Currently, many online activities are not ruled by any laws yet. One of them is online gambling. As far as I know, gambling is legal in casinos in Germany, so it is unlikely that it is illegal for Germans to play online. There have been attempts to make it illegal, but so far to pass laws of this type would be too complicated and difficult to enforce. Many casinos are concerned about their legitimacy, thus they do not except wagers from citizens of the US. They feel to do so would jeopardize their legality, since US citizens are not supposed to be betting online. So far, I don't think anyone has been prosecuted for placing bets at an online casino. About 1/2 of Casinomeister's visitors come from domains within the US; most of them placing bets regularly at their favorite casinos, some being quite successful.

Since this legality issue is in a gray area, the law will probably not support you if you have difficulties with an online casino. But forums such as this keep casinos in check (many casino owners regularly visit to see what people are saying about their casinos). And Casinomeister will only allow those casinos which provide fairness in play and excellent customer service on its site.

I've received nothing but complaints about this casino, in fact I removed them from our list of recommended places to play. As for casinos I do not recommend, I'm glad you asked Steve. I'm in the process of organizing a list to be posted here at Casinomeister of places where one not ought to play. Of course I'd never recommend a casino that wasn't liscensed, nor would I recommend any casino run by Claude Levy.

Most casinos seem to be on the up and up concerning fairness relevent to their software, BUT there are a few who have really left players out in the cold with non-existant customer service. Some have been completely unresponsive to their customers' needs or complaints. To begin with, here are a few casinos that seem to have problems:

Avatar Casino -- unresolved customer complaints
Vegaspalacecasino -- unresolved customer complaints
Casino-on-net -- customer service

I'll need to dig through the archives here in the forum for more problem casinos (if they are still in business). How about you?
