Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

Bloody hell , 185 died in UK in the last day, we are entering the crucial stage, seriously dont feel
like going anywhere, certainly not shopping.Cant say Italy didnt warn us that we were late going into
lockdown , we are going to be as bad if not worse than them.
Thank you all the idiots that treated last weekend like a bank holiday, you are going to kill a lot
of people.
Exactly. Some are having a hard time understanding 'Lockdown' and seem to think the streets and parks have been cleared just for them

Police can issue fines for that sort of dumbness now right?
They really should start doing that.
Maybe thats what it takes for it to sink in for some people.

Yes, it's £60

£30 if paid within 2 weeks

So basically £60 then

I've also been reliably informed by the missus that Lidl's imposed a '3 people at a time' rule. I continued to press her on this and asked if there was a distance of two metres between peeps.

"About a foot apart"

I know, ridiculous. Who even goes to Lidl anyway *cough* < *not that kind of cough*

Now the CMO has it

Bloody hell, that's a turn up. For months now I've noticed his uncanny ability of not blinking if you watched him talk. Even funnier is how he was softened up with makeup for the NHS ad he featured in!

I know he took some stick for his handling of the early 'Containment' phase fiasco, but for him to get it is just surreal. But it figures working with top officials.....looks like they've all got it then

While waiting for "Cooking with Playford" i figured i would share my dinner.
Was gonna fire up the pizza-oven outside, but rain forced me to use the oven instead.
But when preheated for a long time, and using a stone or metal plate, you still get nice results.
This is the dough:

I call this one the triple cheese.
Feta, noname and some brie.
They are somewhat small, so i had to make two. Or, i didnt have to, i wanted to.

Italians have a national tradition to kiss each other every time they meet or say goodbye which had helped the virus spreading further.

And one of the reasons for deaths may be peoples age as in Italy nearly one third of the country are people over 65. According to the latest info 85% of those who died were over 70.

Can't be doing brie on pizza, I'd rather smear a tramp's toejam on there than brie

Looks nice. But i would have just used cheddar and only toppings would have been tomato or spicy chicken.

I am such a fussy eater lol.

Think they have one of the best healthcare systems in the world as well - 1/3 over 65 is probably a consequence of that: UK's in and around the 18 mark i think.

Bloody hell again 919 deaths in Italy in the last day, cannot understand why they have it so bad when China
are down to almost zero and Russia have few if any cases ( if you can believe it)
Italy has done every thing right and are the worst affected.
Although Italy put in the measures to try and stop the virus spreading there were hundreds of posts throughout the internet showing people in restaurants cafes bars etc, so the restrictions weren’t being followed and the virus spread.
China on the other hand completely closed down Wuhan to stop it getting out , people were basically under house arrest for 3 months and that’s why it’s more controlled.

Why no thanks, i wasnae offering to buy you one -you're a shite tipper :p

Less wondering, more wandering - go down the road and use your one free walk a day.

Already been out all day at work. And you really think with my diet i go many walks.

Going to sit and phone every takeaway i use to see if any are still open.

Anyway the area i stay in has no takeaways really they are all at least 20 minutes walk away :(

Can't wait until my NHS volunteer post migrates into 'can you grab a scalpel and help out in Theatre?' and in comes yourself after one too many onion-less curries.

I be like, hellloooo pauly: you get what you pay for

Italy reacted too late. However if their lockdown is strict ... as in nothing like the UK.!! Then the tide should start to turn. It took wuhan nearly 2 months of literally being locked in they were not even allowed out to buy food. It had to be delivered . So 2 months paid off.

But then one looks at Germany's case and wonders how theirs can be so low, relatively speaking. Italy must be doing something inherently wrong, whilst many are still 'out and about' socializing, in restaurants etc

Even saw a news snippet or YT of someone walking through customs without so much as being checked or tested. There is an attitude fail clearly underlying their current predicament.

And the UK's about halfway in terms of attitude between Italy and Germany's. Hence we'll have below Italy's death toll, but still have a reluctance to actually follow protocol, as evidenced by the derps milling about in the park earlier

Given the daily Playford cooks series...are we to expect a Chef position?
That would be superb, however I may be overlooked for said position due to high demand. The cooking in the midst of a pandemic series with playford will continue as normal, so please please don’t let that worry you.

