True to form, yes, the interviewer tried to throw "Is the NHS institutionally racist?" line in there

Hold on, here's a couple more :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Few more for good measure :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Even to a left leaning person like myself, the name, David Lammy...ugh

Like the way he says action must be taken to protect Black people from this virus and then says, 'as well as people from all backgrounds' - which one is it Dave? Go on, pick one.

This is the mirror so who knows if its right not it sounds quite logical.
Like you say who know if it’s right or not but having had a “speed read” the plan could have been put together by Noddy!

If that is the basic outline it’s badly flawed for me. One thing that leaps out is secondary schools returning at the end of June.

What is there to gain from that, 3 weeks before the summer holiday? Anyone with any sense would know the learning that will take place in that time will be minimal and mostly forgotten by September. Huge risk for minimal gain

Let’s not forget as I have previously mentioned, the daily death toll falling is not significant and should not be factored into any decision to ease lockdown.

Why? Simply because we have not found a cure, so the daily death toll is pot luck unfortunately. It is the number of “new daily cases” that needs to drop significantly (and it hasn’t) imo before we ease lockdown because this is the number from which potential deaths will occur. Potential deaths on which you cannot place a guaranteed figure!

Yeah, i really don't see the need for speed for the whole June school thing- as above, the Scot Govt don't plan on it being before August, aka, the rest of the school years gone. Only thing i can think of is if they intend on restarting various health services they want to have the Schools open for support for the parents etc...Dunno....

With secondary schools averaging nigh on 1,000 daily attendees you would think a return as soon as that to be considered high risk or at least I would. For the sake of three weeks we could have a much clearer picture by the end of August and be in a much better position to assess the risk.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that as much as we need a plan, it is being put together by people who are uncertain and speculating at best. Therefore is just one death, that could have been avoided justified by taking unnecessary risks?

I saw some paper saying that shutting down schools did almost nothing to contain the spread unless accompanied by a total lockdown (like the one in china).
Ill see if i can find it again, it was on some swedish site about the vrius.

Edit: it was based on that research that sweden kept the schools open.
Ill look for it after sng on vs ends.

Well basically Britain looks like it will be carrying on with its so called Lockdown for another 3 weeks.

Really starting to get a farce. Either have a full lockdown or give up.

The last few days it is getting near the stage where you would think there was no lockdown at all.

Roads are busy. Plenty people out and about. All the kids are now back out seeing pals etc. People are starting to go see families again.

Sorry but way it is just now is a waste of time.

What i've found odd/at contrast is when the Italian deaths just started to increase and increase the news outlets showed us desolate streets and a grim picture of life there but here we've had, as Paul says, some sort of arse over elbow version of their response (which may/may account for the fact the UK's surpassed that total now)

The other sad event of this whole thing is having to watch that smug arsehole Hancock on the Telly.

And not the comic genius, Tony.

But the smug arsehole one.

Never thought i'd utter the words 'Thank Christ it's Dominic Raab'

I recorded this when i went there to visit.

For obvious reasons i cant discuss mission space-moose.
But i can confirm that it may or may not be Swedens response to Trumps space-force.

I can however discuss all the normal Moose-related projects going on here.
Like Stoorn, wich will be a restaurant if it ever gets built.

Could you please summarize that in Mr T style, you know, one page with bullet points and pictures? :D

Hey, nothing wrong with that - one of the things my first boss used to say was if you can't put that down on one page, it's a waste of time. Plus, the brain takes in visual presentation at something like x3 the rate of words :p

Disgusting scenes at parks in London parks today, people everywhere, stuff social distancing.
Are they fucking real, dont they realize that people will die because they are being so selfish,
its not a game, its nowhere near over and all its going to do is give us weeks more lockdown
when Boris sees how some are behaving.
I would spray the lot of them with water cannons.

I would spray the lot of them with water cannons.
You are far more lenient than I would be.

This is far from over and imo just beginning especially for a lot of countries. Just watch Russia, Brazil (most of South America I fear), India, Mexico, parts of Africa amongst others start recording scarily high figures over the next month.

Africa is where its going to really bad, black people seem to a lot more prone to the virus
and social distancing is just not practical in many places, if it does take hold millions could die.
Also the most worrying thing is how well equipped are some of those countries, to deal with it. I also wonder if some of those daily figures are so consistent because that is the maximum amount of people they have the capabilities of testing per day. Surely in some parts of the world the nearest available test would miles away and without transport in many cases.

Who knows but people taking this lightly are ignorant at best. It’s all well and good wanting to ease lockdown but look at the facts. The UK is and has been for weeks recording around 4,000+ new cases, daily.

Who are all these people contracting the virus? I know lockdown has not been adhered to strictly but you have to assume the vast majority are key workers, which tells you the more contact you have with daily life the more likely you are to be infected.

I had a message from a friend this morning who said her husband had gone for a test. She fears the worst as five of his colleagues tested positive earlier this week.

Sorry to disappoint you but SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV are (were) novel zoonotic coronavirusses too. They've been known for 17 and 8 years respectively.

The exercise wasn't about SARS-CoV-2, just about "a" novel zoonotic coronavirus. They could've aswell simulated a pandemic with an influenzavirus.

I felt sure I posted something regarding event 201 a while back but can't see it in my post history, I found it odd both fauci and (his puppet master :D) gates were convinced there would be a pandemic coming shortly, especially with fauci funding 'gain of function' virus research in wuhan, china. When you start fiddling with viruses to make them stronger or more contagious. This bat virus research hasn't helped us cope with covid-19, so what was the point of it?

The sooner china and the far east countries shut the wet markets the better, as it will just be used as the excuse every time a new virus 'appears'. We need to shut them before this winter season, stop eating bats and other potential virus carrying wildlife please.

Is it so hard for you to concentrate on the real issues? Fauci/Gates aren't part of the problem. They are there helping people. While conspiracy people are there to make things worse.

You wanted the wet markets kept open??

No, they're a disgrace.

Dr. Fauci has indeed said there would be a pandemic during Trump's presidency, in a clip that was a few seconds long and could've been taken out of context. Do you have the full speech he gave?

It was always a matter of time until we would be hit with "the big one". We dodged some serious bullets with SARS-CoV and the 2009 swine flu. That was twice in a decade.

But you always have to throw Bill Gates in there somehow, calling him the puppet master this time. I honestly don't know if he has said there would be a pandemic this year or "shortly". I mean, every virologist out there has probably been saying that there would be.

Go back a couple of pages and there's a whole Reddit thread I posted made by a virologist about the importance of research on bats.

Do you have any clue what a wet market is? Got your pitchfork ready to force countries to shut them down?

Will you shut your pubs? Because wet markets are just as much heritage in Asian countries as pubs in the UK.

But I guess no matter how much domestic violence, addiction issues etc are due to pubs, you would never think of closing one, wouldn't you? Shall I dig out the number of people dying every year in the UK because of those issues?

How many pandemics/epidemics have come out of wet markets until now considering they have been around for centuries?

The scientific establishment, which now unfortunately includes the puppet master gates, put the blame squarely on the wet market.

If the wetmarkets have to stay for cultural reasons [not only in china] they shouldn't be allowed to sell any wildlife with a virus link to mankind, like Bats.

I'm not sure that is a good comparison with pubs as any problems caused are local, if they were the cause of world wide viruses killing thousands, they'd likely be shut or made safe.

Do you know how many wet markets sell wildlife? Any numbers? Geez mack, what do you think of Asians? Do you think they are some kind of Neanderthals?

So causing local problems is not worth to make pubs "safe"?

Not sure I understand, no I don't know how many wetmarkets sell wildlife with a link to viruses that can pass to humans, that's my sole concern at the moment, this pic below is from the euroweekly news website, labels it a notorious indonesian wet market still selling bats:

well landlords aren't meant to serve drunks... I don't know how else you want to make pubs safe to stop domestic violence, street violence, alcohol addiction etc... if bert gets drunk goes home and attacks his partner, sad though that is, it doesn't affect the world. I'd be in favour of making pubs safer, instead of encouraging yob culture, but it's not the same type of issue as respiratory viruses killing thousands worldwide and causing a lockdown though.

The Australian government is calling for the G20 countries to take action on wildlife wet markets, calling them a "biosecurity and human health risk".

In January, China issued a temporary ban in the trade in wild animals, as it did during the Sars outbreak.

A month later, the government "thoroughly banned the illegal trading of wildlife" and "eliminated the consumption of wild animals to safeguard people's lives and health".

But since then, a number of reports have said wildlife is still being sold in markets in China and elsewhere.

More recently, the head of the World Health Organization said all governments must "rigorously enforce bans on the sale and trade of wildlife for food".

WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: "When these markets are allowed to reopen, it should only be on the condition that they conform to stringent food safety and hygiene standards."

Tedros is right here and hope this issue isn't allowed to be conveniently forgotten about.

What? Tedros is suddenly the good guy for you when it fits your argument? Until now you painted him as a corrupt monster or at least tried to.

Improving safety and hygiene standards is surely one way. I found some of the wet markets (and I've been to hundreds) strange places but then I grew up on a farm, so seeing live animals being slaughtered there or the like never really bothered me. The Asians sure have some strange eating habits, which you do not change overnight with some law or regulation.

Personally, I think the bigger problem is that we as humans are intruding more and more into the natural ecosystem, in this case into that of bats. The closer you get and the more often, the higher the risk.

Bats are real virus Petri dishes and most won't ever get close to make the zoonotic jump to humans. And they are really important mammals. Coincidence will have it that out of millions/billions/trillions of viruses and mutations one will make it. Out of those xxx cases, one turns out to be deadly for humans.

You've edited since I replied :) so I'll add a bit more :p I am personally sceptical of the wet market theory, I read an article the other week saying the odds of it being that wet market, out of the 10,000 in the far east, which just happened to be nearest a laboratory researching the very same kind of bat viruses are very long.

But if the all the govt scientists say that's how it happened then there must be consequences to stop it happening again.

If we go on things causing deaths, there's a long list of activities that directly or indirectly lead to early deaths and serious illnesses etc...pubs have changed a lot over the years, many people don't even go out to them anymore but instead buy a bottle of wine from the supermarket.

I strongly disagree with the alcohol part youngblood. Alcohol is great for you. It reinvigorates the soul!

I agree with the taima part though :)
