Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

erm, as much as I'm no mountain of knowledge, I'm pretty sure the world got along just fine before mobiles, microwaves, satellites, infra red, wifi etc etc etc
I think that it is checks and balances.
Fundimentally folk have to believe that above governments has to be others that are directing them. Above them are those who take a world wide long term view.
Your Country in itself is only significant in the world view as it needs to be to those dictating how they want the world to go.
I know it may sound so stupid to many. But think about how many decades and even more that those have had the tech intelligence, the money and the influence to dictate what happens in our futures.
Bare in mind with this that as a bare minimum we are at least 20 years behind in what we get to know as advanced technology. Some are many more decades in advance of our knowledge.

Are we seeing eugenics at play here with this virus? Eugenics101? Something worse?

I hope it doesn't mutate and wipe out Countries that have not yet been touched with it much

Not really sure about your theory.

You see, viruses mutate much faster than we humans. It was very clear when SARS happened, that there will be more coming, it was just not clear when and how. We had MERS in 2012, so about 9 years from SARS, no COVID-19 about 8 years later. Similar periods to make the successful transmission between animals and humans.

Coronaviruses are zoonotic viruses and there are virtually hundreds of strands. We simply will not know when the next will mutate sufficiently to make the jump from bats/other animals to humans.

The "funny" or maybe better said scary part is that each of three from the last two decades, SARS, MERS and COVID-19, is using a slightly different protein to lock onto human cells. And it took them only a few years to adapt.

Nature as its best and most cruel. Well, nature was never kind as the strongest and fittest are chosen to survive other species.
Corona in its many strains has been known about and studied / analyzed for years as mentioned, why would they not develop vaccines and/ or house these 'covert' lab facilities where the strains are most prevalent

Took me 2 cups of coffee to crawl through this thread. Beer would've been a better choice.

First here's hoping @mariafbb gets well soon and @shadow123 and his wife stay safe (and everyone else who are in the risk categories).

Coronaviruses (the family) were discovered in the 1960's if I'm not mistaken. Like any viruses, they mutate and some strains are deadly. So vaccines against them are pretty much educated guesses. Like with the seasonal flu.

So this being a covert operation and a planned one? Some conspiracy theorists really seem to have high regard in the wisdow of these evil perpetrators. Like they are some kind of super intelligent people with higher knowledge than others.

I don't believe that at all. My earlier remark from the other thread stands: People are fucking stupid.

Is every country going stupid like AU :eek2:

I still can not get loo paper but it will be my mission today to search every shop.

Road trip :D
Maybe just buy a few bottles of booze and mixers and extra bedding and PJ's instead. It seems that at its worst you may sweat a lot :)

What few realize is that before all this tech uber-wank, people just sat indoors and made origami animals using scraps of paper, or sing songs round the fire.

People didn't party, didn't have fun, and certainly didn't have sex

Ah-hah.

Some good advice there. And if you're not into origami, just have a beer or two. Those other things will naturally follow :cheerleader:

Everytime you quote me I feel I am being summoned by Satan himself

That is so scary not much hope for all of us :(
It's not certain and more of a 'Worst-case scenario', so likely to be a lot less

And supposed estimates state '15%' require hospitalization, so clearly many will self-treat and (hopefully) be immune to further outbreaks

p.s these are UK projections

I went to Bunnings, Woolworths, Coles, Chemist and Service Station and no toilet paper anywhere :eek2:

Its worse than before because the shelves are empty of other items as well :(

I did buy some chocolates and a caramel late because that makes me feel all better :D

Edited spelling

I think the Canadian government is going to make the announcement tomorrow that we are closing our borders. Don’t know for sure, but that’s my feeling. PM giving some announcement at 10 am.

First time we would shut the border to the United States. But it would be the right decision. Coronavirus is running rampant in the US after being unchecked and untested for weeks. Nearly all new confirmed cases today were from people who had just returned from the States. The US is about to experience the worst of it.

Was a nice joint press conference the other day between the rep's from N. Ireland and the Republic; real show of solidarity. No wonder folk are confuzzled:

Arlene Foster (ugh): we agree on everything but the timings of things. No biggie.

Some other guy: the timing of actions is crucial

Then there was the lovely M O'Neill from SF (double ugh) - nope we should close x,y,z.

Go on, pick one - which one is it.

Seriously thinking of stopping all visitors coming to the house until this shits over with one way
or another,we have health visitors, a cleaner and care assistant several times a week, I can do
most of the work they do.
Cant believe there is no routine testing of NHS staff so they are the first to go.
Working on the logic that if no one comes, we cant get the virus, cant think of any other course
of action.
Anyway it my birthday today, I dont drink but might get pissed.

Chatting to my cousin in Spain

Cabin fever may set in,but we’re ok,stay safe in the uk whatever they bring in . Lyn xxxx

Also the red cross are helping the elderly, wish i was there instead of the uk

Is it? I don't know much about all this but there are so many people that think they know. no wonder the world is confused
I just do not buy into this fear and information we are being bombarded with.

