I cdnuolt blveiee that I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd what I was rdanieg. The phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid, aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mtaetr in what oerdr the ltteres in a word are, the olny iproamtnt tihng is that the frsit and last ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can still raed it whotuit a pboerlm. This is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the word as a wlohe. Azanmig huh? Ditto, but I stridently disagree with the conclusion that spelling is not important. The only conclusion that can reasonably be drawn from this is that letter order is not terribly important but misspelling something can totally screw this up.

For instance consider the word 'butter' and a likely misspelling of it, 'buter'.

If I do the letter jumble thing on the original word I get 'bttuer' for example which I think can easily be unjumbled to reform the original word.

But if I jumble the misspelling to something like 'beutr' there's not much sense you can make of it.

In fact I would suggest that for the word jumble thing to work properly correct spelling is doubly important, otherwise our pattern matching abilities -- the key thing that allows us to read the jumbled text -- are quickly defeated.

And yes, my tea is a little strong this morning, thanks for asking. :eek2:

Or, as my gramps used to say "2 mch fnkE txt gvs y a nstE hdak". :P

IMO, punctuation helps one more in reading a coherent sentence structure and getting the true context of it better than spelling does, but when both are missing then it is a total whack job trying to understand it.

Now this one reads much slower. However, has anyone noticed how bad many peoples spelling has become since text messaging has been around?:what:

This is how the English language evolves. Long after we're gone, "You" will be U, "Are" will be R and the letter G will be dropped off all "ing" words in the Oxford English Dictionary. WTG!

So true Mavin, i cant even text lol and if you asked me where spell check is on this computer, couldnt tell you that either:o I do read alot, something that young folks dont seem to care about anymore, it makes me glad that i grew up in a generation where personal computers just wasnt around nor cable tv,cell phones, seems like we did alot of reading, watching the few channels we had on the tube, if we wasnt at the drive in or theater and we listened to alot of radio, but most of all we had the time to just sit and have conversations with friends and family.

I miss those days and im sure anyone over 40 can relate, we were not spoilt by the new age gagets like the generations after us imo.

PS, alot of typos and grammer mistakes to be found in all my posts:D
