The Queen is dead - long live the King

I might be a lone voice here but : yes sad when anyone dies - yes end of an era - but now we are to be plunged into some kind of collective grief for the next 2 weeks. The news will become incessant with nothing other than coverage of HMs passing. Yes I get it - it is big news. But still some of the scenes showing on the media outside BP and other Royal residences borders on hysteria with the way people react.

Sure give HM a dignified send off - but society to grind to a halt for the foreseeable is seeing me get on another plane back to the Canary Islands where Im currently holidaying. Im dreading flying back in on Saturday night - so may well look for a quick return flight to a country free of grief. This has ominous shades of when Diana was killed in her RTA.

Just saying ...

There are quite a few VR boxes but these tend to be smaller ones in walls, mainly in big cities.
Royal Mail add very few boxes annually unless a new estate of houses is built which require one. You've got a few VR around; East Claydon, Aylesbury Station etc....
You can tell who the nerds are in this forum. Post box spotting nerds.

Never seen a 50, usually only Scottish pound notes at a push; is that what being rich looks like :p
That's the older paper one - I have 4 of those with consecutive numbers, mint, unfolded which I kept to sell one day.

They came from my first Meistermeet back in 2014 when I went up the Hippodrome or Empire? and won a jackpot game on a Novomatic cabinet.

The BBC have put together an interesting article here

which goes into detail about what will happen with regards the 'Royal Rebranding'.

I haven't bought an actual newspaper for what seems time immemorial, but today I will be making an exception, that is if there are any left. Something to keep and hand down to my kids and their kids. As this is a monumental moment in modern British History unfolding.

I managed to grab a copy of The Mirror today, and immediately placed it into a never-used darkened cupboard, the paper in pristine condition. Not actually sure what to do with it, but it is certainly a "once in a lifetime" newspaper worth keeping, even if modern technology allows future printings.

Also i will be no longer taking part in Casinomiester forum or posting on here again...dont want anything to do with any site who has anything about the royal family...and I'm disgusted with the whole business which is OTT and I dont think Casinomiester should have put any tribute on here.

A bit over the top surely? I am not a royalist at all but recognise the service the Queen delivered for the Country over the past 70 years and if people want to remember that on their website, then surely they should be able to do so?

And why mix politics with the death of a person? Maybe some respect may be called for.

A good chunk of our membership is from the UK - a majority of our traffic is from the UK and the commonwealth. If I were to NOT give condolences or have a thread where people can discuss this would have NOT been acceptable to ME.

This is MY site - not some corporate black hole that does what the puppetmasters say. This is me. So if you don't like me giving condolences - or using the "we" form of giving condolences referring to my staff (which can be counted on both hands), well that sounds like a bit over the top from your end.

Lest you forget, this is a community, and there is always something affecting us big and small. You should have been here during 911 when 70% of our traffic was US, or the early remembrance days of 911. I even shut this site down for that.

So run around and be offended. I don't care.

I'm not a blind royalist, though sometimes I think they'd do a better job than our elected reps, but still respect the Queen, for all her years of dedication and providing the nation [uk] with a sense of stability and traditition.

To leave a forum because of a condolences/tribute thread, what else are you going to do, never read a newspaper again or watch any of the main tv channels because they've featured lots of tributes and coverage etc..

Some football matches and sport events have been postponed, it's not the end of the world, they'll be back.

No bloody football this weekend...Roll on indyref2....and a republic with a president like Ireland has got....completely disinterested in Royals
Boxing and several other sporting events too. Whether you like it or not, in the UK the Queen has been our head of state for 70 years and is being afforded the respect that that position deserves. Even Putin has sent his condolences!!

As for IndyRef 2. See you in 20 or so years as Scotland voted no only 8 years ago and a pretendy ref is not the same thing!

BTW are you jettisoning your use of all english news sites too, to include the SNP supporting The National? Don’t look at their site you may be offended! ( Great big picture of King Charles currently above the fold on their home page! )

I remember when these came out and i was over in Scotland/England - presenting it and the guy in the shop going (it was plastic IIRC?): 'This is fake, it has a rocket on it and it feels weird'

Im no Royalist at all but to take such offence and dump a forum ... well your choice. I can respect other peoples pov and feelings even if I dont agree with them. Freedom of speech is a must - even on things we may find personally offensive. I have no issue at all with CM placing a tribute - infact expected it. Whats the problem ? I dont see one - just a different opinion.

To be fair the spiteful, sniping, republican-lefty types have generally ignored this thread, which when I posted it I hoped they would. If you've nothing pleasant to say, don't say anything. Walk on by.

As for the Scotland issue, the disgruntled fool who moaned about this thread earlier wants to check his facts. In the event of Scottish Independence, the monarch will remain head of state, as they are now. Ask Wee Jimmy, she's mentioned it enough times and it was part of their policy back in the 2014 indyref and still is.

He must still be seething having heard Sturgeon's tribute to the Queen.