Heres some stark figures. As of yesterday there where about 1600 cases of confirmed Coronavirus in America.
16 known confirmed cases amongst famous politicians and stars.
about 0.0004% of the American population are famous. What are the chances of that? These folk have personal protection in public places mostly yet the figures suggest that they are 2400x more likely to contract the virus than your average Jo.
And guess what? Most of these famous people are anti Trump
It doesn't make sense to this simple Geordie

The number of US confirmed cases are grossly under-reported. The numbers are so low because the country's medical professionals either do not have CV tests or do not have enough of them.

US Epidemiologists estimate there are ~100,000 or more actual cases currently. Because the COVID-19 has a long incubation period of up to 14 days, most probably don’t know they are infected. The US health care system will be on the brink in about 10-14 days.

I read that Trump tried to buy the rights to an experimental vaccine for the virus from a big German
company for use by US citizens only.Think they told him to piss off.

The majority stakeholder (80%) of Curevac is Dietmar Hopp, a proven billionaire and he told them to F**K OFF :D

He does not need Mr T's small bribes.

Funny, that the CEO who was in the WH meeting is American but was swiftly replaced once he returned. Who knows what he and Mr T discussed and agreed, but they certainly did not like it back in Germany.

But very much expected from the "best dealmaker" ever, never an honest business transaction, all mob-style as he has done all his life as a real estate braggart and in the last 3+ years as president.

Happy birthday regardless. Stay safe

Won't be long and the DOW will be at the level when Mr T took over in Jan 2017. Will Mr T keep boasting about it now or shall we place bets as to who he is going to blame. :D

Found it rather despicable how he said last night: "I am very happy" relating to the FED lowering interest rates to zero. Looked like a child that has finally got what it wanted. Money first, people second.

With reportedly 100s of millions in loans that will surely save him a few million in interest.

I was in 3 of my usual stores today and 2 of them was totally empty of toilettpaper/papertowels and the third 1 was almost empty of all. :axeman:

Things are not that bad here in Moominlandia, at least not yet. Went shopping Saturday morning and the store I went to had one packet of toiletpaper on the shelf. I left it there on a principle. Didn't bother to check another store (which was about 100m from that one).

Today the shelves were full again. Because there isn't a shortage. Just people acting like idiots and hoarding like maniacs.

I'll stock up on toiletpaper when the paper mills have shut down. Or maybe not even then. The water still runs without any problems.

Shadow with the health visitors coming into your home, could they not wear a mask and gloves, so if they did have something it would lessen the chance of infection?

Maybe they should have their temperature taken everytime they go into their nhs office, they could be tested that way everyday, the govt need to be asked what is the protocol for health visitors going into vulnerable people's homes.

Edit: happy birthday shadow btw :)

My whole precaution-shopping entailed grabbing a case of Gatorade; we pretty much always buy 30-60 days of pet food and water, and TP during normal shops simply because it's economic to have gotten larger bags of pet food and waters/TP when they were on sale.

My elderly aunt is having a bit of a rough go, issues with her phone and net, so 0 outside communication, thankfully my mom checks in to run errands and make sure she's kicking.

Here, I feel like a switchboard coordinating everything - nursing home phones me as point of contact (my dad), so I have to then connect with siblings and mom etc, on his updates and that the home is closed for visititations, my cousin who cant get in contact with her mom (the elderly no net, no phone aunt) to assure her all is well after I check in with mom, and report back, generally tracking down my mom to insure she's ok, as she works in a nursing home.

Personally, I'm a bit stuffed up but not thinking OMG, it's corona; it is after all, also general cold and allergy eason as well and I get seasonal allergies

One came today, no gloves or mask, its not my job to tell them what they should be doing, they are coming back
on thursday, I will tell them not to bother until further notice.
I am so pissed with the government, Boris,s latest cunning plan is basically to do fuck all, however they are going withdraw support for mass gatherings but not commit to school closures, everything is "at the right time".
He wants more people to work from home and over 70s to hibernate for 12 weeks without offering any support.Has he not read my earlier post from my cousin correspondent in Spain ? TWAT
rant over

Well, I'm reliably informed that the shopping fiasco continues unabated, and wasn't just something one read in the news :D

What IS truly amazing is how - just like in Australia - simps are clearing shelves of purely toilet paper, baby wipes and other wipe-related accessories. Out of all the things to take.

But there's plenty of water, juices, milk, cheeses, meat & fish etcetera

Welcome to modern society. Only thing that is contagious is how there's an equal number of complete idiots in every country buying the same irrelevant shit. I actually WANT these people to find all actual supplies, you know, needed to live, are gone. And they're left with Andrex triple-ply sheets that they have to eat

More alarming is wankers buying 10 of everything so rest of us have nothing.
But they're not even buying THE RIGHT THINGS

I'm 87% certain it's a conspiracy by the Lords of the Goat Shadaloo to make me have massive skids in my pants
