A month ago I had some bets at Bet365. The biggest was around $4000. Very quickly I noticed they decreased my betting limit.
I asked a friend about his limits and I realised, they made my limit around 1 (one!!!) % of the normal.
It's a discrimination. They do not have the right to make difference between users. If they accept a bet from somebody, they must accept the same bet from other person.
I wrote them and asked, how do they imagine it and which office is monitoring their activities.
I did not get any reply.
I am about to take action against them.
These is a famous bookmaker in the UK, so I am sure there is a proper office, court where I can write my complaint.
Please advice me.
Thank you

Sportsbooks are perfectly within their right to lower betting limits, increase juice, or pay you out and close your account altogether, and it is a pretty standard practice, even among the most reputable books. The only book that almost never cuts limits or increases juice on obvious sharp bettors is Pinnacle.

I'm afraid this is totally correct. there are worse culprits than bet365 at this.

Limits and rights

Yes, they have the right to lower limits, if they set up the same limit for everybody.
But they do not have the right to set up $10 and set up $1000 for 2 different customers.

Why not? Can you quote the law which makes it illegal?

I live in Hungary, I do not know the rules in the UK or in the country where Bet365 is registered.
In Hungary you cannot behave like that. No discrimination between customers. The price is the same for everybody. You cannot ban people without proper reason.
Maybe in the UK if you run a business you can tell to a customer, I do not like your face, so get lost. In Hungary no. And if think so this is fair, because if you got a permission from the goverment to run a business, then you should not make any discrimination, like the goverment does allow discrimination between people.

Sportsbooks low betting limits to protect their business. It's normal! It's not a kind of discrimination at all.

If you are limited and don't like it, go to other sportsbooks.

If the betting limit is same low for every customers, then it is OK, but if they cut one customer's limit to 1% it is discrimination.

A reputable sportsbook would not do this.

Kaszino, I'd recommend you try Centrebet. Or even Sportstab (tabcorp) for large stakes. Neither of these would limit you for winning, at least Centrebet did not do so when it was owned by Terry Lillis.

If someone has $4000 on a selection the bookmaker has to think how much they're going to lose if the selection wins, they've then got to balance this with all the other selections in the event so they are right to limit this guy. if you have $4000 at 4/1 your not gonna get another $4000 on at 4/1 are you? they'll either cut the price to about 2/1 or limit your stake, thats whats most commonly done, no discrimination at all.

It is discrimination because they are singling out a knowledgeable punter. They are limiting him on all events or only those events which he seems have a strong win-loss ratio in.

Now the issue here is that they would allow another punter to place the $4,000 but not him. Anyone reputable sportsbook would have a fair playing field for all customers.

if you read his first post HE was the one who placed the $4000 bet so that's why they have limited him.

Yes but the limit does not apply to others who would like to place a $4,000 bet on the same outcome....

if 10 people put $4000 then tried to get more on, every single one of them will be limited if they try to get more money on, they wouldn't just limit the one person, they're not bothered who bets on a market, they're all about business and to be fair, if he didn't like hit he could have bet with someone else. just my opinion

The correct mechanism is to adjust the odds, not limit bets.

i just posted this in the other thread...

if there are 99 10 bettors and 1 20,000 bettor, and he/she puts 20,000 on a horse at 10/1, and the bookmaker cuts the price to 6/1, is it fair that all the 10 punters have to take this price? if you limit the big staking bettor, then he has 20,000 at 10/1 and the 10 bettors can get their money on at 10/1 so everyone is happy.

i think if the bookmaker thinks the horse will win and they have liabilities on a certain horse then they should cut the odds, but if someone has lumped alot of money on it, i dont think the small time customers should have the reduced price.

1. Running a business in the UK or in Hungary does not need a permission from the government, only certain specific kinds of activities.
2. I challenge you to find a Hungarian law that says all kinds of discrimination are illegal. Do you also claim that Hungarian insurance companies insure all cars at the same premium, irrespective of the type and value of your car, your age, gender, address and claim history? Do Hungarian banks lend money to all people at the same interest rate? Do Hungarian businesses pay everyone the same salary regardless job title, qualifications and competence?
3. Do you claim that Gipsies are not disciminated against in Hungary?

1. The goverment or a goverment regulated office regulates the gambling.
2. You are talking about a totally different topic here.
3. How does it come here? If you feel discriminated you can go to court. There are verdict against such discrimination.

If you have a shop you cannot kick out a customer from the shop without any reason. Even if you dislike him you have to serve.
Same with a bookie. If the betting limit is $10000, then this should be the limit for A player and B Player.

Thanks for the posts.
Honestly I did not care your opinion, I wanted to find a proper office where I can make a complaint against Bet365.
If I am not right, then it is my business. I do not want others opinion, I want a proper investigation.

Not only the decreased betting limit is the problem.
I asked Bet365, what kind of office regulates them, but did not get any reply. Repetead my question again no reply.
It is totally ridiculous. They can do anything with the customer. That's why I do not like online gambling. It's not regulated properly.
If I go to a casino in Hungary and I have any problem I know where to go. Maybe I am not right, but there is a proper office which will investigate my case.
How it is possible Bet365 doesn't have one?

you are talking about the Gambling Commission. They only regulate it as to what is advertised, age of the people betting etc. You could owe bet365 10,000 and they can't do anything because gambling debts aren't legally binding if i remember rightly :what:
