Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

I recall getting screwed last time i was trying to get ahold of your dog.
Also, you would regret not bringing it here.
Lots of forest to roam around in. =)
What happened last time with sox? What silly drunken agreement did I make?

And she would love it, some beautiful places around the world, my pal from Ontario sends me Pics where she lives, It’s unreal.. also didn’t realise how big Ontario was, think dino is from there too

I wonder if I choose not to have a shot how that impacts on the eldery people in my circle if they do, given they're quoting a 90% protection success rate?

I've read, but never fully understood, for vaccines to be effective everyone has to be vaccinated, but then the flu shot isn't mandatory.

Not true, depending on the protection success rate there is a % of people that have to be vaccinated to have "herd" immunity.

The flu shot is like 50-60% effective, it'd take more people to be vaccinated to achieve that than it would be with a 90% effective vaccine.

Let's say as an (albeit extreme) example you live with a friend, you never leave the house because of whatever reason so you would never catch the virus except if your friend would be infected. If your friend is vaccinated and you aren't you are still protected.

Ah never mind that.
I found something that is most worrying.

Was going to show some pics from where i live, figured i might aswell use google maps.
In the beginning you can see some of the woods i roam around in, but something happens when i entered the lil village i live in.

I have lived here for quite some time now, but i have never noticed the change from Summer to Winter.
Weird.

Looks lovely mate, peaceful and quiet.

How far you have to drive to get to the shops for honey and beer?

If its just honey and beer its just a 5 minute walk.
There is a shop that have most things and its located right in the middle of the village.

If you want something other than food, you need to get to Umeå which is a 10-15 minutes drive.
It looks a bit more "out in the sticks" than it is i guess since its fairly close to one of the bigger cities here in västerbotten.
But since its so close to the sea, and surrounded by forest it feels like you are a long way from the city.

Probably the best photographer in this area died today on his 43rd birthday, after getting covid on the 19th October. No underlying health conditions that were known about.
So much for its only old, sick people who die from it as some people keep saying.
It’s not that mate.

It’s just the overwhelming majority are bame, obese or had previous or underlying conditions.

The stats alone speak for themselves regarding the risk to the majority.

Just like all the uni folks that where massively in the papers as ‘positive’ how many ended up out of over a thousand in hospital or spent half a day with the undertaker?.. pretty sure it was none.

I just go by personally what I see and experience, at training and work..

School collecting my daughter etc..

If Covid wasn’t in the news I’d not know about it as it’s not affected a solitary person I know, anyone at work knows or the like.

Past 5 weeks I’m in a group of 12 getting my exams and accreditation’s sorted, that’s just one class..

We have to so called protections in place, the masks, the sanitizers and the like..

We try to social distance but at times it’s impossible and the majority of people in a real working environment just get on with things..

In the training centre which has a turnaround of hundreds a week how many you think got hospital ill of Covid?..

None. Not a solitary person

The only people I know whom actually genuinely had it and where tested are the teacher neighbours of mine, and they are back working without issue.

I know many of you seem to think this is the Black Death etc, but it’s really not...

The measures in place are a nonsense, the overreacting is a joke and now we have playing politics that’s added into the mix..

I don’t even genuinely think about the wuhan wheezer whilst out and about and working, training etc...

It’s only when the old echo chamber effect happens that it crosses my mind.

Again just my opinion, no offence intended and only my own personal experience out and about living with ‘Covid’

I know, and that wasn't directed at you :)
Some people insist it is only 80 year olds with COPD etc who will die from it. It isn't. Such a sad loss, more so considering he was married with 5 kids.

Oh I know mate :-)

Is just my personal view And I’m sure many others are different.

I’m biased without question as Covid affected me and my little girl only in name.

It’s not health wise touched a solitary person or persons close to me or even far removed.

It’s the measure that affected us, financial and work reasoned.

I also don’t think it’s healthy kids cannot see immediate family (if you stick to such draconian measures) or friends and the like.

