Deposit limits are a scam?

Thought this was pretty interesting and haven’t come across it before. Set a deposit limit on IVY casino, stupidly I then proceeded to gamble away £2300, contacted customer service to confirm the deposit limit was in place which they did. However apparently there is an affordability limit which their verification team applies separately of £5000 essentially nullifying any personal deposit limit a player sets for themselves. Nothing is listed on their terms and conditions and when asked for them to show me where this was noted they were unable to find it and advised they will send me an email with the information. Obviously I made the decision to gamble the amount I did, however I do find it pretty disappointing that a casino is allowed to set their own limit as they please and not honor a players wish to have a certain limit, surely this is against responsible gambling?

No this was yesterday
Ok, that's not right. There are two potential reasons IMO:

1. The casino uses "net deposit limits" and you were in a profitable position before the deposits were made?
2. The casino has an issue with their deposit limits, in which case they need to address it.

If 1, you might not have any recompense here but if it's 2 I am sure the casino will look into it further for you. You might want to consider a PAB.

So I spoke with the casino and its not Net deposit limits, they said that rather they set their own monthly ’affordability limit’ on all accounts that they decide themselves based on god knows what. And apparently even if you set a deposit limit they go by this affordability limit they preset…which apparently for me is £5000 which is pretty shocking. I am waiting for a response from them to show me where in terms and conditions this is as they claim it is when it is not, and even the customer service rep was unable to locate the information. This is what their terms state.
  1. SAFER GAMBLING
As part of our commitment to Responsible Gaming we provide you with the ability to control and limit your spending, options to temporarily cool off access to your account and an option to self-exclude and close your account for a set period of time. For more details on how you can control your gambling please visit the Responsible Gaming link in the My Account section of the Website.
The facilities to help you control your gambling activity such as: Session Limits, Deposit limits, Cooling-off, Self-Exclusion and Transaction History are each explained below.

Session Limit:

This feature assists you in managing your gameplay session length and is available in the through your Account. When enabling the Session Limit feature you acknowledge that we are not required to close or self-exclude your Account or prevent you from using our Services as a result of you using the feature.

Deposit Limits:

This feature allows you to limit the amount of money that you are able to deposit into your Account on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
Where two deposit limits conflict with each other, the lower limit shall take precedence. For example, if you have a weekly limit of £20 and a monthly limit of £30, and deposit £20 in one week, you will be unable to deposit £20 the next week as this transaction would breach the £30 monthly limit. Deposit limits are calculated on a continually rolling period, rather than resetting to £Nil at the end of any calendar day, week, or month.
We also may, on occasion, set deposit limits to your account to support our Safer Gambling policy and limit your potential losses in any monthly period.

This is all irrelevant IMO. Regardless of their own internal limits if you have requested a lower limit than what they set, it should have been enforced. That's pretty clear in the

Just to quote your post of their own terms:
1. Lower limit always in place.
2. Rolling period.

Your lower limit should have been respected.

And what Mark_Lottomart said.

- A monthly player set limit of £250
- An account affordability limit of £5000 set by the verification department

The thing is that he was able to deposit £2300 despite having a personal £250 limit in place.

It doesn't seem right isn't it?

Plus terms state "where two deposit limits conflict with each other, the lower limit shall take precedence."

To be honest with you, i’m not gunning for a refund as I know what I did and doubt they will give back anything. I just wanted to make them aware as I know how much of a downfall gambling can be for people and this just doesn’t sit right with me.

Gov is the one is making deposit limits, Casinos need to follow their order, years back casinos did not care even if you make £1m deposit a day

I have found the Ceo’s email and dropped him an email whilst also awaiting a response from the casino, will be interesting to see what they come back with, will keep you guys updated!

I would

I would contact the UKGC if what you state is the exact course of events. It's plainly in breach of RG rules.

This is really scam

So received a response from the compliance team today who have stated that actually there is a net deposit limit even though this is not outlined anywhere on their website🙄
