New Slot Announcement Bonanza by Big Time Gaming

There's nothing 'wrong' with them as such, their 96% games pay out 96% over time, they don't cheat, they're not rigged or compensated, but once you get your head around how their game design and maths models work, they can become quite unpalatable.
That post is very interesting. BTG must have got lazy with some of their slots because as much as I like beef lightning the second reel is stacked with only 10s and Qs to balance it out!

I think the quoted bit is why I'm a bit bored of them now. I started completely skeptical so spent a lot of time looking into slot design and 'rigged' stuff while I was playing.

I disproved the rigged stuff myself just from playing but the design 'gimmicks' bothered me right from the start.

I think my problem is that looking for those things has become part of my slot play and once I notice something it puts me off the slot.

Bonanza is so well designed that it will hypnotize in a way that I don't think any other slot does if you try to bonus or bust it. Just end up spinning away and get lost in it until the 'not enough balance' pops up!

It's why the only way I could play it was to set a strict max. 20x loss limit and leave if nothing happened.

Read our BTG review and find out where to play BTG slots
I just gave DoA2 a spin and hit a first spin bonus for the second time last few days, thought ha bonanza never does that for me. I then hit another one so 2 bonuses in ~4 mins for 40x return. Not impressive but better than nothing.

After reading @ChopleyIOM interesting post I thought to use 20x just to see the 'teases' now I know the symbols are actually on the reels and not programmed to drop in as it's quite impressive.

It played really well with no 'teases' for 5 mins and dropped in a bonus for 112x!

I then played on for 20 spins or so but it wouldn't tease so I left!

Don't know how I feel about it tbh

I made a video about one of them, Megaways Gold I think it was, it was on my old YT channel but I've never reuploaded it to my new channel.

From memory I got it up to over 300,000 Megaways in the bonus for multiple spins, but it can do one million Megaways or something, and you can see the reels extended out in the game, at which point it becomes very obvious how they're designed to miss stuff all the time.

The most blatant one is alternating symbols, so reels 1 and 3 will be heavy with certain symbols, but reel 2 will have practically none of them, but then other symbols will be heavy on 2 and 4, but missing on 1, that sort of thing. So on Bonanza when you think you've 'just missed' a diamond or whatever to connect a big win, the reel that missed might have one diamond on it and be god knows how many symbols long. (BTG games have famously long reel strips.)

They do it with the premium symbols as well, so you'll get loads of enticing looking premium symbols on a number of the reels, even stacks of them, but when the reels are extended out a long way, you can really see how they are almost completely missing from a critical reel that means you almost never get them participating in a win.

There was a thread here a few years ago doing a statistical analysis of the BTG game Danger High Voltage, that isn't a Megaways game but the same design principles held true, with really long reel strips and symbol distribution designed to keep the game in check - because at the end of the day all these things are running with a house edge of around 4% (or often a lot more these days), and without that symbol distribution you'd end up with a game paying 150% or whatever.

If you can find Gold Megaways on demo play somewhere, just lump away at it until you get a bonus that properly gets going on the insane number of Megaways, and watch how something like 330,000 Megaways either misses completely for multiple spins, or manages a 3OAK on fucking 9s or something.

I had a proper extended play around loads of BTG games a few years ago, and documented it here at CM in the appropriate threads, the conclusion I reached at the end of my endeavours was never to play BTG slots again :D

I don't know if you will remember this Chops, but I seem to remember an old classic slot from the "good old days" that was quite guilty of this behaviour, but on a much smaller layout ie the standard 5 x 3 layout....

Pure Platinum

It's been quite a while since I played that game, but IIRC reels 1 and 3 would be heavy on AQ10 while reel 2 would be heavy with KJ9.
It was either that or KJ9 on reels 1 and 3, with AQ10 on reel 2.

Basically, you were always praying for a wild on reel 2

I can't say I ever noticed a similar pattern with the premium symbols on that game though.

But it does go to show that this kind of....uhm..."housery" (?) was a thing long before BTG came along to rewrite the "visually tilting programming" rulebook.

The bonanza retirement lasted a long time eh? :D
I was debating that when I was thinking to try it

Was expecting it to give me maybe 10 dead spins I'd see the teases and leave.

Edit: JATB just threw in a first spin bonus too for 40x. I think bonanza won't be sucking me back in (again lol) just yet. Strange evening so far!

are you setting a strict 20x loss limit per day for Bonanza or can you do more than one session it if you play other slots between a session? in a good sessiion Bonanza won't even drop down 10x and keep increasing the balance.

I rotate slots so bonanza was recently getting around 60x through the evening as all the other slots were quite dead.

Usually it would probably be 20x/40x as I would try bonanza at the start of the session and then at the end if everything else is dead.

I would freeroll too if the base played well enough as I like to try and bonus a slot with whatever I'm up by and then leave if I hit zero. Occasionally I might leave up as the base played well enough but I get bored after a while.
