Hi everyone.. after dealing with the customer service departments for several casinos, I have run into many representatives who do not type as though they are on the job, but rather text messaging to a friend.

So I propose the question to you: Is it important for customer service representatives to have proficient English skills?

Its a good subject actually. I didnt know about all these translators that we have built in our pc's so thats why Im not too concerned but did go with option #2 only because when your doing your job, you should be professional

Noone spells every single word correctly but I do agree it shouldnt be like texting a friend. Like I think what should what , not wut because of being lazy. I dont think a land office boss would like it any better if you typed on a type writer in slang:)

It's very important. Customers have to feel comfortable their questions are answered accurately. Lazy typing often means lazy arsed answers. I dont think company reps should drop their guard even in a forum setting.

I think a lot of sites try to skim the costs and one of the first to go is customer service. IMO, that is a short term view but many management staff are paid for reaching short term goals. They get promoted on and the site soaks up the cost of the poor service.

Foreign Languages?

I think they should still be able to communicate. That means they need to know the games, the way around the site and have a good standard of english.

Live typos are fine, everyone does it but emails etc.should be handled with a little more care

I agree that for live chat, the occasional typo is permissable, especially if they correct themselves. Email support should be proofread before being sent.

Often the reps first language is not English, and the people they are servicing do not have English as a first language, so collequialisms should be avoided.

CS should be very careful when typing figures however. I frequently have to re-ask a question because CS is off by a factor of 100 because they did not place the decimal correctly.
