I do want to see a list of achievements, and to compare it alongside the total bill for the approx 72 years it's been in existence.

Moving forward maybe the money would be better spent on the 'doctors without borders' organisation; look if the AP, guardian and probably dozens of other outlets think the WHO wastes money, I'm afraid that's enough for me to believe there is credible evidence. I'm not going to spend hours/days/months trying to decipher financial reports :oops:

And what makes you so convinced they're doing a great job and not wasting money that could be better spent on the ground providing medicines etc...?

”These, he says “should be worn by healthcare workers and people who have coronavirus.

Considering the rate of infection is unknown and the average amount of time people cough, sneeze and touch their mouths, this statement contradicts itself.

Of course it is beneficial to wear a mask. It doesnt sit above general hygiene and washing your hands but to say it wouldnt benefit the public defies logic and is a blatant lie in my opinion.

Like I pointed out earlier, we lost alot of time in February doing fuck all. I hope lessons will be learned because imo we can expect a virus that is way more destructive in the next 50 to 100 years. This one is classed as relatively "mild", if this one had the mortality rate of SARS or MERS combined with the contagiousness, rapid spread and long incubation period... :eek2:

Ben has a point re some being better than others - personally, i find the Germans' to be better than than 'us' in most ways:p

One of the lessons I remember from my school days. The teacher said, "Do not believe what others say to you, not even me. Learn to think." Never had a better lesson.

I can almost read these days what Ben actually meant. But the underlying idea of attributing adjectives like "better" is very narrow and in fact dangerous, when they are used in connection with something that's inherently nonuniversal (like "values" or "culture").

Longwinded way of saying we havent got any masks and if we had the public cant have them
 
On a mission today, threatened with a fine yesterday for driving to the park to walk the dog,going
again with a copy of the latest police guidelines clearly stating you can drive to take exersise.
Not to cause trouble, the dog has to be walked,I am too knackered to walk uphill to the park then give him a decent run but I dont like to threatened when I am doing nothing illegal and complying with the social distancing rules (which I take very seriously).The fine is only a bad 10mins on Bonanza if it goes pear shaped.

Again, DWB has a different mission and would not be able to do what the WHO does. They are not comparable. Is the WHO perfect? I am 100% sure it is not.

The WHO statement you quoted was made before it was established that COVID-19 can be transmitted by asymptomatic people. That transpired in late February only, IIRC

The general scientific opinion is that once you have detection in a country, then a travel ban will not help overly much and instead cause more chaos. The mitigation becomes more important. It is akin the saying: "once the horse is out of the barn, it is no use to close the door".

Plus, you still have to let your own people, permanent residents etc into the country. E.g. after Mr T's China restrictions they had another 40,000 people entering the US from direct China flights and foolishly did very little if any screening at the airports.

A travel ban would be only really effective if you impose it on all countries and all people, including your own. Any other partial restrictions won't do much good, especially if you don't properly screen all of your incoming arrivals.

The bigger problem is that most did not take it seriously enough in February when everyone had a clear understanding of what was happening in China and then starting in Italy.

What makes COVID-19 special is the asymptomatic transmission. That wasn't clear until late February, IIRC. With SARS or MERS, infected people were only contagious when they showed symptoms. COVID-19 is like a silent killer, it has spread without people knowing that they were spreading it.

They do however have a slight advantage in sports such as tennis, boxing etc since the other players are more used to train and have matches vs normal people.

Sorry but has anyone read some of the new guidelines. And people wonder why I say the lockdown is a sham and should be ended now.

Take just one of them. You are allowed to now go stay at a friend's etc. As a cool down period if being arguing at home etc.
So in other words sod it can now go see family or friends at weekend and if anyone questions it I needed a break from arguing with partner.

Add that to some of the things you are now allowed to go buy from shops etc.

Now so many ways to still follow guidelines yet do what u want.

They want to cause disruption to country for peoples welfare I can accept that but it needs to be done right . If not it is a joke that is hurting a lot of people for basically nothing.

