And then there are the mail boxes. It's a small side hobby of mine to mentally note the old red postal boxes. Most of which are marked with E R II, but it's always interesting spotting ones with GR or ER VII. I've always hoped to spot a VR - those are pretty rare I suppose. There are quite a few GR boxes around where I am at at the mo'.

Now the new ones will have C R III. Traditions and regalia can be fascinating.

So is anyone 'brave' enough to go up to London on Monday or indeed this week to join the horrendously long queues to be able to file past the Queen's coffin while she lies in state prior to the funeral?

A friend of mine has gone up this morning, in the hope to see the funeral cortege travel from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster this afternoon.

Me, no fear. I was working in Camden during the week after Princess Diana died and we went to Kensington Palace on one of the evenings. Far far too many people. Not for me.

I'm about 23 minutes away via express trains to Marlybone station, but no thank you. I don't need to get lost in a sea of people. Plus I have a puppy with me. So I will just be satisfied with BBC 1.

There are still road closures and some tube issues as well. Plus the amount of security and other mayhem prevention aspects of this lends me to think watching it on the telly is the best way to watch this.

It is bad enough being kettled by the police after attending a big sporting event ( Froch Groves II at Wembley was a nightmare getting out of! )

But the crowds in London this week will be on another level.

Well yesterday was just amazing I have to confess and what a send off. Although I am now extremely pleased we can now get back to some kind of normality after the past 11 days.

Apart from on Friday 9th September when all newspapers were sold out by the time I managed to get out, I have been able to pick up a paper every subsequent day, to include this morning. On some days I bought two titles, with the Mirror being picked up every day. I have also purchased a document case to keep them preserved in.

Something for my kids to show their own kids when they are older. As what we have just gone through is truly historic.

I have the Denver Gazette newspaper from 11 Nov 1918 framed and hanging on the wall "The Hun Defeated!" it says. It's pretty cool. Especially the want ads and some of the local stories. One of which reports on a man in a restaurant who was tired of standing for the National anthem and sat down throughout to eat his meal. It could have happened a century later.

But back to the Queen's funeral. This is what I wrote in yesterday's newsletter:

This weekend has been something else. I'm about a 20 minute drive away from Windsor, and we were tempted to drive out to see the Queen's funeral procession, but we figured we'd end up stuck in traffic somewhere. So we opted to watch the Queen's funeral on the telly, and were fixated to it for the entire day.

One thing I have to say, the British have something to be very proud of. I don't think anyone or any country could have topped the farewell that the British gave their Queen. The military send-off was both mesmerising and at times extremely moving (cue the solo bagpiper). Wow, just wow.

I still have Beethoven's Funeral March as an Earworm stuck in my head. Time to turn on Spotify. lol
