What would you do with 425 million dollars?

If I won 425 million I'd retire, buy a farm with lots of land here in TN.. Helping out my family members is a must along with supporting many charities.

Traveling around the world would be great along with some investing on the side.

Dream on, I know. :) Gonna purchase some tickets just in case before Wed's drawing!

If I won 425 million I would buy a new house, probably here, or maybe Cyprus/Corfu, somewhere sunny :)

Buy a lot of music production equipment, write music & post it for free online.

Make sure my Mum & Dad were sorted give them a million each. Pay off my families debts.

Make sure I have a million saved somewhere so I can survive on the interest.

Whatever I had left would go on things that help the environment & the poor.

Would purchase a forest, let anyone wander and camp in it, no hunting though, hire a ranger to take care of it,make sure all the plants & animals were safe.

Hire a brilliant inventor to work on developing clean free energy. If successful give it to families all over the world for a fee which they can afford. The very poor get it for free & can pay back slowly over time with 25% of money they save no longer having to pay utility companies. If it is someone from the third world with no money whatsoever will supply it to them for free with no obligation to pay back unless they want to. Hoping the project would work because the rich would be paying full price for the energy unit which would create a profit which would pay for the costs of supplying it free to the very poor.

If I haven't been assassinated by oil barons for the above. Then help people who have no homes or food to get them, either victims from environmental disasters or people suffering from famine. I would put money into helping those people experience the same quality of life we in the west do.

I would avoid wasting money on middlemen & governments & bureaucracies to achieve the above. I would only employ those who have a good heart & are morally sound.

May have to create some sort of business as well to afford to continue to fund these projects once the money runs out.

I honestly have no idea. Never really thought about it, I'm not very lucky. :(

The only thing that comes to mind right now is tear down this house and rebuild. The same size house, I would not want a house with 84 bedrooms and 25 baths. New cars for my husband, me, and daughter who is 22 (even though her car is the shit! She probably wouldn't want another one, haha) Put away money for both my daughters, but they couldn't touch it until they were 30. Give money to a few friends and charities that I believe in. One in particular would be the greyhound charity that we already donate to.

I really can't think of anything else? I wouldn't want boats, motorcycles, trips, 5 different cars, etc. The money would probably just sit in a bank, lol.

The first thing I would do (after getting financial advisors and crap LOL) would be to donate enough to our local animal shelter to get their 'new' facility completed (which has been under construction in stages for over 10 years), and put enough into their account (with some T&C of course LOL) to make sure it stays a no-euthanize facilty... along with a portion set aside for a very low cost spay/neuter program. And maybe put a real vet onsite full time.... *sigh*.... I can dream, can't I? LOL

I have thought about what I would do if I had alot of money. Wishful thinking is fun sometimes.

First, after getting financial and legal advice of course, I would change my phone number and only give it to family and maybe one close friend. I have been in a situation where people thought I had a little money and you would be surprise who will call and want to 'borrow' money.

Then, I would make sure that my kids, grandkids, sister were taken care of.

I would buy some land and build me the kind of house that I want. I got cars so that wouldn't be on my list.

I would donate to St. Jude's and Texas Shriners Hospital for sure.

After that, probably just put it up so it would collect interest and just live off what's left.

Just to be able to do exactly what you want to do, when you want to do it would be a good thing. LOL!

what i would do?
chenge my life completly
pay my house
get a new car
put some money rendering
put my parents good in their life
make a donation to the institutions of saving childs

Anyone who says they'll donate to charity, or help the so-called "poor" is kidding both themselves and everyone else.

Remember Live-Aid in '85? Did it help anyone or solve any problems? No. It's worse now in Africa. Where did the $ go?
Into pockets of ministers, mobsters, gangs, militia, generals, etc. Only 10% went to the refugees.
Guess where the $ will go if you donate? Into a black hole. The poor will always be poor because they like it, and
they get welfare, foodstamp. Bill Gates donates millions to India's poor, thereby creating more babies to feed.

Besides, there are plenty of rich in the U.S. who could help out, but dont... it's just not your business to do so even if $425m might seem like an infinite amount of dough. As for family, yer cuzins will blow it on Vegas, bad investments, drugs, used car dealerships, etc.

I think those amounts are crazy.:eek2:

I honestly think I dont even want to win that much money.
Sounds crazy maybe, but its impossible to spend.
New house? New car? Travel around the world?
That wont be enough to even cover the first 2 months of interest the money generates.

One million would be nice, ok, 2 million..
I could buy some things, a sailingboat, and a house with a huge garden surrounded by trees.

...and bet a little higher online.:D

Let it sit there and make whatever money it could make...do what I wanted to do, when I wanted to do it.
After I'm gone, there would probably be a little bit left, to fight over, but then it's not my problem ;)
Basicly that kind of money is ultimate freedom.
I do agree with the guy who said that charities are mostly filling someone else's pockets, so if I was to go down that road (Which I know I would), I'd have to do it very directly, for some very specific things, and not through any organisations, so I would be in control of what the money would be spent on.
I also know, that some of the people I would probably want to support privately, would blow the lot, so that too would have to be done in a smart way, so it couldn't be blown in one go by them. That would really bug me. Accounts where a certain, smaller amount, would be released every year, could be an option for a "few" people.
Just because you're suddenly sitting with 400 million, doesn't mean that you ... or your family and "friends", which I'm sure there would be no lack of, have to go overly stupid ;)
It IS in fact possible to blow 400 million if you have enough willing helpers.

Then donate to a place where you KNOW what the money is being used for. Would you like a link to the place we donate for greyhounds? Or how about a link to Mouseys local animal shelter? But I'm assuming you wouldn't donate anyway, but just in case.

If you think the poor like being poor because they get food stamps/welfare, then I guess you haven't come across any REAL poor people.

Blimey, been reading a Christmas Carol Gomar?

"If they'd rather die then perhaps they had better do so and decrease the surplus population."

Bah Humbug!

I'd like to help people on a case by case basis, instead of blindly donating to charity. I'd also likely start a business and hire people. I'm a strong believer in the "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." proverb.

That said, I'd take care of family and friends and build/buy a house on a private island. I'd also buy a fair amount of physical gold and silver and store it in a safe place so if the currency/system crashes, I'd still have a bit of wealth.

what time is this drawing anyway?, I need my $305 million (after taxes). there was a financial advisor guy on the radio this AM... when I win tonite, a regular savings account paying just 2 %, will earn me over $16,000 a DAY. was nice knowing y'all. see ya in Costa Rica.:D:thumbsup:

It's really an insane thought, isn't it ?
After that, I've been thinking....maybe I'll hire someone to move my fingers for me.
