The Moral of my story....Dont give up

Im so proud of myslef . Two of my teeth were too far gone to fix and needed to be extracted. I was in tremendous pain and didnt eat solid food for the past 3 days. I called 7 dentists all of which wanted$250- $360 per tooth! Noone would accept me without insurance and I was in pain and very frustrated.

I picked out a few that I had called and found websites for them so I could get an email addy. I emailed them along with 3 pics of my teeth so they can imagine the pain I was in and told them that if they were human they would help me out of this pain and take payments until it was paid off. I told them I didnt want a free ride, just payment arrangements.

This morning I got a call from one of the places. I went in and they took xrays, It was bad and I needed 3 long needles of novacane and 3 stitches besides the extractions. Guess what they charged me? $5

I got home and 3 more dentists left messages to help me. I offered to pay more but they wouldnt take any more. They did a great job and want me to come back to fix the rest so I dont lose those, at $5 per visit!!.

If you need something bad enough, frustration and a little imagination can get you very far in life.

I myself have been having a really bad tooth problem, which has gotten to the point that it is literally poisoning me. I had gone 4 months ago to have it extracted. I am on federal and state insurance because I am permanently disabled. When I arrived then to have it extracted. They told me the state insurance had been interupted, so the federal insurance would not pay for it. They wanted $330. to pull it. (I did not have the money.)
The oral surgeon wanted me to get antibiotics from my primary, but my primary refused saying it was the oral surgeon who had to prescribe them.

Here comes the good part (NOT!)
Two weeks ago it had gotten to the point where it was so badly abcessed I had fevers and was physically sick. I had no problems with my insurance since then so .. I went back to the same oral surgeon to have it extracted. They took X-Rays and gave me about 6 shots of novacaine all the while telling how much better I would feel once this tooth was out and drained.
Once I was all numbed up. The front desk person came back in and said again that "there was a problem with my state insurance and the federal would not pay for an extraction! I was shell shocked. (she did have 2 or 3 days from the time I made the appointment until I got there to have it pulled where she could have made sure the insurance would cover it this time)

I looked at her and said "Please ask him to do 1 random act of kindness and get this tooth out! The money is already in the novacaine and xrays.. please!"

NOPE....... I am still walking around with that tooth! (I did tell my primary when this happened. she took a look and I she did put me on antibiotics, 4 a day for two weeks!)
BUT I will now spend tomorrow making sure the insurance is straight (again) and contacting oral surgeons. Maybe I can get so lucky!

I myself only play with 20 bucks here or there, and only if I can afford it. Most of the time I play free tourneys at 3dice. So I think this is an assumption on your part that babs plays with hundreds of dollars.

Great news and yes there are a few great places out there that do help some of us in need that arent just looking for as some say a free ride. One time as i was finishing schooling and kids in mid teens i had a sick cat called around from me telling them what was wrong on the phone they said 400 for visit alone. Well as we all know for some was just out of reach. I called this one place said plse dont worry about it let us look first. When push came to shove they did look they did help and my fee for them was the 15 dollars registration to have her put down.
She had taken that am a massive heart attack and it took her left side. Im in tears kids handled much better then i did vet made me a coffee told me drop the money off next week or when i could to pick up the papers. And i also in my line of work try and help I charge no more then a cup of coffee to discuss and advise what agenda someone should take for legal advice. Cant offer more as when you work for a firm its the firm that charges the clients and your bonded to them in the courts.

This is a little harsh in my book - I too have a dental problem and I play too - I have a big problem paying a dentist 800.00 for a crown on 1 tooth when a whole set of dentures cost a little over a 1000.00. I think Babs point was coming up with the whole amount at once was not in the budget and was shopping to find one that will take payments. I still think your post was way out of line.

I dont deposit $800 at a time. And for your information, gambling is in my budget, which is about $10 a day in which I usually make up with a win once a month or more. My disposable income can be used any way I want it. Some people have kids to buy stuff for, some people go out to dinner a couple times a week, I have medical insurance and pay cash for my very expensive meds every month. Again, I wasnt looking for a free ride or "charity" as you call it. I was looking to make payments because I dont use credit cards. Do you pay full price cash for EVERYTHING you have like your home , cars and other major purchases? Good for you if you have that kind of money, I dont! Ohhhhh and BTW, I gave them my bank statements which have the casino deposits on it so I wasnt hiding anything

You are more than welcome my friend. We are both pretty much one in the same. (gamble a little here and there and have fun while we do it) But then again maybe Aminair is correct with one thing. You can always walk into the emergency room with a tooth ack and it will be taken care of also.You don't need a dentist for it.
People come in for a band-aid and this is crazy.Waste of time to help the one's that need it most.
But it's our job to help others even if it's for the stupid things.
If your in any type of pain go to the emergency room and we will fix you up.
Pain can never wait for a fix.

