Hi guys,
I'm facing a rather serious problem and I wish to ask for an advice.

I am an expat living in Singapore and I'd need to tell a bit of my backstory first.I registered with one of the leading bookmakers probably an year back but maybe I was punchdrunk at that moment as I ended up entering my date of birth incorrectly. Instead of 21 january 1977 I put 21 February 1980.I know it was incredibly lame and stupid, please don't ask how.

Anyways it was my first time ever entering the betting arena and I didn't know much about it. I did place few bets later on but I was never asked to submit any ID proof though I did withdraw winnings once which was about 2k $ and didn't face any issues whatsoever. After that I got kinda busy and didn't go back for a while.

A few days back I decided to put 500 $ in the account after a 4 to 5 month hiatus and with it and a stroke of good fortune ended up earning about 10k in winnings. However soon after I got limited in my betting capacity by the betting company and later excluded from all promotional activities as well. And when I tried to withdraw my winnings I was told that they're holding it up because my account isn't yet verified which is ridiculous on their part as they did release funds to me once before as I've already mentioned. I tried to convince them that I'm asking to pay my winnings to the same account which I used to replenish my betting account but now they are adamant that I need to be verified first.

This brings me to my dilemma that now if I submit an ID which indicates that my date of birth doesn't match with what's in their record they might deny me altogether .

What should I do ?
1. Should I just come clean and tell them the truth as anyways I'm way over 18 years of age.
2. Can I give them an ID which doesn't indicate my date of birth? Can this approach work ?

Is the verification process very stringent and can they really find out my age through other means?

Even if they come to know about this mess can they deny me my winnings completely ? Or is there a way I can fight them.

Lastly in the worst case scenario if they just won't let me get my winnings can I atleast get back my 500$ which I originally wagered ?

I ofcourse made a mistake when I screwed up my age but surely these people are just looking for an excuse to withhold my winnings which is highly inappropriate.

Please advise as I'm very very unsure in terms of What should I do ?

Forgive me for being skeptical but I am not convinced by your error.

Not saying your entire post is not true but the glaring differences between the date of birth, come on the error is not even close!

My point is that if I am thinking this then what will the bookmakers think??

Only a guess and I will gladly eat humble pie in full view of this forum but I reckon when you first registered/joined etc you used a family members or friends DOB/details as you were not old enough to gamble maybe or self excluded etc etc etc.

Hope I am wrong but from the verification process point of view this will stick out like a sore thumb and certainly delay if not forfeit you winnings altogether.

Sorry for the negative post and to reassure I am not making accusations just personal opinions which I feel when it comes to your 'problem' unless the explanation 'don't ask' is a bloody good one then I think you will struggle!

Well I assure you that it was an error as the name I registered with the casino appears on my birth certificate as well which surely proves I myself am is above 18 and so your argument above doesn't hold. Anyways I thank for being forthcoming on this.

Just one more question, even if I forfeit my winnings am I entitled to get the amount I wagered back atleast ? Please let me know.

Firstly, i am surprised that you can gamble online in Singapore as it is prohibited by law and anyone getting caught is facing drastic punishment.

Secondly, many casinos/bookmakers will pay out up to EUR2300 without ID check. After that they are bound by the law and license to do the KYC procedure (ID check, address and card/e-wallet details), which always includes a form of ID showing your age.

Thirdly, be upfront with the casino and tell them about your mistake when you submit your ID. If all the other docs are in order they will probably see that you are telling the truth.

If they are a good casino then I would think that in case of confiscating your winnings they would return at least the deposit.

I too hope i am wrong
BUT
Far too often on here with new members joining and posting about trouble with casinos/withdrawals/id etc
We find out pretty quickly that there is something suspect going on.

I started reading this and thought to myself "here we go again"

In my opinion you have no choice but to submit docs they are asking for which will show your real age.
This may cause them to raise some alarms as you lied about your age (intentional or not, it looks bad).

At the end of the day if you want your money you have to do what they ask.
Good luck

What surprises me most that he was able to gamble online in Singapore!!!! The only way you can do that is by illegally using some software/tweak/VPN etc. to work your way around the blocking tools the government has set up. Highly suspicious, to say the least

Thanks Harry for your suggestion and the said bookmaker ain't blocked in here but I won't name it in case one of their reps is around here in any shape or form.

Okay i am not going to into anything about whether you are wrong, tried to defraud casino, just made a mistake etc. as no point as theres so many of these posts.

I will just simply answer some of your questions.

1. Yes a casino or bookmakers by law has to verify all customers at some point and like has been pointed out already many will pay smaller withdrawals out but after £2300 they need to verify customer by law.

2. Yes the Verification is thorough.

3. No you will not be able to get verified without providing photographic id ie passport, driving licence that contain your real D.O.B and if you don't supply it then you have no worries about them finding your age elsewhere as your account will be closed.

4. No you cannot fight for your winnings as the casino will take it that by supplying a total random D.O.B you were either trying to defraud or hide who you were for some reason. Would be different if maybe you had just one bit slightly different as mistakes can be made whilst entering details.

5. Yes the only option you have is to explain everything to the site. Maybe they will pay you and maybe they wont. But you wont be getting paid anyway if you don't so you have nothing to lose.

6. You might get deposits returned it all depends on site and whether they believe you have tried to defraud them. Fact that you have already had a withdrawal more than total deposits might change things. Read the casinos t&cs it will explain in there what the casino normally does.

7. No the site is not looking for ways to withhold winnings as they are required to verify customers at some point. Again read the casinos t&cs that explain all this.

8. What I have posted would apply to reputable companies. As I have no idea who you deposited at then I cant say if they are reputable or not. If its some dodgy site then they use whatever damned rules they feel like. And if Harry is right and you cant gamble online in Singapore then it must be some less trustworthy site you have used.

Speak to CS first, and just tell them that you entered your Year of Birth wrong. Happened to me too, just hit the pulldown wrong, and was of by 1 year.
Have them fix it. Since there was nothing to gain for you by lying about your age, this should not be a problem.

from a news article:

It’s official: online gambling sites have been shut out as of Monday, February 2, 2015. Thanks to the Remote Gambling Act passed in October last year, gambling through remote communication — such as websites or mobile apps — has been made illegal.

Access to several hundred gambling sites has been blocked off to Singaporeans, and anyone who breaks this law may be fined up to S$5,000 and/or jailed up to six months.

A representative from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said to TODAY: “The MHA and the Media Development Authority are working with Internet service providers (ISPs) to ensure that the blocking of websites is implemented smoothly.”

The Act doesn’t just include the websites themselves — advertisements and promotions are also illegal, and any websites found with offending materials will be served notices to remove them.

According to Channel NewsAsia, regular visitors to some gambling websites found themselves unable to withdraw money that they had deposited into the sites.

The MAS has also ordered all licensed banks, card issuers, stored value facilities and operators of payment systems under the Payment Systems (Oversight) Act to block payment orders and fund transmissions from or to remote gambling services.

Hi im skeptical of such questions by nature and alarm bells ring for me with that one line above you wrote in bold.

Why would you even want to consider them simply giving your deposits back as opposed to a massive 10k win ?

I could be totally wrong here .... and if so apologize up front. But The birth date is way off. So often this kind of thing
turns out to be more than what first it seems. Like I said you could be 100% legit / and if everything you say is true.
Simply contact the bookmakers for 10k this is worth a few phone calls. Explain it to them and take it in from there.

If on the other hand they perhaps closed your account for "other" reasons not disclosed here then the outcome could be different.
As Mr Mincher said he will eat his humble pie on this (i will eat his also if im wrong )

Many thanks for the suggestion, this seems to be the right way to go. I'll contact them and take it from there . Heck worse comes to worst I'll lose my 500$ wager which is a lesson learnt!

And I wasn't banned for any other reason whatsoever. I started at 500 and climbed quickly to 10k in 2 days. Than they initially limited me to 500 wager with no prior notice and when I won again they limited me again to 50 at which I got their point they don't want me there a moment longer. I talked to their customer care and they fed me some rules bullshit which clearly I'll never buy. Couple days later I got an email from them telling me they have barred me from all emails and promotional activities which again might be on expected lines. Once I settle this business with them I'll disclose their name as well as all other details if it could be of a help to another stupid punter like me.

Well.... do come back and let us know if:

- they believed your story about the wrong DOB and changed it
- they paid you
- or they confiscated the winnings and returned only the deposit
- they still let you place bets
- and in any case tell us the name of the site

As soon as I read the glaring differences between the DOB's (IE: not even a mouse jump or biggest mis-click in the world would cause this) and then the 'don't ask' in post #1 I was very wary.

Good to see others think like this but also encouraging to see a little more info from the OP.

What I would ask is what is the reason behind 'Don't ask' from your original post at the start of this thread? - Truthfully?

There is no power in the world that can make someone believe someone unless they want to. What I meant by 'don't ask' was more like outta embarrassment and sheer stupidity. And as someone above mentioned a keyboard well I was using my iPhone and the time I created my account I literally was drunk and selecting dob on the iPhone keyboard is a revolving slider which you gents might've used too and on top of that I never ever thought that this callousness would create such problems as obviously I was never ever planning to bet seriously . But now I see how things have turned out. I know skeptics will be skeptics but this honestly is the truth. And as I'm an 30 plus year old adult why would I at all knowingly hide my age I just don't get it but I do agree that it sounds suspicious.

I do not know if your story is true or not.

But I think the only way is to submit your ID and cross your fingers.

Do not lie to the casino, you will be caught out.

I think I would submit documents and not offer an explanation until I was asked to explain it.

Heck, if I entered something wrong three years ago I probably would not be aware a discrepancy existed.

Update on the situation

YAY! I've finally received my 9218 $ after a bit of back & forth. Lets just say I provided them with the docs that they were "wanting" to see.

Thanks all for the valuable inputs, much appreciated.

Cherub666 Good to see you where paid. Congrat,s! But let me take a few here to clarify the skeptic,s here? We have had some real wopper,s of late. People whom have come on this forum and from the start we all tried to help. But that being said, the stories became very twisted and lie,s of all sort,s where told? And all of the answer,s that these previous Op,s had ask for? Where ignored and time was wasted and some stress was created. It happened more than once and I feel that until we hear all of the info we are just not very helping anymore. As the saying goes ="Once burnt Twice shy." So if it looked a bit skeptical, Chalk it up to ,not you but previous annoyance,s:)Peace Out! Out Of The Mist! shewoff
