any EwalletXpress update?

It's now been a number of weeks since EwalletXpress has admitted that their funds were "frozen." Does anyone have any update on this situation? They are holding quite a bit of money (I hope they are holding it) and it's been quite a long time for no information to be released by the US gov't.

Any and all information would be much appreciated.

I check EWE every couple days to see if there is a change in balance or another notice, but nothing. Hopefully, it will just show up in my checking account without a problem.

At this point, I haven't written off the money but I also don't completely expect to get it. If it was only a couple hundred, not a big deal. My balance is $1,883 and there are things I could use it for besides kissing it goodbye.

Amazing isn't it? Thousands and thousands of dollars of US citizens' monies held hostage by our own US gov't. and no one (except the gambling community) says so much as 'boo turkey, kiss my butt'. Are the Canadians affected also? or just US?

Even though I wasn't affected by Neteller since I quit gambling for awhile, there seemed to be more people talking about it all across the web.

The EWE mess was some hidden mystery and to a point still seems to be. This is now over 3 months old! Where's any government official statement? How much money was seized? Were secured deposits made by any casino owners seized? What countries were affected?:what:

The silence is deafening.

remarkable

It's still remarkable to me that the US gov't can keep this quiet for so long. I'm still not 100% convinced that EWE didn't just embezzle/mismanage the money.

Are no Canadians complaining? Where is the outrage? This not only affected many players, but also many operators. I believe this may have even been behind some of the slow pays at rushmore and clubworld.

Anyone? Anything?

Not that this is much but then again not much info is out there or people talking about it since November:

While the seizure of funds may leave some U.S. players who had money on the e-wallet without recourse for now, eWalletXpress customer service agents say U.S. players should eventually receive their funds.

"We are working to get the money back and customers will definitely be receiving their funds," said a customer service agent. "Unfortunately we don't know any sort of time frame on when that will be."

When NETELLER shut down four years ago after its founders were arrested by U.S. authorities, U.S. players who had money on the e-wallet seized had to wait more than six months to receive their money.

with hope

I just hope ewallet has all the funds on hand. I'd feel much better with an assurance from the gov't than from the ewx chat operator, but, it's much better than nothing :)

thanks for the info.

I had a lot in Neteller so that was a long wait for me :)

Your biggest worry should be.....

if EWE is forced to give the names of all account holders from the U.S. because the u.s. government will consider them a foreign bank account and if you didn't report the account to the IRS you could be charged penalties and interest and or be prosecuted.

I don't think EWX can be considered a bank. It is an online wallet. Also, I believe that there is a threshold for this type of reporting. Meaning that if you don't have more than 10k, for example, then it need not be reported.

It is a gray area on whether or not it needs to be considered a bank. This seizure proves that. That isn't a 'bank'.

From the law I read....

ewallets are not considered a bank but are considered a financial type institutions(sorry been awhile since I read the Treasury rules) because you deposit and they "hold your money". A credit card processor, doesn't hold your money and you don't set up an account with them.

You can look up the actual law on the Treasury and Federal Reserve websites.

You are suppose to report all offshore accounts which you deposit money in if the balance ever becomes $1000.00 or more(it could be 10,000.00, again its been awhile since I read the actual law).

Given all these legal implications, maybe players are DELIBERATELY steering clear of approaching any US authority in pursuit of the funds. Even if they are cleared by the IRS, the fact that they protested will have their file marked by the IRS as an offshore gambler, and this would probably result in them being placed under greater scrutiny in the future.

In effect, it might be "complain to a US authority = kiss goodbye to any further online gambling".

Operators are even LESS likely to kick up a fuss, and even Canadian players know this is a "grey area" legally, so might want to keep quiet for now.

The government may even be WAITING to see who kicks up a fuss as part of their "intelligence gathering".

I just want the $$$

the IRS and my gov't can have all the information they want if they would just send me my money!

I'm not sure it would be such a wonderful investment of time for the IRS with 99% of the people holding Ewallet accounts losing money each year. Recall they US gov't got all the information about all the players from Neteller and I have never heard of any issues stemming from that.

The entire situation stinks to high heavens. The silence is truly deafening.
