What was the point of banning bonus buys?

So it would appear our glorious online casinos are already finding ways around the bonus buy.

Lets take Jungle Jims latest game ...Jungle Jim and the lost something or other - a bit careless how they keep losing things.

Bog standard game win up to 6250x, free spins, increasing drop multiplier, blah blah blah..

However you can chose to pay 4 x your stake to start with one scatter symbol automatically.

I thought this kind of increasing spin cost rubbish was the idea of banning bonus buys.

Have to say, i am beginning to despise the world of online slots.

Oh, and while we are at it, given that Video Slots have dropped RTP's again, if the UKGC really wanted to exert some authority, how about making it that the RTP has to be displayed by law on the game load screen (such as Diamond Mine does) not buried in some help file somewhere. This would sort the chaff from the wheat........

What surprised me was, nosying around earlier to find info to do some slots reviews and noticed one of the bigger Casinos out there had not bothered with removing the feature buy, they'd just removed the games altogether for us in the UK.

Silly move IMO, all they need to do was disable it in the user end settings.

I think banning the bonus buy was a great idea. Otherwise all you have is fobtys but online, also so so dangerous to those whom can’t control themselves.
Slots don’t need bonus buys because, well they are slots.
I’d also not be bothered with a £2 cap, would certainly stop some of the insane betting we see on YouTube.

let's say you do a 20.00 bet and hit 1000x, you would win 20,000
but if you bought a bonus for 20.00 for 100x your bet and hit 1000x, you would win 200

that is why they banned it

One is staking 100 times their bet to likely win back the same as your investment, i.e 1x, like on say White Rabbit.

Too often it might seem like a decent bonus (oh look I won £8) but the fact that one spent £10 on the bonus kind of negates that :(

However on occasion it can produce results that are simply off the hook, plus who wants to play some of these games for their riveting, free-flowing gameplay....

But of course companies are wriggling around current guidelines to all but keep Feature Buys in slots, which apart from being sad and somewhat desperate, also shows disrespect to governing bodies and gamblers alike. Here's hoping some fines are in the wings

The normal play can also produce the monster though, the bonus buy was just a tool to get the punter to spend more at a faster rate imo.
Glad they are gone.

I know, just my thoughts on it in general.
Also these build up bonuses are also aweful, I just want slots basic like slots.
Perfect example is DOA2, basic as hell and blew every other game out of the water, make BTG look like amateurs.
Just want to spin and win or lose, no collecting shit or adding it up.

I think the bookies have shown the way in terms of how to get around the removal of bonus buys with their revised version of fortune spins and variants. The crazy thing is that those newer fortune spins versions are even more brutal and money gobbling then the things they replaced. I wonder how the UKGC feel about that?

I've also seen how they get around bet size limits in places like the Netherlands with these weird pie gambles where you're 99.9% likely to win and thus can build up a win balance which can then be used to place bets bigger then the minimum 20c used from your cash balance. The min bet stuff must be somewhat effective though because it's definitely not something I can be arsed to mess about with as it can take ages.

Just a further thought on this.....

If you play this on normal - ie without buying an extra scatter, you will get a tease every 15-20 spins - i.e 2 scatters - no bonus.
In no way at all is this reflective of how the game plays with the scatter buy.

A purely nasty, encouraging gimmick which is far worse than gambling a feature.
It is akin to the old days where demo games outperformed real play considerably.

The provider should be ashamed of themselves.

Considering that the big win potential sits in the bonus you have to take into account how much it costs to get that bonus round? With bonus buys in your example you lose £2,000 to get the bonus. How much would you lose before you get the bonus spinning at £20 a press? It could cost way more than £2,000 (but of course it could also only cost £20 but more likely than not it would average the same as buying the bonus)
