It seems when I ask for information the majority of the responses fail to answer the question or provide helpful information. Rather, the response often is some negative comment regarding my question or request for help. I have noticed the same negative comments to other posters comments.
I don't find these types of negative responses helpful.

We are all members, I would think, to be able to ask questions, get information and assist other players/members.

Right?

I hear you footdr. It is the daily duty of some members here to continually slander others with no provocation. I have noticed a few posts and when the person retaliates, they get banned for flaming. Too many snarky comments and no help...

You could always blame it on the fact that the full moon falls in the same week as the crazy holiday season does and hopefully once the holidays are over things will become less "stressful" here on the forum...

Actually, you are right. And sometimes, when I go back and read a post I've made, I wonder if perhaps I'm being antagonistic or just plain mean.

Drink more eggnog!
:drink:

It could be that people have more time on their hands since they are sitting at home on holiday, or snowed in or something. They gut pissed off from the holiday stress (obligated to buy stuff, dealing with relatives, etc.), and then they go apeshit on someone online.

I should try that sometime :p

I think like any community there is a mix of motives and reactions. Some see this as a place for advice , some see it as a support group, some see it as us v the casinos , some see it as company, and some see it as a bit of everything. When you have that many potential mindsets and personalities some don't want to hear the advice and some do, some want support only and some are even handed either way.

Lets face it there is money at stake here and like politics that allways seems to cause emotion a degree or irrationality and strong opinions..

Overall I think a lot of people here do try to help others but sometimes that involves "tough love". A lot of the members here also have a very finely tuned radar for the questionable and this can irk.

I also sometimes wonder about being mean but usually rereading the entire thread cures that:lolup: (Umm was that a mean thing to say!-Perhaps I should quit my attempt to quit smoking day 14)

Cheers
Colly

It does seem like some people here would rather provoke fights than help others....or just make stupid comments to get peoples attention. I would guess that maybe a third of everything posted these days here is nothing more than posters barking at each other or flirting with each other or some nonsense other than casinos and gambling. It seems like the last few years you really have to search to find the meat and potatoes, whereas 5-7 years ago posters pretty much kept the discussions to gambling...

I do try to be helpful when posting. I may reply off-topic in a thread that has strayed. I may not know the answer and not reply at all. I may have missed reading a thread.

Footdr, if there's ever a thread you would like my input on, please pm me to alert me to it. Same goes for any member here.

I can't promise I can help, or that you'll like my response, but I will look to see if there's something I can offer.

Happy Holidays all.

I have assisted, and will always assist, another member who is in genuine need of help.

Good point.

One thing that turns me off helping someone is if they obviously haven't done any of their own research etc. Why should I give them some of my time when they couldn't be bothered spending any of their time.

I also have a pretty good 'BS Radar', developed from many years at this and other forums. Once it goes off, I feel it is my duty as a member to bring it to everyone's attention. It is very important that newbies don't come here and read a whole lot of cr*p that isn't true without someone presenting the facts.

Define 'slander'? Impossible on a forum AFAIK.

I too have noticed a large number of threads where a member presents a level-headed point of view and other members respond in kind. You could even say these threads were helpful to other members.

Direct response to a direct question isn't the only way to render assistance. Simply posting a little known fact or a different opinion may be very helpful to another member.

I also notice that nobody has ever been banned for presenting a level-headed, well-considered opinion at Casinomeister....this also applies to those who address the issues involved and don't make it personal. I don't think for a moment that I am perfect, but I have always tried very hard to keep my opinions factually-based and refrain from participating in libel.

Flaming usually occurs when a member has either run out of reasonable arguments, or they can't discipline themselves to behave in a civil manner. When it happens it is, and should be, dealt with swiftly.

A little bit of snark is helpful. Too much snark is not!! :D

Well I personally don't usually respond in threads where there's too much controversy or flaming etc. I also don't really respond in places where I don't have an input - like Rival threads etc, since I can't play there I don't know anything about the games or casinos. But I'm pretty free with my opinion if anyone asks for it. That's why most smart people don't ask. :D

One thing though, sometimes you make a post and it gets shoved down the list because the more controversial threads are taking up the "New posts" area and people don't really even see your question unless someone bumps it back to the top. Not many people read every thread in every section of the forum. I've actually had times where I've come in and asked a question and someone responds in a week or so, and by the time I come back in it's been bumped down again and a week later I finally realize that someone answered and then I thank the person or ask for clarification and then it gets bumped down again and I forget etc etc etc...

So I'm thinking, "oh these rude buggers won't answer my post" and they're thinking, "oh that rude b*tch didn't thank me for answering" You know?

Best thing I've found is if you don't get a response (or only unhelpful ones) is to bump your own thread. Or if there's anyone you want to get input from, send them a PM and ask, "Can you go to *this post* and respond or give me input?" I do that to Max all the time. Sorry Max.

I do think that MOST people here feel the same way. It's sometimes educational to view a situation from another persons' perspective. More times than not we all suffer from "tunnel vision" and occassionally need a slight nudge to get us back on track.

In the recent Betfair issue, CWC issue and GNUF issue, a lot of great advice has been offered. Whether a person chooses to follow or even consider and weigh what has been given to them is ultimately their choice. We can't force another person to take on our views. We can't force another to take the road we have chosen to follow. Each person needs to make their own mistakes and hopefully learn from them.

In doing so, it enlightens others who may say to themselves, "Hey, look what happened to that person, I think I'll try something different." And in doing so, perhaps we as a community can save one person from becoming a casualty.

There is a vast ocean of knowledge waiting to be tapped here. Many different experiences from every facet of the gambling world. If we apply patience and guidance to a person who is sincerely looking for answers/help, then that is something every contributing poster can be proud of.

For the ones who only want to have a pissing and feeling sorry for themself moment, think twice. You will be called out and may possibly be robbing someone who geniunely wants to be helped. Yes, some of the recent threads have turned nasty by much valued members of this forum. I hope this is just a passing phase and when the craziness of whatever is in the air clears, we can all go back to doing what we do best... Guide, teach, listen, and give a shoulder to lean on.

For those "newbies" who come here to rant and rave, ONLY to rant and rave, move on. At some point you need to take responsibilty for your actions or lack of actions, which ever scenerio may fit. These are good people, don't take advantage of their generosity by using deceptive and hidden agendas.

We all need to get back on track and start having fun again.
I hope every person here has a wonderful holiday with family and friends!
Merry Christmas all!

I agree. I won't answer if the person is taking the easy way out. That goes for any forums I visit.

For example, when I first saw the terms EV and variance the easy thing would have been to just ask, however I just Googled it.

Right?

It's a political thing. Liberals are, by nature, fact-challenged :p

NP. FWIW another good way is to use the "Report Post" feature:

Attach Removed (Old not found)

If you want to address one of us directly (although all of us behind the scenes here can see the Report Post messages) just say "Hey Max" or whatever is appropriate.
