What's the bottom line for doubling when playing video poker?

I can't figure out for myself and I can't find any information on it.

I tend to always double any win that only returns the initial bet, and just collect any win that's over it.

What are the odds with doubling, and am I imagining it, or does an Ace seem to show up whenever I try to double a decent win?

:D

I do the same, but take it a bit further I double any win less then 2x my bet.
Once did a count on the famous Ace/King during a bad run. Out of 100 doublings they popped up 42 times and I lost 35, pushed 7 and lost 4 of the pushes next turn. Thats is no longer a random figure in my world.

When that is said, I have also doubled a $80 win up to $2560 but that is kinda foolish play ;)

I also wonder if a player has a chance to win or tie every doubling opportunity. In other words - when the dealer IS showing an ace, would there be an ace for a player to choose... or is it a lost cause at that point?

I tend to double all "pushes" (pairs). It tends to get incredibly streaky - I can rattle off several wins in a row, but then would be hit with that streak of aces and kings.

A poster had mentioned once that the doubling feature does not count towards the WR or for loyalty programs. I tend to doubt that - whenever I view the gaming history, those wagers I had doubled ARE included; I would think that filtering those wagers out for WR/loyalty point purposes would be more trouble than it's worth.

Doubling doesn't count towards w/r at microgaming casinos, it does at playtech.

The computer chooses 5 random cards, one of which is the dealer's. If that card happens to be an ace, there is no guarantee that any of the other cards must also be an ace.
