12 Years A Slave

Personally - I would never read a book if I saw the film first.
I've read several books and then seen the film adaptations of them - they are very rarely true to the original story. (War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise is a classic example - total garbage compared to the book!)

I guess this film has a good chance at the Oscars...
I haven't seen that one - but I did see Gravity...
Great acting, great visuals, but poor screenplay, totally ridiculous turns of events - could have been brilliant if the director knew anything at all about science.

i watched Gravity and TBH thought it was crap. 2 hours of my life i'll never get back.

I'm a big reader and would just love to know if the books worth a read.

I watched Les Miserables before i read the book and i thoroughly enjoyed the read in fact IMO it was better than the movie.

Thoughts anyone??

Funny, did you see this?

I was actually just reading a bit of it - I haven't seen the movie so I'm not sure how close it is as far as the story, but you could take a quick browse and see what you think.

Thanks Chay, i got it for my kindle at the ridiculous price of 49 pence hehe...will probably take me a year to read though, i have so many lined up.

What Is The What is next on my list.

I find some older stuff a bit of a slog to read, no matter how great the story. I think it's the style of the prose, you have to kind of get yourself into the mindset. Mind you, some more modern stuff ain't that easy either. It took me like 15 years to read Foucault's Pendulum, I kept getting to a certain point and my brain just stopped processing so I'd put it aside and have to start all over again a few years later. :o But no doubt it would make a great movie if they dumbed it down a bit.