Again only my thoughts, I’m now back on my feet and exempt from all the rules as I’m a key worker, but I still feel the same as I did before mate.

Weirdly I didn't know a single person, either personally, or friends of friends or anything, who had it first time round, this time I know quite a few.

In my case, it's the opposite - only my brother-in-law, who's around the same age as me, was diagnosed over the phone and had all the symptoms during the 1st wave. Took him about 5 weeks to recover, maybe/probably because he had Pfeiffer disease when he was young. My sister remained immune, oddly enough.

No one else in my immediate surroundings got infected during the 2nd wave, not even the young ones I know who started school or uni.

Hey,
In a shit mood this evening.

Homemade steak pie and roasties and peas.

Horseradish gravy.

TBH, I dont personally know a single soul has contracted covid; though we've nowhere near the numbers
But again, that's why I'm happy to wear the mask - I'm not keen to have a circle of covid infected friends and family

Tonight’s late night visual feast is the over used chilli and rice...

it’s pilau rice as my desired rice I ran out of..

the chilli I made a while back from scratch, just defrosted and added extra heat and paprika.

also covered in cheese and added a small bit of cheese coleslaw:-)

and for serious dipping purposes a crusty baguette, bloody superb with salted butter (lurpak)

drink is Isabelle’s ribena with ice.

Just another example of people thinking the rules dont apply to them

People have had enough of it. I can fully understand if they wish to do as they did, there choice I’m afraid.

let’s face it Covid only comes out after 10, and that’s if your in a group of 6.

it’s cool before that And In schools and blm marches.

it’s also superb in super markets, but not a electrical store, Covid hates electrics...

end the nonsense and get back to reality.

Tell me about it. Time they just let people get on with it.

Got a feeling that come this weekend we will be back to lockdown in Glasgow.

Because cases are not falling. So after pubs etc. all been shut for ages time to close all the shops just before christmas but keep the schools where it is spreading open.

Only chance pubs and shops etc. had was too have a decent Christmas. Now she is set on ending that.

Hospital admissions are not rising. Deaths are not high. Nearly all cases here have are mild at worst. But let's lock every thing down and make sure nothing left by next year.

Honestly if it wasn’t for a favour getting me re trained I’d be fucked.

Offshore is dead and has been since March unless your staff (work directly for shell, BP, total etc)

people are losing so much because of a virus that hasn’t affected a single person I know health wise, all my mates and people at work included.

the few I’ve knew whom had it either didn’t suffer at all or had a mild flu.

it’s the fatties, ethnics and people with past conditions it affects, so those people if they want to should shield.

yes we here the odd one or two out of Millions who are fit who it’s affected but in proportion it’s of no relevance.

wee Kranky btw is more dangerous than the Chinese, pizza and tapas virus.

All so true.

And i hate that woman with a vengeance. Really do.

Yeah times are so hard. I am lucky in a sense.

Never been rich. In crap paid job. Live in a poorer area Glasgow lol.

But least my job is stable. Worked through whole thing. Missus is same she has her job. Oldest boy been working from home throughout it. So quite lucky in sense all of us lost no money.

If any of us had lost job we would be totally screwed as don't have loads in first place.

But watched so many others losing jobs. See the young ones my youngest included with no prospects or chances of finding work soon.

Watching taxi drivers like my brother out all day trying to make few quid. Seeing all the pubs , restaurants shops closing.

Watching the elderly suffer. Most that end up in care homes have limited time left. And to watch them have no family or anything is killing them worse than the virus. As many have stated they are going to be dead soon. They should have the choice to live what little life they have left their way.

Most people i know are getting so depressed. Just nothing to look forward too.

And for what. Latest figure in Scotland is about 1000 in hospital at moment with recently confirmed covid. Notice how it has changed to recently confirmed covid and not as because of covid. As many of these cases are their for other reasons not because covid actually put them there.

Sorry but for a country of over 5 million people 1,000 in hospital at this point when virus has been supposedly out of control for past month is a very small number.

Nowhere near a figure to destroy a country.

