Essentially Disney - who own Marvel - are discontinuing and phasing out all branded slot agreements because they aren't in keeping with their 'family friendly' image.

Key quote: ""Marvel discontinued plans to initiate or renew slot machine licensing arrangements as part of its integration with Disney,"

I know it's talking about land based casino branded slots, but I suspect it will apply online as well. Depending on the length of current licensing agreements, it may take a while for the Marvel slots to disappear, though.

I completely understand and figured as much when Disney took over Marvel (i'm a comic geek - shocker!)

I'd love though for some other franchises to get into slots. I mean, Hanna Barbera (kids aside) would be awesome..Scooby Doo, Jetsons, stuff that doesn't so much resonate with today's youth, but us who are adults and remember the shows.

I have been a fan of US and British comics since I were a kid but the Marvel brand always seemed inferior to brands like DC comics. Perhaps the characters weren't as entertaining or the cartoons weren't overly impressive. I noticed at Guts that there are Superman, Green Lantern and Flash slots. Anyone tried them yet?

I'm a comic geek, too, Dionysus. I'm not sure I've ever really recovered from the death of Jean Grey (in the comic book, around 1980) to be honest.

A Jetsons slot would be awesome, though.

As for the Disney/Marvel thing - I've always found it surprising that any of the comic book/movie franchises got turned into slots, but I'll definitely miss the X-Men slot and the Avengers slot, and...etc...etc...

Theyve been around quite some time - not much a fan.
DC is owned by Warner Bros/Time Warner, and have always (compared to Marvel) been more 'adult' in nature. Shame they havent made better games.

I found the new releases to be pretty weak, and they split the franchise, making 2 sets of crappy games (Playtech, and top of my head, can't recall the other)....could have been so much more.

cryptologic (now Amaya) is the other.
We also offer most of them and so far, we haven`t heard anything about phasing them out yet. The reason why there are 2 different suppliers is that PT owns the rights to the movies while Crypto owns the rights to the comics.

Another fine reason why I should bookmark more often. What I read a while back indicated Disney while it may foster the "family" image, its subsiduries and other corporate connections are heavily into what it's trying to disconnect itself with here. I understand the idea of keeping the Disney Brand clean but if they are about good morals, clean living etc. etc., surely being upfront, insteads of trying to make this look like an accident or oversight, is in keeping with this moral high ground.