So should your government correct the numbers, will you call it then a cover-up too? And will you then exclaim as well - It's the UK! Wake up!

You could of course, first read the full statement to see the reasons for the corrections and second, the official WHO procedure on how the number of cases in a pandemic is reported, including corrections. But then it is properly easier to just shout: Cover-up! with no evidence whatsoever. And since you have done that repeatedly and even alluded that, quote: "certain values and cultures are better than others", there is no other conclusion than to call it racist comments.

I sent you a PM with links to the guidelines and explanations for exactly this kind of thing, seems, you didn't bother to read them. BTW, they were written with the contribution of your government.

Lastly, I said it in an earlier post that the numbers of most countries are most probably not correct. That does not necessarily mean that there was a cover-up. And while I do not trust China 100% either, I will first gather undeniable facts before branding anyone a cheat. Currently, that is not the case yet but the facts will come out, eventually.

Finland has 82 deaths as of now. 2/3 of those have happened in nursing homes. :(

It's the same in Sweden, 1/3, so scary if it's the same amount in UK and other countries that doesn't include them. Italy and Spain.
In the US they raised the dead with around 3000 I think in New York alone just yesterday with including the nursing homes.

Edit: Sweden does not have that many. More 1/3 when I checked it.

So it start to be quite obvious which segment needs most care and avoid any contacts to others. Also there are many signs that children (or young people under 20 or something) don't spread virus between each others like seasonal flu where schools are one of places where it really spread.

When starting to have these kind of fact based information, also found out that in Denmark and Netherlands people who were donating blood or had blood tests for some other reason, around 3% have developed antibodies agains Covid19:

So at least starting to think about some kind of step by spet exit plan from these total lockdowns in some places start to be one of current matters. Not suggesting Premier League with full stadiums starting tomorrow but how and where to start and which order to start to open places plans are hopefully on table and something to be also happen relatively soon for some restrictions.
 
TBH I wouldnt like the responsibiliy of managing the end or relaxation of the lockdown,bloody minefield,
get one thing wrong and we could be back to square one or worse.
Still getting large deaths figures in the UK but it does seem to be under some control and looks like we
may be able to buy the time we need until a vaccine is available.At least we are not in the situation where the deaths are doubling every few days anymore.There are still big problems PPE and care homes to be resolved but maybe there is a glimmer of hope that one day this will be all a horrible memory.

What would be estimation that somehow tested vaccination would be available for whole world? Reading about different opinions that how fast vaccinations could be done and then of course how long time it would minimum for testing, not to bring anything more harmful than COVID19 is especially for kids and young people.

Do we speak about year or more or less? Carehomes of course need be strictly monitored and locked down as we see everywhere that for elderly people with weak immunity this virus is extreme dangerous and death percent very sad.

I agree 100% that i'm really happy that i don't have responsibility to decide what kind of restrictions are needed, where and for how long. If you equation where you X+Y+Z is ?, you have no idea of value of X and Y, Z you know with 40% mistake marginal and you are expected to get best result for people get over pandemia with by solving whit equation can't be really thing what many would like to do.

The ketchup is always controversial. Many want curry, others tartare sauce and some traditionalist just plain with salt and vinegar or mushy peas infact.

Few days to go the the first anniversary of my Dad leaving us (can’t get over as well) was actually on the phone saying to my mum today ‘small mercies that it wasn’t this time this year’, as he was in MacMillan.

My sisters ex husband used to go to the local hotel carvery and apply said sauce to gravy.

That put me off it for life (and the fact he was a scumbag) and it’s strictly the traditional for me, minus the mushy peas because I’ve never felt the urge to eat anything that looks like it’s came out of my own body :p

That makes me think back of a Youtube vid I saw from a critical German doctor, I forgot his name :oops: , who basically said: why do we think it only started end of 2019? It could've easily been around last winter but nobody added the new virus to the database until it hit hard in Wuhan.

Might it have mutated after it first emerged to spread easier and is that why we are currently having a pandemic?