Great little corona meal this evening.

slow cooked gammon,
greens in a garlic and herb butter.

some rosemary roast potatoes and a nice thin gravy.

to dip in the gravy a good old baguette, nicely oven warmed and lathered In lurpak full salt butter.

to drink the daughters ribena.

Searched around a bit, and apparently some people have been without their sense of smell for months.
Rip tasty food =(

I had a lovely chicken madras tonight. I have the bog roll in the freezer ready.

Hes had the bloody virus, he will be immune. If thats not the case then we need to stop bothering with developing vaccines, and just get life back to normal tomorrow morning.
I’d be all for tomorrow morning, fine call.

Well in all honesty I’ve been ignoring this nonsense weeks now.

1) There's nothing to stop Johnson catching it again, there are multiple documented cases of reinfection. Antibodies after infection can fade after as little as a few weeks, and certainly after a few months (which is when Johnson last had it).

2) That's one of the great unknowns about the vaccines at the moment, i.e. How long will the immunity last. Obviously we want it to be a long time, but it may well just be a few months also. Certainly the requirement for yearly Covid vaccines is a definitely possibility, and there's no guarantee whatsoever we'll end up with something like a measles vaccine.

Lets hope thats correct, will be great news and will get our evil government to finally stop this economic and social destruction madness before we turn into Venezuela.

Yes but the key word there, and it's right in the link you posted, is 'may'.

May last years means it may also not last years.

It may also cause someone to grow a pork pie on their head, or it may not, it's too early to say for sure.

So basically, yes, Johnson can get infected again (even asymptomatically), and if he does, he can still infect other people.

Despite Mr Johnson having caught Covid-19 in April, which means he will have built immunity to the virus, he still needs to self-isolate. This is because it is not yet known how long people’s immunity to the virus lasts, experts have warned, while the virus itself can mutate, which means any immunity the Prime Minister has built up may not protect him against a new variant of the coronavirus.

Mr Johnson’s isolation eliminates the chance of him being asymptomatic and unknowingly passing the virus onto others.

--------------

“We do not know whether somebody develops immunity and for how long it will actually last,” Jürgen Haas, Head of Infection Medicine at Edinburgh University told i.

“There are quite a few cases where reinfection has been reported”, meaning “protective immunity does not necessarily develop in all cases, and if it does it’s not long lasting”

-------------

One issue that impacts immunity and even the future of a Covid-19 vaccine is the ability for the virus to mutate.

“Another possibility is variants of the virus may mean [Mr Johnson] is not immune to a new variant,” Sheena Cruickshank, Professor in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Manchester told i.

Since the start of the pandemic, researchers have

in samples taken from infected people. Some of these have the potential to evade the body’s immune response, meaning immunity built up from a first infection might not work against a different variant they encounter later on.

Naturally a person could contract the virus again and, even if the symptoms are less severe than the first time they became ill, pass it onto others.

A peer reviewed study released recently has found that immune response is strong for months after catching COVID and they assume a strong immune response may be triggered for years. I'll see if I can find what I was reading.

Symptomatic reinfections are thought to be very rare.

Sorry, it's awaiting peer review...in pre print.

Can be found here. Very encouraging news...

For sure, all I'm calling out is dealer win's breezy assertion that Johnson will be immune because he's had it before, and there's therefore no need for Johnson to isolate because he can't become infected again (asymptomatically or otherwise), and can't then start infected other people again.

Maybe it would have been better for him not to meet a load of MPs in Number 10 whilst not observing social distancing, not wearing a mask, and not meeting those people using online means.

Around 56000 deaths from flu in the last 5 years.
52000 deaths from Covid-19 this year.

How is that no worse than flu?
Exactly . I posted long ago that when the US hit 200,000 that it was more than the cumulative flu deaths for the last 5 years in America, but the flu brigade ignored the facts as usual.
Now at almost 250,000 I reckon that’s more than the last 6/7 years of flu deaths, but sure it’s only mild, not much more than a normal flu.....
