On my frequent trips to the Hard Rock i enjoy playing the various WMS Must hit by progressives (Bierhaus, robin Hood, Mystical Unicorn etc.) and would love to know how the must hit progressives are awarded, on the slots it cearly says Higher Wins increases chance of hitting progressives however.......

I have hit 3 Major progressives (plus a few minors) over the last couple of months for around $800 , $650 & just last week for $580 however each progressive hit on very small payouts of around 1x - 5x bet (2cent machine, Major must hit by $1000), many higher wins of 100x -500x 9usually in feature) produced no progressive hits.

I also watched as the slot next to me paid a $520 Major (starts at $500 so could not have been long since last payout) again on a win of only a couple of dollars.

Any insight would be appreciated.

N.B. Despite the above i am sure i am still way behind on these slots!

The chance of wins are linear.

If the meter is at 300/500 and you increase it by $1 on a win, then you have a 1/200 chance of winning it on that spin.
If the meter is 470/500 and you increase it by $.01 on a win, then you have a 1/3000 chance of winning it on that spin.

This is anecdotal, since I don't have access to the PAR sheets. However, I am very confident that this is how the WMS G+ deluxes operate based on my observations.

I don't think thats true. I believe when the must hit by jackpot resets the machine picks a value for the next jackpot to hit at. I've played alot of these machines in the past and I can tell you unless that number is high enough don't fall into the trap of chasing them since the meter only moves up with winning spins. Sadly, I've allowed myself to chase those minor must hit by $50 a few times and lost well over $250 on min bets when the minor value has been at the $47-48 range. They can be a cruel beast when they are ice cold and also not moving the jackpot meter. I much prefer the WMS must hit bys that move up with coin in. At least with those you can calculate the maximum cost its going to take to get the progressive and decide whether its worth it or not.

Thanks for the insight i always thought that you stood a much better chance of hitting them on big feature wins but from personal experience it does not seem to matter, i have also "chased" these cose to hit Minor pots on many occasions and usually end up puting thru way more than the value of the pot i am chasing, if they are on $95 it can easily take $500-$100 playthru to get it!, Also each time i have hit a Major it was not in the really close zone wheere the lights circle the meter

Incidentally last weeks $580 Major came after just a few spins at 120 credits

I do believe this is correct in that the machine picks the value for the next jackpot.:)

Thanks, from the way the slots play this makes perfect sense however on each machine it states that "Higher Wins increase chance of winning progressives" which would be mis-leading if the machine pre-determines the trigger value.

Yeah the reason it says higher bets increase chance of winning because if you get a big, super, or mega big win at max bet its going to push the amounts up higher than if you were betting minimum bet. So say for example if I'm betting .50 and get a $50 win I might push the minor and major meters up $.75 whereas if someone was betting max 2.50 would push it up 5x more and thus a better chance of reaching the machines preset target number to win the progressive. Make sense?
