Sock on a C*ck

Ok, so what's your opinion on this?

The gist: raise awareness (and $) for testicular cancer by posting a pic of a sock on your manhood.

Ok, so the good - I mean awareness is good right? And funds certainly help. But is it too far? Are guys being brave and generous or using it as an excuse to upload 'dick pics'. Or do the means matter to justify the ends?

My mother and brother are both cancer survivors, so seeing $ go to help fight cancer is fantastic.
But seriously, I'd think the LAST thing either of them want to see is my semi-erect private parts splashed across facebook.

Seems like an idea that someone came up with when they were drunk. :what:

Raising money for research is good, and if that's what these guys want to do, then that's ok too - most of the guys who would do it probably post dick pics anyhow and at least this way they have an excuse to do it and can maybe do some good. Plus the idea will probably get a lot of press for cancer research and that might be good too.

That being said if I had kids I wouldn't want them stumbling across any of those pics on Facebook or whatever. And if I knew anybody who was going to pose, I'd probably be questioning their motives a bit.

EDIT: Just noticed that the thread title is backwards!

Ok, I thought the pics would be more "PG" rated than "R" rated. Maybe too much info, but my husband and I did this for kicks years back when we were first married, I don't even know how it came about, we put a sock on his manhood, but it was a long white tube sock and the pic didn't look as "R" rated as the pics I saw in you link.

If my daughter was on facebook, I wouldn't want her seeing these pics. I would die if I saw my father post a pic. Or if I had a son. Or worse yet, imagine if I had a daughter and an older son, and she saw him post a pic! I could go on and on....

I'm wondering if it was for breast cancer and there was something like "clips on nips" would people feel different? We seem to be more open about girls bodies than boys. Take movies for example, I think I remember maybe 3 movies where I saw a mans penis, whereas I can't count the times I've seen a girls breast. Or what if it was for cervical cancer? I'll stop now.

So, after this long winded, no point post...why not come up with something that's more covered? "Lockbox on a C*ck" or "C*ck under a Dock". I think it's a good idea, but maybe more thought should have been put into it.

This is actually going to become quite interesting. It's absolutely taken off, and hundreds (if not thousands) of men have uploaded their socked wangs to FB.

I'm curious to follow the fall-out vs praise, and the impact of it on social media. (Will Zuckerberg shut it down, support it? Sponsors have gotten involved and media coverage).

The scariest part I find (outside of minors surfing it), is that every picture is linked back to your profile. I mean, your buddies, families, and potential mates have pics of your thang. And in today's digital age, it's FOREVER out there. If you have a public career down the road, will your boss find it admirable or offensive? Your kids. ..(shudder...mom).

It's certainly, I expect, profound in the ramifications.

Interesting. Seems in these past two weeks I've had many discussions in regards to kids raising kids and the mental state of kids in general these days. It's no wonder the things I'm seeing kids do or say when adults can't act like adults and lead by example.

Don't care what the cause this is wrapped up in. Give because its important and in your heart to do.

So first it started off with celebrities like Kim Kardashian bearing all. This lead to teeny boppers (in other words idiots) who look up to these "role models" bearing all. Now there's the men's way. But it's okay right because it's in the name of raising awareness? Yeah I disagree. I hate to see where we are ten years from now. An STD riddled planet earth, the final frontier

Of course minors have access to it. There will be lot's of praise. Sheeple tend to follow the heard. Today's society is f@cked up!

Whatever happened to good old fashioned dignified techniques of raising awareness?

the social network plat form's that produce this need to pay a hefty fine but i think such fines should be ear marked to a specific needy group else the sic polititions will reap it

I'm curious, as I'm not on facebook...is it mostly younger men, or is there older men as well? My first instinct would be an older man would have more smarts than to post something like that. Not saying older men don't do that, but they probably wouldn't show their face. Right?

As you said about a career, don't some companies look at a potential candidates facebook page? If I was an employer, I'm not sure what I would do, it's like a catch 22. You can't really fault someone for supporting this cause, but then again, isn't there a better way?

Yes. These days with so many people using various social media outlets it was a natural evolution in the hiring process. I've seen guys not get hired based on their Facebook page.

?

It appears to be men ranging from college to well into their 60s. While I'm sure some guys enjoy flopping it out, it seems others really do it for the cause, being testicular cancer survivors themselves, or friends and family of victims, with wives supporting their choice to post. Faces are shown and comments from others including family and spouses, earning donations (along with jibes, protests etc). News coverage to date is limited so discerning more is hard to find. I'm still on the fence. Outright nude pics are pulled. And if the information regarding what it's brought in is true, it's pretty impressive for over a day running.

From what I looked at in the article they could sell ad space to raise additional money. :puke:

If what I've seen so far is accurate, it's raised a million plus pounds. Verifying that is another matter until there's some real news coverage, which I'd expect will be in full swing soon enough.

Found one that fits

a few days ago a woman suffering cancer posted a selfie of herself without makeup which took off and within a couple of days she had thousands of shares and loads of woman were following suit and its raised over a million for cancer charities. This is just a tacky male equivalent obviously started by someone that figured its as near as he can get to posting naked photos. And with the power of social media these days it never takes long for many more to copy. But end of day if it raises awareness and money for cancer research then guess some good comes out of it.

I personally think this campaign is tacky and tasteless. I am no prude but I think people should conduct themselves with decorum especially in a public setting like Facebook. Do these people realize that the boss or potential boss has access to these photos so it could negatively impact current or future employment prospects? Do people not think before they jump in with both feet?
Surely they could have come up with a better campaign in order to raise awareness. On the tv right now in UK there is an ad for awareness of testicular cancer, I think some sports personality is in it. I think that ad is tastefully done and will help get the message across. This Facebook campaign is just plain foolishness IMO.
Now I am off to have a look at some socks:xxx

This is at least more "grown up". I heard that this produced a considerable surge in donations to cancer charities. Whoever started the male version should have been equally subtle, as it's clear the women didn't have to "get their tits out" in order to have a significant positive impact on awareness. Perhaps men should have posted their "morning face", unshaven and messed up hair, droopy eyes, etc to follow on from the no makeup theme.

It seems Facebook are trying to shut this one down. Pictures are getting removed automatically as soon as someone reports them. This seems to go against Facebook's usual policy of defending the right to free speech, and only removing the most universally offensive pictures. A while ago, Facebook defended the posting of "beheading videos" by religious extremists as their right to free speech, even though they were universally condemned as grossly offensive, even illegal under the laws of some countries.

These pictures may well be childish, but everything is covered up. A Facebook friend of mine had his removed within a couple of hours of putting it up, and sod his right to free speech regarding awareness of testicular cancer.

Facebook have just dug themselves into a hole, as by trying to shut this down, they are making people even more determined that they will fail. They only have so many staff, so they can't hold back this campaign forever, especially now it is being reported that it has raised a couple of million in a couple of days.

OK glad it raising money. Is it offensive? Does it make you think of the cause? I think if its something that can get people aware then even tho its not what I would consider a normal campaign it works for me. Hell who knows maybe one of these guys put a sock on it and felt a lump? Could have saved someone you know. Thinking outside of the box and shocking people may save lives then go for it.

Last year there were big busted women wearing shirts from different baseball teams with the logo save 2nd base for breast cancer awareness. My daughter who was 11 looked at me and said mom what does that mean. It opened up a good conversation for us so in my eyes it worked.

Now for the men next year maybe we can tape measuring sticks on um == and call it stick on a dick. Then lets see how many would be willing to post.

I guess the new name of the game is Shock value--think about reality shows have taken over tv, well in this case it would be shock the monkey. :D
