Blockchain wallet hacked - emptied. Warning!

I just discovered that my Blockchain.Info wallet was hacked and emptied last week.

The bastards took all my Bitcoins, Ethereum and most of my Bitcoin Cash (don't know why they left me a tiny bit)
Apparently I have zero hope of getting anything back: 5 figures - poof, gone

I advise everyone to make sure your crypto-currency accounts are as secure as possible.

That's why a big drop in prices as there have been hackings, So what I have is not worth much but going to check what the value is but I have my stuff offline in one of those usb wallets. Hope you can get it back through the site you were on.

Even with the password - every time I log it they send me a verification e-mail with a link I have to click to get into my account - so how did the fuckers get round that???

The e-mail on my account had not been changed and the system was still working normally when I logged in today.

ffs thats a nightmare. It's pretty much certain to be phishing, trojan or a keylogger or something similar installed though. Make sure you do an in depth virus scan and anti malware scan on all computers/phones etc that you use. I would suggest using a hardware wallet going forward too if possible.

That is terrible I myself have Blockchain wallet not much in it though.

I thought it was pretty safe with all that extra security.

I get a code on my phone plus email link when I log in.

I hope somehow you get it back.

That's just horrible KK. And not small change either, so sorry to hear this.

One thing with cryptos is to always use cold storage, especially if you hold a significant amount. Using any service where you can't totally control your keys is a leap of fate.

Oh no. That is horrible! And I hate to say this, but it happens all the time, and it's a horrible time for trading right now. If you have a desk top wallet its harder to hack, but then makes it harder to trade. When your on the exchange your wide open. Ethereum is worth 432 dollars right now too. Again I feel your angst

I never trusted crypto currency wallets and therefore actually never purchased any crypto currency.
Some time ago I was thinking in investing in one of the lesser known crypto currencies and see if it would go up in value over time but when I was doing research about the safety of the wallets and stuff, I just backed out. Too risky for me.

Apparently lost and gone with NOTHING anyone can do about it
This is the one big downside to Crypto being instant & virtually anonymous...

I never trusted crypto currency wallets and therefore actually never purchased any crypto currency.

Fortunately I've never bought any either.
All my crypto's were pay from affiliate earnings. Due to the rapid changes in exchange rates last year, I had actually cashed-out everything I had been paid, and what was left in my account was purely profit left over because of the huge rate changes.
So though I am totally gutted that someone could just take my £25K and disappear, it does make it slightly more bearable that it was only "free profit" made that way.

None that I am aware of.

Well Blockchain put the blame firmly on my PC's security - well they would, wouldn't they!
I'm 99% confident in my personal security, and I think this hack was at THEIR end. Of course, they would never admit that, and they may not even be aware of it themselves if the hackers are very clever... or maybe even employees...

From the very little I understand - yes, an external storage device is the highest level of security you can have.

But, being very cynical, how would you know if the software on your device is safe?
What if hackers are producing and selling these external wallets to the general public?
And what would stop a Trojan on the computer you plug it into accessing your funds instantly?

Too many questions and not enough answers
One thing's for sure - I'm never going to leave large amounts of Crypto's in any wallets ever again.
