Hi,

Is there anyone who can tell me how to find what programs are constantly running in the "background" of my PC that I really DON'T need to be running and may be slowing down my PC?

I notice it drags every once in a while and thought that could be the problem. Especially when I have, say 3Dice and pogo.com going at the same time. Or any 2 casinos.....

Your thoughts?

Running windows vista

HP Pavilion

using Chrome

with Trend Micro Titanium

Thank you for any input!

you can look at what processes are running by starting up the task manager (ctrl + alt + del) that will show you what processes are running and how much cpu and memory they are currently using,

just dont fall into the trap of googling every process that you dont know, because a lot of harmless things will crop up in the results of less then reputable websites telling you, you have a problem and need to install OUR software to fix it nonsense.

by the sounds of its quite an old pc and generally they do they clogged up and slow down over years, theres nothing like a spring clean (reformat/reinstall to fix it), even my ancient old laptop feels ok after a reinstall :D

Hey,

For VISTA you might try following:

1. Go to [Start] and Run - type MSCONFIG in the search window at the bottom of the Start Menu, hit Enter and the search MSconfig will come up.

2. This takes you to a page with a list of programs that start when you boot your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary, others are simply not so be carefull what you want to disable. :thumbsup::cool:
