Hey thatnks folks for the tips- One more quick question if you don't mind. If you have two pair on the turn (or even on the flop, but miss the turn card,) and there is a pair on the board,(without a possibility of a flush), would call heavy raisers and reraisers? or fold? I've Been stung a few times, but don't really know if in the long run it's worth the calling to see the river.

Edit: Turned that 2400 into 3500 today- still got a ways to go before I stop getting suckered into betting so so hands though, but I'm getting better at folding cards I didn't used to

I'm not quite sure of the question, but I'm sure the answer is "it depends".

I'd suggest you get "Winning Low Limit Holdem" by Lee Jones. It's a good beginner book and judging from your questions, it will more than pay for itself.

Yeah I need to pick one up. I got a pretty decent free ebook which I've picked up a few pointers called propoker. I've just gotta psend more itme reading it- too busy playing lol. I'll check that book out though, thnaks

OK for the question.

You know there isn't going to be a possible flush for anyone on the river card, you hold 2 pair, and there is a pair on the board before the flop. You just know that if you call a bet that youre gonna get reraised heavy. Do you keep going for it? or fold? (The pair on the board is lower than your high pair)

Board has:

9s-5h-8c-5d

You hold:

9d-8d

The answer is still "it depends".

What you have here is a good flop gone bad.

You would need to determine based on what you know about your opponents and the preflop/flop action to figure out what your opponents may have.

If there was lots of preflop action (you probably should have folded your 89 before the flop anyway in that case) and someone gave you heavy action on the flop after you raised it, you may be up against a big pocket pair. In that case the 55 on board has counterfeited your two-pair, so you'll need an 8 or 9 to win -- not good.

On the other hand if there was the typical low-limit limping going on preflop, then some decent flop action, you may be up against something like A9, A8, or K9 and your hand is still the best.

If there was limping then REALLY heavy duty flop action, I'd start worrying about one of your opponents having 67.

If the flop action was weak then someone got all excited at the turn, I'd start worrying about some A5 idiot.

Still... in most low-limit games I would definitely try to see the river here on the assumption that my two pair was still the best hand. But unless you're pretty sure your opponent has A9 or something, I'd just check/call, not raise any more.

Yeah definately low limit- where people with 2- even though they see the 5-5 up there will be betting heavy thinking the turn and river will help them. But thne I guess ya gotta figure out wether the guy- or couple of people- got excited because he has a 5 or because he thinks he's got 2 more chances to get 3 of a kind.

I've been trying to find rooms where everyone isn't raise happy & when I do, it'll be good for about an hour or so & you really get a good feel for those you're playing against, but then 1 or 2 people will show up and just keep raising everything & pretty soon, everyone raises anythign they get & it really throws me off of what people are actually holding likely.

Holding 2 pairs is a tough one for me & I seem to get stung alot with it when the betting gets wild.
