Hey guys,

If anyone's around at the mo and fancies popping by to give me some opinions, I'm nearing completion on Version 1 of the "Game Buddy". Initially devised for the new Slots competitions we're starting next week, I'm kinda thinking this may just be quite fun for anyone playing in fact. Its comprises a chat room called "The Pit" along with various stats and tools, like a "clipboard" for sharing screenshots as you play etc. No password or registration required...just pop on in.

It's got sounds, several skins and various config options plus you can display to everyone the game you're playing at the time.

Check out: Link Removed ( Old/Invalid) - I'll probably be there a lot over the next few days as i tweak, so anyone who fancies stopping by and givinng me feedback or ideas, be my guest (literally!) :D

Will it work for me?

Will it work on Windows 98SE?
Many of the "buddy" application seem to start at 2000. I have a Windows XP PC, but it's for my Mum, and I only have it to set up for her (as in install my casinos so I can log on while visiting:D ). I have found that MG casinos behave just as badly on this new VIRGINAL PC, straight out of its box, no real chance of degraded OS, spyware etc destabilising the casinos. I would buy another for myself, but I'm in no hurry if it does not seem likely to get my casinos working any better - I'll wait for the sales after Christmas.

Simmo, what an awesome idea...now if only I were playing somewhere, lol. Will definitely use it when I can though.

LOL. Well it only needs Internet Explorer and Flash so in theory yes :D It may even work in other browsers - but that would be more luck than judgement at this stage! You may struggle with Windows ME on a 3" portable though ;)

I found a really neat little ActiveX control that allows you to paste a screenshot directly from the ALT+Print Screen function into the Game Buddy and upload without having to go through all that image editing/resizing/Saving crap too :)

Takes about 5-10 minutes to install (it's a digitally signed control) but works like a charm. No more "how do upload a screenshot" questions needed (yeah we'll see on that one!) :D I integrated it last night if anyone wants to test-drive it. Has a nag screen on it but not too much of a hindrance and if the whole Game Buddy thing is successful, i'll register it.

Wow, I'm drooling over this idea. Keep tabs on the others... Excellent idea!

Are you going to have some kind of leaderboard, while the monthly tournament is proceeding? You may have mentioned something about this, but I'm not quite sure.

Again, great work merging two seperate casino brands (kinda-sorta) for this tournament.

Yup - the Game Buddy has Top 3 leaderboards for every tournament, plus there's a public RSS feed ready to roll on Slotjunkies.info ("Latest News") which shows new claims and new competitions as they are posted. The Player Lounge shows complete leaderboards for each game and I also have a "Hall Of Fame" script nearly done which will come in at the end of Month 1 (assuming there is a month 2!).

The Game Buddy "clipboard" where users upload shots as they play will also integrate with the "Claim" option in the Player Lounge so you can convert clipboard posts to claims after each session.

Its pretty much complete now at www.slotjunkies.info/launchgamebuddy.php. I just need to find a Delphi guy who can create a simple software skin for it so i can make it downloadable to the desktop.
:D

I'd B juzta Chillin'

Feedback: I like the "Chillaxing" option, when I'm too busy just chillin'... It's about time somebody thought of something like that. You know, it's the subtle things that enrich our lives. And let me tell you, hitting the "Game Buddy" room with its picturesque backdrop, reminds me of the getaway I just don't have time for these days (all bundled-up in my tiny Korean apartment).

Uploaded a shot and it was so easy no messing about:thumbsup:

Cool I can see it fine :) I also see you installed the ActiveX control so it should remember this whenever you log in and give you the Paste Panel ;) Was the install easy enough? I tried to automate it logically but the proof of the pudding as they say... How long did it take to install V?

Simmo!

It only took about 5 mins to install which I thought was a long time but compared to taking a shot ,saving it ,resizing it ,looking for it and posting it so it is time well spent

A small problem is I cant see it in my browser add ins

Game Buddy v2

Version 2 of the Game Buddy is now live and integrated into the Casinomeister/Slot Junkies Tournament site. Alternatively it can be launched from www.slotjunkies.info/launchgamebuddyv2.php.

It adds the following functionality:

  • Additional competition statistics
  • Ability to switch round Chat display
  • Integration of Flash casinos from game sponsors
  • Flash casino "Screenshot" switch (fullscreen/normal)
  • Extended Screenshot Clipboard
  • Built in web browser popup link
  • Links to casino homepages & selected external links (ie CM!)

Let me know if you find any bugs. Note: it's Internet Explorer only. Now...on to version 3 :D

Cheers

Nice job Simmo!

Don't know if this was intended, but when I switch resolutions from 1024x768 to 800x600, the casino swaps sides with the chat window... haven't tried higher resolutions yet.

Personally, I like v2 :)

Thx Spear. Yeah i noticed that - i'm trying to fix it :) I've got a function on the windows.resize event that causes it when you resize. Minor bug i guess.

Added the Digitally Imported/Sky radio streams to the Game Buddy today too in a bid to indulge the Meister :D
