVING:thumbsup:

My workmate does a kind of similar thing by throwing £2 coins into a wooden box and once a year before Christmas brings it to a bank to exchange these coins for notes. Normally, he ends up having around 2K which is a nice bit of cash for Christmas holidays.

I definitely like your idea! Good also for people like us is a saving account without instant access.

Personally, I'm tired of losing my money. For lost money this year, I could probably buy a casino together with their staff...

On next week I'm going to check this one out

Yes that is also a good option as it helps remove temptation. Unless you make a profit every year, which I doubt very few if any people do then it’s the right way to go.

I used to love slotting but things have changed. It’s become an expensive hobby that’s why I have come to realise I am playing out of habit and not enjoyment.

The headline of this thread could be extended to "DON'T open the box or The best way to hide money from myself" ;)
Yeah I flipped a few thoughts around. Settled for this one hoping it would get people to view it at least. I know it’s a very basic idea but it’s very practical and takes minimal effort to implement.

It would be nice to see some dates being pledged. It’s not a competition but more an incentive to help people quit or reduce their gambling.

Well yesterday was the day I opened the box. It wasn’t actually locked as I trusted myself not to dip into it. I had a rough idea of the total but tried not to keep a running tally to make it more interesting.

My plan was to halve my deposits over the last 6 weeks. As it was I didn’t need much incentive to stay away from slots as the previous 6 weeks had been awful.

I actually only made a handful of deposits over the past 6 weeks and still managed to deposit £600 and lost £400. Just the one withdrawal for £200 which I put in the box.

In total I had just over £800 and I am sure if I hadn’t made a conscious effort that could have disappeared very easily.

It made me realise just how much money I was losing as prior to this I didn’t keep a strict check. Especially when I was winning a bit here and there.

The good thing is I am actually enjoying the odd session now as before I had got to the stage where I was playing for the sake of it.

This month has got off too a decent start as I have made 3 withdrawals today that will all go in the box and not back to the casino.

I hope a few of you had a go at doing similar but somehow I doubt anybody did. Oh well it’s never too late there is always this month.

:D My girlfriend is my financial supervisor - on my payday's morning I transfer 90% of my money into her's bank account.

After a weekend on Monday's morning I feel like I won in a casino!

But sometimes I still do noughty things like telling some bull shit that they forgot to pay me for one day or i need to send or lend £100 to somebody

Just thought I would give an update. I have adapted the original idea to make it more practical as actually withdrawing money from a cash machine and putting it in a box instead of depositing took,

1. A lot of effort as the nearest cash machine is 8 miles away.

2. Meant I had too much cash in the house.

Easily sorted as I have a savings account that doesn’t have a card I can use for anything other than withdrawing cash.

Now what I do, is transfer half of my monthly gambling budget straight in, on payday and half of anything that I withdraw as and when. I have to admit it is very simple but a very effective way of saving money.

It acts a bit like a nicotine patch because once you see that balance growing it makes you more determined to add to it and as most of us here will have “an addictive personality”, what better than to get addicted to saving money. It acts like a patch because after a while you get more of an urge to build your bank account and less urge to deposit.

Personally it works great for me because I still get to do lots of slotting and even if I hit the worst case scenario of no withdrawals and I lose all my deposits, I have still only lost half of what I used to.

Not really sure what this is about... what box are you pertaining to? A box like a piggy bank? Anyways, it does feel good to set a target and achieve more than your expected goal. Also, thanks for your advice. Will definitely control my spending when playing slots. I agree everyone should observe responsible gaming.

Yes, have a box, piggy bank, savings account. Basically something where money can be saved and that allows you not to be able to deposit or access that money easily.

Every time you go to make a deposit put half the deposit in the box and play with the other half. By the same token when you make a withdrawal put half in the savings and play with the other half. It’s a very simple but effective way to save money.
