Corona virus - Covid 19 discussion

Should they not have called this Kung Flu?

On a serious note, my friend has a chinese takeaway, been open for over 40 years, past few weeks he's getting regulars ringing saying they are scared to order in case they catch 'that virus'. He then has to explain he hasn't been to China for 7 years, so has no more chance of having it than they do!

One whole death in the whole of Europe!! The outbreak is real. We all have days to live
exactly lol.

And to put it into perspective given the fact most vulnerable people in UK get a flu vaccination.

In the UK it is estimated that an average of 600 people a year die from complications of flu. In some years it is estimated that this can rise to over 10,000 deaths (see for example this UK study from 2013 , which estimated over 13,000 deaths resulting from flu in 2008-09)

To be fair the statistics show that the death rate from flu is around 0.01% and the death rate from Covid-19 is between 2-3% with about 1/5 of cases requiring hospitalization with oxygen needs so the Covid-19 is much more serious than flu. So if 100 people get it 20 will go on to develop viral pneumonia and 2-3 people may die. So good handwashing etc and using common sense would be called for and just say a prayer that it doesn't take hold in Europe. I know Ireland is not prepared for an epidemic here.

Tell you what is dangerous atm in the uk the high winds [storm dennis?] be extra careful if you've got to go out. I just got caught in the beginnings of it  in the south east.

I've heard a tapping from the ceiling - off up to the loft to see if it's water. FFS - the next few months gambling budget could be stolen by a roof.

I have just come across this video, what you all think?

Firstly how do we know she has it?

Secondly if you don't like your boss and want them to get it ill try this at work by doing that over their keyboard or mouse ;)

Do people on here not remember the measles parties some mothers used to have to try to get their kids self immune without being vaccinated?

It could be some people think if everyone gets coronavirus it will speed up the virus and everyone will become immune.

Of course it could also be she is just nuts and needs help.

My friend told me that the Chinese are untidy, spit everywhere, fart, now I see a partial confirmation of this..
I'd avoid broad sweeping generalizations; there's stellar peeps and ass-hats the world over

You have people like that no matter which country you are from. I would not pick on a certain race as we are all human and there is good Chinese and bad Chinese same as in your country good and bad people.

When working in the casino industry a long while back, 90% of our custom was from Chinese and 90% of those would dress super smart for their nights gambling ;)

They also in the main tidied thier own mess, used plates, cups, discarded ciggie packs etc etc Something the English NEVER did!

Then again the casino was in Dudley :p

That's it then. One video of one person out of 1400 million or so.

Solid evidence. Other than the "my friend told me" part. Which is hearsay -> Case dismissed with prejudice.

ive never heard it said that way vs 1.4 billion :D

I have read about the occurrence of hawking and spitting years ago, I'm sure it was in a proper travel writer's book [might have been bill bryson or paul theroux]; everybody farts, don't know about untidy.

But if you look up chinese and lack of empathy, there are quite a lot of articles online regarding that, some laying the blame at the communist's door as they've relegated the importance of religion, some saying money has become too important. They do have a slightly different outlook on life, death etc...maybe more realistic or shaped by the harsh realities of living in a country with 1.4 billion people.

Every country has a class system even communist china, I highly doubt an educated chinese person would do what that woman did, or spit in the street, the standards of behaviour differ. People from china could make sweeping judgements on the brits, the lager lout culture etc.., would it be totally untrue, no, is it racist to bring it up it, no.
