Just another one of the governments ridiculous unenforceable laws, right up there with "you are only allowed to go for one walk a day" when it comes to the sanity test.

Supermarket staff on minimum wage contracts cannot be held responsible for enforcing the governments rulings and neither should they be. Yes I will wear a facemask, but if anyone else chooses not to that's entirely up to them - although no doubt we will have the self appointed "Mask Neighbour Watch" prowling the aisles - normally consisting of old ladies with nothing else to do, attempting to take people to task, safe in the knowledge they won't get a punch on the nose (unfortunately).

The actual rules

From 26 July, the FCO advises against all non-essential travel to mainland Spain based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks. Only the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa) and Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera) are exempt from the FCO advice against all non-essential international travel.

This advice is based on evidence of increases in cases of COVID-19 in several regions, but particularly in Aragon, Navarra and Catalonia (which include the cities of Zaragoza, Pamplona and Barcelona).

The FCO is not advising those already travelling in Spain to leave at this time. Travellers should follow the advice of the local authorities on how best to protect themselves and others, including any measures that they bring in to control the virus. If you are returning from Spain (including from the Balearics and Canaries) on or after 26 July you will be required to quarantine on your return to the UK, but the FCO is not advising you to cut short your visit. You should contact your tour operator or airline if you have any questions about your return journey.

Most look good. I'd eat them. The top row are perfect. A couple could have had another minute or two under the heat but I'd eat those to.

People here who have visited France tell me the restaurant meat is really under cooked almost raw and you have to asked for it medium or well done. Is this true?

Whilst I understand the spirit of the intent It's another unenforceable rule from our government , we barely have enough police to deal with regular crime and actually believing that public health officials who are probably maxed out with confirmed cases,are going to visit peoples homes to check they are in is just ludicrous, not to mention the flaws in the plan

New arrivals will be told they may be contacted at any time during their quarantine and, in England, may be visited by public health authorities conducting spot checks.

They will be told to avoid public transport and travel to their accommodation by car "where possible", and not to go out to buy food or other essentials "where they can rely on others".

So I go on holiday to Spain, they come back and then quarantine myself for 14 days. Home Office visit (yeah right), I'm not in because I am out buying food and other essentials because I have no one else to rely on and cannot get a home delivery slot. As my daughter would say "Epic Fail Boris"

Coronavirus: GPs to prescribe cycling in new obesity strategy

I wonder if they will prescribe a bike as well, I could do with a decent triathlon bike, although as it takes me 30 minutes in a queue to get a regular prescription I don't want to know how long I would have to wait before my bike appeared from behind the Pharmacy counter. It appears that based on the BMI figure 2/3's of the country are clinically obese - based on my BMI this would include myself who works out 2 hours day I assume.

Boris has admitted that his obesity caused him problems during his Coronavirus infection - so this beggars the question

Girl walked past me with aplomb the other day no one said a word - most people are just sanguine about it. Do I want to get a punch in the face for trying to enforce the governments ridiculous unenforceable laws on their behalf - hell no. I just gave the girl a wide berth.

As for the police enforcing it, I am convinced that someone plays a jolly jape on them every morning and sticks superglue on their car seats - they seem incapable of getting out of them . The only time the police are going to enforce the "masks policy in shops" is when supermarkets make the doors and aisles wide enough to drive a BMW 5 series through and down them.

Not heard of anybody being fined yet and i think thats the problem. Until people hear that their mate John got fined £100 for not wearing one in Tescos they will continue to flout.

Without consequences people will do what they want.

Its another sham ruling where the government need to be seen to be doing something.

Enforcing it is something they dont seem to be concerned about. It would have taken a few days of harsh civil enforcement to make people sit up and think twice.

Only way to draw comparisons to other pandemics is if we had solid data to fall back on. Problem with that being that they botched that by recording quite a few deaths as 'Covid', when they weren't. They've openly admitted to it, and so we end up none the wiser.

So if we're to assume 50%+ were lies, and that despite all the hoo-ha it predominantly ravaged care homes and the elderly, it's fair to say the handling of it was based on, yep, panic and overreaction. Clearly in the cold light of day the numbers would be comparative to the Flu, sorry to say.

And yet I don't recall anyone ever having been needed to be told NOT to cough, sneeze and barf around the vulnerable in society, it was assumed people already extended that courtesy to not endanger them

Common sense by our leaders, the media & 'normal' people would have ensured our economy and all-round way of life needn't have got tanked. But why let that get in the way of a good story

re 1984 tactics: Article 21 of the United Nations' 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that "The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government".

In this the uk govt have failed, as they've not convinced many of the public of their logic regarding masks, somebody going to a large supermarket, where they are still restricting the number of shoppers in at any one time, must wear a mask but anyone going to socialise in a pub or restaurant doesn't. [or exercise in a gym where there will be a lot of exhaling, prob in an airtight windowless room] children aged under 11, presumably living with adults, don't need a mask but over 11's do, is the science proven for any of this?

Doesn't the difference in rules seem a bit off-kilter, if you're only interest is preventing the spread of this 'deadly' and highly contagious virus? Not only that but have the constant threat of a £100 fine looming in the background for any dissenters.

I think handing out free masks and recommending people use them would have been better, why only use the stick approach when the carrot hasn't been tried and could also work just as well?

The govt and media establishment seem desperate to keep us in this bubble of fear they've created even though the fatality rates are now minimal and linked to the existence of other health conditions, so why not socially restrict these vulnerable citizens, and assist them with guaranteed shopping deliveries etc... instead of imposing restrictions on the whole population? [we could do it for a month and see what happens]

I'd love to hear a politician advocating for continued lockdowns answer that.

That's because it's in Dutch, actually it's a local dialect from Aalst, Oost-Vlaanderen (city between Ghent and Brussels)
