I'm an American citizen living in Canada, and I have to pay Canadian income tax on my earnings already. I recently found out that the USA is probably the only country in the world that requires its citizens to pay United States income tax even if they're living in another country.
Seems insane to me, but I'm wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation, and how you handle it? Like for instance, lottery and gambling wins are tax free in Canada - but if I win a big fat jackpot or something on the Canadian lottery, could I be required to pay US income tax on it?
Does anyone know? If you don't want to post in public view, send me a PM, thanks!
