Hello everyone,

to continue the discussion I would like to share with you my small article about addiction. I'm glad to any feedback ;)

To what are you addicted?

We are told what we should do since our childhood. Don’t watch movies for the whole night – you will be addicted to TV! Don’t eat it too much, you can be anorexic or bulimic. Now we are all scared to be addicted. For example, I really enjoy baseball – but I am told to play less because my friends are feared I can have only baseball instead of usual necessary things in life. I love chocolate, but I can’t eat it even in bits – what if I have addiction and then I am not able to stop!? When you open any psychology site, you often see: «Your addiction destroys you! » and below: new article about regular thing, that one day will kill us. We can’t be as free as we used to be.

Wise men said: expand your perspective, don’t allow to manipulate yourself, keep your mind safe! The point is here: we are not scared of the consequences of beloved passions, we are scared just to be addicted! We are told we can be out and we somehow caught it! But the devil is not so black as he is painted, do you agree with that?

Popular psychology article says: everyone has an addiction nowadays. But then…So what? We all need oxygen to breathe – and this is not a huge problem, we need it to be alive! Also, lots of people don’t perceive or imagine their life without being with friends. Are they addicted? Or just need friends to be happy with?

Let’s face the subject: if addiction doesn’t destroy you, doesn’t make you feel bad, it is not even an addiction. It is just your fear, that was planted in your mind by people who tried to overcontrol you.

Now if you do what you enjoy to do, why should you be stopping?

When you try to analyze yourself whether you have an addiction, it’s instantly coming to you. If you have propensity to something, it does not mean that you are an addict.

You should stick to what you love! Remember, you are independent! Those who condemn you - they are in turn dependent on other people's opinions, on the stupid fears, on outdated beliefs!

I think if we all start looking wider to see better and accept ourselves in our special way of living, our life will be painted with all the bright colors we can possibly imagine!

Just take it: you are not addicted whether you are not feared to be addicted.

I was addicted to gambling and thank to god now I only play casino games for free like xxxxx and so and also play real games like Warcraft and so.

Nothing.... I can take it or leave it. Although I believe everyone needs a vice......and one should always be replaced with another!

There is a bit of a grey area between 'habit- forming', 'doing things we enjoy' and outright addiction. So eg, I gave up smoking and took up vaping, I play video games when not gambling etc.

Addiction can be easily undone. Just call it something else!:cool:

I am totally addicted to curry and Tayto cheese and onion crisps (Tayto is an Irish brand). I love the chip shop curry, Thai Red curry and lots of other curries. I am also addicted to pasta. I guess there are worse things a person can be addicted to:)

Im addicted to raisin bran cereal and sea food.

Slots? It would be curious to see how addicted I am or if I am at all if I was to take a break for a month after playing almost every day for many hours for over a year.

Before in my possible quitting thread I said I wasnt addicted. It may have changed now but I seriously dont know

Tayto cheese and onion crisps (Tayto is an Irish brand).

I live in Ireland for a couple of years now and I hate them.
They are full of MSG and other additives and should not be sold to be honest. :p
My wife loves them too.

For me there are thank God, Walkers crisps without any f*cked up substances like MSG.

On topic, I am addicted to Chocolate, again not the stuff you get in Ireland like Cadbury (fake chocolate) but brands like Lindt and Cote d'Or and I love my coffee and a cigaret now and then however trying to quit those!

Furthermore I am kinda addicted to World of Warcraft (Game) and chicken wings.

Buffalo chicken wings and beer; God's own creation:p Best combo ever!

I'm addicted to smoking. I admit it unfortunately. I'm so used to smoking that it's very difficult for me to imagine how I can live without it if I quit smoking. I smoke when I'm nervous, I smoke after eating, I smoke while talking on the phone, I smoke when I walk down the street, I smoke when I rest after work ... Now I listed everything and was horrified! .. That is, smoking is a necessary attribute of my life, an accompanying element. And when they deprive me of the opportunity to smoke for one reason or another, I have nowhere to put myself. Emptiness is formed around me, which I urgently need to fill in with something. And there is nothing to fill and I'm beginning to suffer. Actually here it is a real dependency!

Alcohol! However have not touched a drop since September 7th 2016! One day at a time.

I have an addictive personality and get bored very easily (not a good trait for a computer software developer) so probably borderline slots too now!

Money

As in not having any.

I'm very addicted to that Yes - And iI do it so well

My other half would appreciate it if I maybe gave up this addiction and replaced it with addicted to saving Money. I dunno so much...

I'm a typical Piscean, and although I've never stuck a needle in my arm, I have at some stage been strung out on every other vice known to man.

Now into my second half-century, I find that the years have mellowed me to the extent that I can exercise self-control in every situation. Although, to be on the safe side, I daren't keep more money in the bank than I need to.

Coffee - well cappuccino to be exact!

I used to smoke, woke up one day and decided to stop and never looked back, I just quit cold turkey.

As to slots, probably was my guilty pleasure for a while rather than an addiction but it turns out I am pretty unlucky there so taking a long break from any further deposits, which I don't find difficult so maybe I just don't have an addictive personality :)
