Your Input Please Spam Crackdown?

Received today, this may be behind the threatening e-mails some affiliates get (if they use e-mail marketing).
I don't ever send e-mails but I recall the thread Nicola started with a threatening legal letter.

I am writing to inform you that The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK is targeting more than 400 companies believed to be using people’s personal details to promote online gambling websites, this campaign is part of an investigation by the ICO into large numbers of spam texts linked to the gambling sector.

As licenced gaming operator, we have a duty to obey the ICO’s rules and regulations which we take very seriously, we require all partners to fully comply with our partners’ terms and conditions, including our marketing spam rules. The breach of our terms and conditions will result in your account being closed and all funds due being withheld.

However much I forward them to that number you posted a while back, they keep changing the name they are coming from.

BGO - Daily to both yahoo and hotmail (despite Bgo_Glenn trying to put a stop to it)

CR - say no more on this one.

I had got kind of immune to its 'wind up' ability but this past couple of months has sen it increase tenfold and now it drives me bat shit crazy.

On a positive note, I have noticed that the MT secure trade affiliates have got their house in order and backed right off to maybe one a fortnight

I know that is true from my own experiences BUT please remember that it's this 7726 reporting which gets fed to the ICO eventually and helps them implement the policies like the one in my OP. So yes the spamming twats change numbers etc. but the ICO knows who they are.

P.S. Got a new Galaxy before Xmas and it has a wonderful SMS tool whereby I entered simply 3 words that stopped EVERY casino spam text!

I have not had one spam text disturb me since - 100% success every 'normal' SMS has got through and every single (silent) text in the shit folder has been a casino one!

Every week or so I simply go to the blocked folder and select all and delete. Never had to open one.

Basically works like an e-mail spam folder. You just see the title of the filth, check the boxes all at once and DELETE without ever seeing the content.

Singapore are cracking down more on spamming as well:

ONLINE GAMBLING A PROMINENT SPAMMER IN SINGAPORE

Online gambling companies apparently undeterred by nation's draconian online gambling laws.

Singapore has some of the toughest anti-online gambling laws around, including measures against players, but that has apparently not stopped illegal operators from bombarding locals with mobile phone spam, according to the Straits Times newspaper.

The newspaper reports that Singapore's privacy watchdog, the Personal Data Protection Commission, has released statistics showing that online gambling promotions are second only to fast loan offers when it comes to cell phone spamming.

The statistics show that from January to September this year the public filed 8,800 complaints with the Commission regarding unsolicited messages offering loans and online gambling...and that is probably just the tip of the iceberg. These two categories alone comprise 80 percent of all mobile phone spamming, the watchdog notes.

The Commission points out that spammers are not only transgressing anti-spamming laws, but are abetting illegal activities, and although incidents of this nature have actually declined this year, this persistent and invasive form of marketing remains a concern for the authorities.

The Times also reports that from January to September, the public also filed 2,200 complaints related to personal data breaches and subsequent spam activity. Under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act, which went into effect in July 2014, organisations that fail to protect personal data can be fined up to $1 million per breach.

The Act requires that companies must check against the numbers listed on the Do-Not- Call Registry before sending out marketing messages or making telemarketing calls. Launched on Jan 2, 2014, the registry now contains more than 920,000 phone numbers of consumers who do not want to receive any marketing offers by phone, SMS or fax.

The Commission has taken action against more than 20 organisations and individuals under the Act so far.

CR - Renee approached me when i posted the last time about spam, nothing since.

So they can take you off the list if they really want.

Just put the latest link in my laptop and gives me this

Yes, the 7726 service can still track a number if you forward them.

It's a built-in thing on the phone nothing I downloaded. It will also let you add numbers too from any message you receive.

Downloaded something called True Messenger from the play store.
See how I get on with that.

I really wanted something which would add on to my normal messaging service, but spent ages downloading different ones and then binning them cos they didnt look right good.
