Well, here’s my opinion. Doesn’t mean, I am right or wrong. It’s just my take on things. The one thing I do have to back my opinion is one hell of a lot of experience when it comes to playing Bonanza.
At a fairly accurate guess, I have done well over 2 million spins and at a rough guess wagered a good £2,000,000 through the game so my findings aren’t from a small sample.
1. There are days when, as we have alluded to, the D will not drop and if you force it through a ridiculously large amount of spins, the result will be shite.
2. The game plays differently at certain sites. I don’t play at all Casinos, obviously but I play/have played at a good 40 or so and from my findings, I can categorically say that,
Leo Vegas, Bet Victor and Sky are the absolute worse imo and play differently to other sites. One thing I never get at any of those, is a deposit that fluctuates. The odd small withdrawal aside, my deposits are usually swallowed up, in record time.
3. The game has been changed, despite what others will try and tell you. The feature is much harder to land and the majority of bonuses that paid between x100 and x500 have been removed and a bit of that rtp has been added to x500+ wins, which are extremely rare and some has been added to meaningless, small base hits. The rest has just disappeared. Only an opinion but totally feasible.
4. Why would they change the game? Seems an obvious question to ask. I mean, it has been lorded in the past (by myself included) as the best game ever. Why fix it if it ain’t bust?
Again imo, it was certainly one of the best games ever released, BUT did there come a point where, from a provider/Casino view, the game was too fair? I am just using logic here.
It was certainly possible in the early years to make a deposit of say £20, play 20-40p spins and have that deposit last a couple of hours. It may never have gone above £30 but you would get a lot of entertainment even if you lost it in the end. That absolutely, never happens now.
My point being, the game possibly became so popular, that although they had the 4% house edge, it was taking too long for players to actually lose that 4%. I mean, it makes more sense from the providers point of view, to reprogram the game so that players lose more quickly. I always wondered why Redbet took Bonanza from their library when it was at its peak and it just may have been that the game was a liability.
Only opinions but not posted without a great deal of experience on the subject. Some of it won’t be right as I am surmising but I can guarantee one thing, it won’t all be wrong either.
