The Burj Dubai Tower ~ Approx. 1/2 mile tall!!

The Burj Dubai Tower opened today in Dubai which is a city in the emirate of Dubai, part of the United Arab Emirates in the Gulf region of the Middle East.

This building is unfreaking real as far as height goes. When you stand in the observation deck of the Sears Tower in Chicago and look down, the cars looks like matchbox cars! I imagine you would almost have to use field glasses in the observation deck of the Burj Dubai tower to even see the cars at street level.

The final height of the building has not been revealed and is being kept secret for competition reasons, but it is believed that the tower is over 800 meters, or over 2700 feet tall. One of the major challenges the designers had to overcome was the effect of wind loading and building motions due to the extreme height of the tower.

The real marvel IMHO is how Dubai can be bankrupt one month and inaugurate the tallest building in the world the next month. 'Course those bailouts didn't hurt. I think the real wonder-of-the-world here is the fast footwork on the part of Dubai's bankers and real estate peeps.

And besides, WTFC? No offense intended to the OP of course, not shooting the messenger here, just sounds a lot like "who's got the biggest willy?" or "my tits are bigger than a Ford Pinto" or whatever. I mean really, they're all man-made freaks. "Meh" comes to mind in a big way.
