A source at Tribeca Tables has indicated that they will no longer accept customers from the United States. High profile US facing clients of Tribeca include Doyles Room, Golden Palace and Bowmans. Tribeca does have a large European customer base and

I'll believe this when I see it. Many Tain skins have been vocal about keeping U.S. players and Doyle's Room (and their endless skins) would almost certainly leave Tribeca if the were forced to block U.S. players.

Yes, this does seem a little unlikely having regard to their previous statements on this issue.

I've emailed their European md to asked what the position is.

Interested

If possible, I would like a link to an official statement of this gossip.

Tribeca withdrawing?? mmmm major MAJOR happening in the industry

this just in.

After discussions with its attorneys on the foreseen impacts of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, Tribeca Tables has announced that it will no longer take US based players.

We are now initiating this policy and will work closely with our customers to ensure as little harm as possible to their overall business. Commented Erik Ahlberg, president of Tribeca Tables

European managing director Steve Cook said that (it has)taken a considerable amount of time to weigh up all the options and sought a great deal of legal and market advice. Sadly we have no alternative. We have concluded that it is the best way forward for the company.

Tribeca also said it will now focus on non-US markets; however it would not be taking bets from Israel and Hong Kong players.

I'm still not sold. Someone I know close to Tain says this is not true and one of my contacts on Tribeca says it is not true and support is telling players it is not true. There are a couple of players that have posted they got emails from Doyle's today that their accounts were closed but there were specific states mentioned, Washington and Louisiana. I am not in one of those states and there are no issues on my end. As a matter of fact Doyle's still has the "Business as usual......." pop up.

I think there is more then meets the eye here. Tribeca has nothing on their site and their operators do not agree that this is happening.

Would you please be so kind to provide a link to validate this???

Or is it still pure gossip?...

If possible, from a trust worthy site or source..

I had asked support about a week ago on one of the tribecca sites if they were still taking us players and was told they were. I would want something a little bit more offical to make me think changes were a foot, at least before the PSA comes into force.

This is definitely true - I have seen the official press release (sent to us) and I have validated it with the md of European operations.

Tribecas two largest US-facing licencees are Doyles Room and Golden Palace. According to internet press reports Golden Palace has also decided to refuse taking casino bets from the US.

What a pile of BS.

Golden Palace didn't decided that... WHICH CASINO WOULD TAKE THAT DECISION..?? only reason why they've been affected is because their casino is Playtech and their poker Tribeca's.....

Some people really like to tell things the way they are not...

You're hard to please, but here you go. As I said I have personally validated this with Steve Cook, the md for European operations - you'll just have to take my word for that:

THE TRIBECA POKER NETWORK ANNOUNCES THEIR WITHDRAWAL FROM THE US MARKET

London, November 10th Following a long period of consultation with its gaming attorneys, Tribeca Tables Europe, Limited, the online poker solutions company, has announced that the company has decided to withdraw its poker room from certain territories; specifically the US, Israel, and Hong Kong markets.

Tribeca will endeavour to assist its US facing clients in particular with the transition as much as possible. However in light of the recent introduction in the US regarding the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 and in line with most other responsible networks and poker operators, the company will focus on more non US territories and new markets.

Erik Ahlberg, new President of Tribeca Tables said, We are now initiating this policy and will work closely with our customers to ensure as little harm as possible to their overall business.

Steve Cook, European managing director added, The board have taken a considerable amount of time to weigh up all of the options and sought a great deal of legal and market advice. Sadly we have no alternative. We have concluded that it is the best way forward for the company.

Tribecas portfolio of brands still includes many European facing brands such as Sporting Index, Paddy Power, Blue Sq, Victor Chandler, and with the recent merger with Tain, the addition of Expekt.com and its other skins.

The company also intends to make a further announcement regarding its poker network in due course. For further information please contact: moreinfo@TribecaTables.com

Whatever the reasoning, the effect is that they (Golden Palace) are placed in the position of having to make far-reaching changes due to these UIGEA developments and consequences like Playtech and Tribeca (among others) reversing out of the US market.

Back to Tribeca

Looks like Tribeca need to sort out what they are going to say before they draft their press releases - the following has just been received from Tribeca Europe's managing director as an addendum to their press release posted earlier in this thread:

QUOTE:

Erik Ahlberg, president of Tribeca Tables issued a clarification regarding the policy of players from other territories, specifically Israel and Hong Kong stating that individual operators will continue to make their own decision regarding players from those territories based on their License and company policy.

UNQUOTE

So that looks as if they're going to insist on licensees barring US players, but that they can make their own decisions regarding Israel and Hong Kong.

Why are Israel and Hong Kong singled out, I wonder? Poker Addict - any thoughts?

These two countries have a reputation for an extremely high level of player fraud in online casinos and poker.

Fraud is the only thing I can come up with too. There are several poker rooms based in Israel though so it may be some sort of industry issue. There are a few sites that ban players from Israel. I've never known of a poker room banning players from Hong Kong though.

This probably exoplains it:

This probably explains it:

LONDON (Reuters) - Gambling software maker Playtech said on Monday it had agreed to buy part of rival Tribeca Tables Europe for $75 million (39 million pounds) in a company-transforming deal.

The deal brings with it a number of Internet gambling sites currently operating on Tribeca's software platform, including VCPoker, PaddyPower Poker, Blue Square Poker and Scandinavian group, Expekt.

Playtech (PTEC.L: Quote, Profile, Research) said the deal was in line with its strategy of extending its geographical reach, after the United States effectively banned online gaming at last month.

"This is a landmark deal for Playtech, which in one move, transforms the company into the world's leading poker network that excludes U.S. players," said Playtech Chief Executive Avigur Zmora.

Playtech also announced third-quarter income from non-U.S. players increased to 53 percent from 49 percent a year earlier.

"On the basis that the company (Tribeca) will generate about $16 million over the coming year from the migration date, the consideration to be paid for Tribeca will be $75 million," Playtech said in a statement.

"The maximum consideration that the company will be liable to pay is $139 million, which will be paid in the event that the revenue generated from this acquisition exceeds $29 million over the coming year from the migration date," it added.

Playtech shares closed at 190 pence on Friday, valuing the group at around 407 million pounds.

Playtech has expanded on its original statement a little, which I think sheds more light on this. Avigur Zmora says:

"For the next 30 days, Playtech has the option of picking the parts of Tribeca's infrastructure that it wants to continue operating.

"One of the companies is in the Philippines, which produces the front end -- the look and feel (of websites)," he said.

"That's a very cheap subsidiary and we need it," Zmora added. "Everybody wants more languages, and different feel for different countries. Most probably we'll pick that."

"The other subsidiary is in India, with 120 programmers, and I think we won't take that," he said.
