Again, what I'm seeing is nothing more than highlighting how far humans have fallen in dealing with any sort of problem in a sensible, common sense way.

People are so used to having their every whim catered to through modern conveniences that any temporary interruption to their safety-bubble and they lose their rationale, I guess technology's a lot to blame for that too.

Fact is, how many people prior to Covid-19 hung around people coughing, sneezing or looking unwell for shits and giggles. How many people defied doctor's, bosses' and their own body's symptoms and crawled into work or public gatherings to infect everyone they come into contact with.

How many people spend all day commuting, working, shaking hands etc and then proceed to lick the palms of their hands, eat sandwiches, rub their eyes etc.

Well I guess some people clearly did, and still do. Facts are most will get something off someone anyway at some point even if prepared, from all manner of seasonal outrageous bugs floating around. Since when do people need to be told to wash their hands, today's age is pure Sesame Street.

When Corona deaths surpass the UK's approx 8000 flu deaths annually I'll be sure to join the panic brigade. Until that unlikely day, people need to get some perspective

If people don't do shit to protect the vulnerable population...they should get hefty fines or some jail time. That kind of idiocy is killing people and overcrowding hospitals. It's just simply stupid to wait until they see 8000+ killed people before they start doing anything.

I'm for senisble precautions; avoid large gatherings where able, wash your hands, eat and sleep well, stay home, if able, when sick, but a normal amount of food and supplies erring SLIGHTLY on a bit of excess ie grab a couple cases of water and some staples...like a normal precaution for any unsuspecting emergency.
Panic buying and hiding indoors for months? No.
Mass media scaring? No.
Think everyone person outside of you is a plague-carrier? No.

Yes it is a bad virus and unfortunately many have died and will die. But seperating elderly from family and friends will do them a lot of damage themselves. Stopping the virus from reaching the elderly may save them. Isolating them and taking the little bits of enjoyment and company they have in life may well kill them anyway.

And let's face it we live in a time where businesses already struggle and many close every week. Totally shutting everywhere down for months will basically be the end of many shops, pubs businesses . Also the amount of money people lose by being forced to take time off work when they are not even ill will affect them badly.

You have to ask what is the worst. A Virus that will pass or the long term damage that may take many many years to recover from. How many people will die through depression , How many families will end up homeless, In a time when people struggle to feed their kids how many will end up with nothing to survive on at all.

Yes it is a virus that i may get and with health the way it is it may kill me. But can't help thinking the consequences for many may be worse than this virus ever will be.

If people think amazon prices are bad, have a look on ebay. When I was packing this week I found a brand new bottle of purell hand santisier, had a look on ebay they are selling for £25.00-£50.00. I paid £1.99 for it just after Christmas.

So idea is to close everything, make companies go bust put thousands if not hundreds of thousands out of a job, thus creating misery, poverty and all sorts of issues and for what........? It will spread anyway, I live month to month like most so I can't afford not to work or not have a job.

Deaths are sad but to be expected, putting millions into poverty should not be expected. I'm disgusted by this overreaction to close everything, yet keep work offices(mine included) and supermarkets open which will spread it quicker than any cinema or sports event they have all shut down.

The world has gone mad, and it won't be this bug that makes shit hit the fan it will be poverty and looting that will follow the longer they keep everything closed.

The Dutch PM announced earlier this evening that a large part of the population in NL will get infected with the virus. Yet, he failed to offer any words of consolation, such as "many will have mild symptoms" or "the majority will recover from it". He did promise to help out businesses/employees and independent workers financially.

It seems that my brother in law (54) has the virus but he won't be tested until his symptoms get worse. He and my sis are strong and healthy, so I assume he'll recover and my sis as well (if she's infected, which is likely).

I don't like the fear-mongering either, but the seriousness expressed by the PM of a people that has a reputation of being level-headed has got me worried, not for myself but for the elderly and those with underlying health issues.
