As a former Sydney dweller 40C+ out in the western suburbs wasn't unheard of. In Brisbane in the eastern suburbs ... 40C? Yep one for the record books!

And in Sydney most often the next day would be overcast and the temp has dropped around 15C. Here in Brisbane the temp has but the humidity is up.

I love this country so much!!! As a kiwi by birth I wouldn't go back... though I love NZ this sun-burnt land is my home and I love Australia!!!!

We whinge about some things but in the end so darned lucky to live here!!!

-35 C... the penguins at the southern pole struggle to survive!!!

Check .... perhaps you meant -10 or so? Celcius?

They do have that cold now. We gave them ours too :p

I know people believes that these countries up here are cold, and the northern part of Sweden maybe have some snow now.
Where I live we have had snow and low temperaturs for one weekend so far. A lot of rain but I can live with that.
I'm waiting for the spring already. It's +5 C here:)

-33C here right now, "feels like" -47C with the windchill... been a cold one this year, we were hitting the -30's in November.

-35F is actually pretty close to Celsius at that point, -40F is -40C.

OK this is from Chicago yesterday...we were told we had the coldest temp in the country last night....I guess hell did freeze over!

I had always thought "BrisVegas" was a nick-name for Bristol in the west country of England until I read this thread! :o
When I saw 40C I knew it couldn't be there. It is unseasonably warm in the UK and central Europe - but not THAT warm!

I feel sorry for you guys in Canada and the USA - when it's that cold I guess all you can do is stay indoors and watch "The Day After Tomorrow" over and over again... :p

the one smart thing I did in 2011 was get my suv equipped with a remote starter. That's coming in handy this winter.

Yep for winters in Chicago a remote starter is the best investment you can every make. The other night every hour I was starting the car from my window midnight till 6 am just to make sure it would be good to go for hubby to leave for work.

This weather has been the worst I've ever seen. First we got hit with 2 floods this summer, that just does not happen here. Now we got hit with a blizzard, arctic temps and now they are saying more snow.

the only thing you can do in this weather is:

1. make more babies--:xxx hint hint
2. stock up on food and supplies and pray furnace or power does not go out
3. remember how much you miss playing micro gaming :D:D:D

at one point our temp was -17 at 5 am with win chill that's makes it feel like -43 so it was just a eerie day. Not hearing the planes, trains or any cars or people.

Remind me again not to watch those end of the world movies to often....

Worst time with this time of year aint the cold, but that it is dark outside when you go work and when you come home. So fucking depressing. The day i win the Mega Fortune jacpot the first thing I'll do is buy an someplace warm and sunny to live on half the year when it's cold here :D

My eyes almost popped out when I saw that jeep and the other photos. Like the OP I'm also in Australia. It's not uncommon to hit 47C (116.6F) where we are during the day and doesn't drop much below 30C overnight. After a week of that, all I can say is, thankfully we have air-con. Those temps are high but more often it sits around 40 - 43C (104 - 109F). Still damn hot though, especially if a hot Northerly wind is blowing.

Thanks for adding the photos :)