Some states they will only give you something for the pain and tell you to call the dentist when you get home.

Yup, I am in one of those states..lol. But thank god for people like you.
I myself was a vet tech. I loved helping animals, and no matter how vicious they were.. they seemed to know who was there to help them.
I could never be a human nurse or doctor. People tend to B*#@* too much

i talked to our sweet dear babs today and boy she sounded rough, my conversation with babs....hey babs, how ya feelin.......babs trying to talk....ruhrruhrruhhrrhu and something that sounded like i have a tiger under my bed lol..............told her to take care no smoking or using a straw so she wont get dry sockets,i hear its painful, so no smoking for you babs, put out that cig now!!!!.......................laurie.......get well soon...........

Oh Babs you poor thing!! I hope you feel better soon hon! and Lauriejim is right babs! :nod: You really don't want dry sockets. (but for anyone who might happen to get them I once had a dentist put oil of clove on a small piece of gauze in the socket and MAN did it feel better! )

Hope your feeling better babs. Try some teatree oil on the tooth and gums it freezes it taste horrid but does work. Pop a pain pill geesh at times i take them like m and m candies when it hurts that bad. Keep us posted get some rest.

i had to get a tooth pulled due to the frist dinist messing up big time. it was so bad that they showed the x-ray around the office laughing about how bad it was and this was the same place that i had the frist one done at diffdent guy and the guy who did the job that was messed up slap my hand away when i tryed to stop him caz it hurt so much. i was young so did,nt hit him back but anyway they had to pull the tooth out and they went so deep my bone in my jaw was exposed it hurt so bad i would have taken any kind of drug to stop the pain and i don,t take anything if i,m not dieing well anyway went back after a week of killer pain and he put oil of clove on it and the pain was gone just like that. so if it hurts 2 bad use that

Poor Laurie, she couldnt understand one word I was trying to say. THanks so much for calling me. She would say "aha" "aha" and I know she didnt know what the hell I was saying cause my husband couldnt LMAO

I still cant open my mouth big enough to eat food yet but Im talking a little better but try not to talk because it hurts. The reason is because it took 3 long needles when most only need one needle. The swelling is going down. It looks like its healing well but because of my Fibromyalgia, its going to take a little longer than usual.

I cant wait to eat but atleast Im losing weight faster than expected lol. After this past week or more I dont think Ill be eating pudding for awhile lol. My mouth opens big enough for the small end of a teaspoon so far.:eat:

I wanna thank you guys for all of your support, honestly. You are family to me and it does make a difference when ppl show they care Now, someone gimme a fat juicy burger right now!!!!

I dont know what Im gonna do now. Rich has the car and that place isnt open for dental on fridays. Im in more pain than before. I was having a nice time with the puzzle thread and all of a sudden all this blood is coming from my mouth. I go to the bathroom and its the frikin tooth above they one they took out. I cant believe I just fell asleep!

I gotta figure something out, i prolly wont be posting today because Im a serious wreck. Im gonna try not to talk cause I talked too much yesterday

I feel for ya Babs... I had all my teeth pulled and got dentures a few years back, after years and years of pain... It cost me over $7000.00 and I had to pay it all up front before they would even touch my mouth. This is the real topper... I had top of the line private medical insurance, with dental coverage. They just didn't cover Extractions or Dentures or Drugs or anything else I needed.

By the by folks - Don't be too hard on the Europeans, for the most part, they have no idea what kind of really truly horrible medical system we have here in the USA.

The Europeans were smart and did not let the Corporations take over their medical systems (and government), like we have allowed them to do here. The Corporations have squeezed every penny they could out of peoples misery and pain, here in the good ole USA.

I think thats why I was so upset with that post. The poster was from England and IF im correct from watching Sicko. They get full coverage as well as Italy cuba, turkey, greece ,France, Canada, and lots of other countries.

We are marked #43 as far as health care for people in the book of countries with the best healthcare. 43!!! we are just under some romanian country.

If anyone is interested in the stats or how the US compares to other countries, I recommend you watching that documentary whether you like Michael or not. Do you know (i cant spell this im sorry) Guantanimo Bay has the best healthcare for the POW's (terrorists) Most of you know those inhalers for severe asthma right? THe ones that are $150 here. Guess what they cost in Cuba? 15 cents!!! Yes you are reading this right. Ok enough, If I continue I wont stop. Just watch it and youll see. You know......France is a great country who take care of their people. No wonder they look and feel healthy and live so long!

Ooops. Just one more thing (sorry) Did you know the poorest homeless man in South America is healthier than the Richest man in the USA? Even if that American has health insurance

Canada's Health care system does not, for the largest part, cover dental care. You might get an antibiotic prescribed (also, prescriptions not covered in most provinces) at the dr's office or ER, and the advice to see your dentist. Also, many dentists require payment up front, even from those folks with private dental insurance.