The WHO said that high mortality in Italy was provoked by the fact that they stopped testing those with whom the patients had contact, as well as those whose symptoms were not strong enough for hospitalization.

In Germany, the situation is the opposite because many doctors believe that this was achieved through mass testing.

My girlfriend is a nurse but luckily not in the virus ward. She took 7 days off as felt ill but everything is alright and on Sunday she is going back. Currently, NHS hasn't got enough and proper protective equipment for their staff so yesterday had to order from eBay 20 of those simple face protective masks for £25 ( ) so she is at least somehow protected while being there.

Ideally and especially now, in hospitals, all patients, staff and visitors must wear masks but unfortunately, it's not happening... :machinegunner:

Yep. And Germany has a much younger population than northern Italy.

I still cannot believe you want to test out your lack of operating skills on me.

What have i ever done to deserve that:(

I see they’ve loosened the very bureaucratic public sector procurement rules, here in Scotland at least for all this. Christ the times they’d have a hairy canary if you bought something at a tenner and not used the official contract where it cost 15 quid. Probably going to be a case of get what u can where you can.

Who says I have a lack of said skills?

Living in Glasgow for ten years has made me quite adept at cutting folk

You’ll be fine

Promise.

Sweden and Finland have adopted quite a different approach to all of this. Sweden being of the most relaxed countries in the world towards restricting movement for example, while Finland will close the whole province around Helsinki (which has the most cases atm) tonight.

Only time will tell which approach is better. The size of the countries and total population are similar with our nations so the effectiveness of these measures are comparable.

I just wish we wouldn't have to gamble this way.

Yeah, its weird how lax Sweden is being about this.
On the info-page about the virus it said something about how closing down schools had no research showing it to have any real benefits in stopping the spread.
How that is i dont know really.
I guess if you are not doing a 100% lockdown, kids are gonna spread it even if not being in school.

Infection seems to increase quicker here than than it does in Finland tho.
Im still kind of thinking they will shut the schools and implement some stricter rules soon enough here.

Yep. And Germany has a much younger population than northern Italy.

This seems like a myth that the media used to try to explain what was happening.

If age was the driving factor Germany would have more deaths than Italy in % and especially in absolute numbers. This is obviously quite the opposite.

I wish they would let me work from home. Working in our hospital gives me severe anxiety.

They have split up our management team where some are forced to work from home now in case it hits our team, they dont want us all wiped out at once. We are seeing new cases every day and quite a few in ICU on ventilators.

At first when this came about after reading reports, it seemed like just a strain of the flu. As things progressed and I see first hand what is going on, I can say with absolute certainty this is devastating and incredibly scary.

If you dont want to believe the media, who I bash a lot around here. Well, Believe me. I work at a large hospital in a busy city in Ontario. Do not go to places, do not visit people, wash your hands. Stay inside. I read the reports, I deal with health records. I see everything going on. Everything. We have conferences every single day with the experts. This is not to be taken lightly at all.

The reason for Italy is not just aging, it is because they are a population of smokers, drinkers which weaken the immune. But there are healthy people getting hit by this very hard too. If you think you are safe because you are young, think again. Studies are being done on blood type and medications to see how much they factor in.

We had a virtual meeting with the CEO of our hospital today and he made it very clear this is going to get worse still and we will also need to prepare for a second wave.

One of the conversations brought up today is why a large number of fatalities have Ibuprofen in their systems, advil etc and if it's true we should only be taking tylenol. This is unconfirmed but there is real speculation by specialists right now that ibuprofen is having adverse affects. So a lot of stuff is still being tested. We are in the beginning stages of this right now and are trying to figure out what is conspiracy and what is fact.

If you have any type of illness or ailment any type of breathing issues or lung issues. Do whatever possible to stay in your house away from others. These are the most vulnerable.

You might be surprised to hear me say this. But if there was a vote to have the military patrol the streets and force every single person stay inside for 1 month and have home packages delivered. I would be the first person in that line to vote for it.

Stay away from people.

Classed as a key worker to start with I was! but as their is surplus staff I’ve been furloughed for the next 12 weeks at least!!
Will offer up my services voluntarily in the community as long as my family is safe
The consequences of this of this unprecedented situation will be felt for many years to come
