Heads-up is when there are only 2 players left in a tournament - typically as in Poker.
Cold Call is when you call a raise without having already put any money in the pot.

Yes 'Heads Up' is one-on-one play like KK mentioned.... but you could also give someone a 'heads up', meaning warning or alerting them to something.
Cold calling is also a poker term as KK said..... but it could also refer to sales people phoning people unsolicited in order to sell goods or products.

When I was a kid I used this term when flipping a coin to decide on something. As for your explanation I would rather they called it head-on.
