Funky Monkey...the new slot from RTG, I have noticed several racial connotations in this slot and just curious if anyone else had noticed the same ?

The Monkey in the blue polyester suit has an Afro

The Monkey on the Bongos has Braids sticking straight up on the top of his head like a well known rapper...not naming him though

The Main Monkey wears the getto brother Pimp Daddy Hat...I could go on but I think you get my point

Is the creator (designer) of this slot machine trying to imply something here...(Monkey and African Heritage)......if not, then why not have any white or other race in the slot theme?........Just Curious

Personally, I'm not racist myself and never have been, hell some of my best friends are black

Just an Observation !!
 
Doh!!! See how ingrained racism is? I didn't even notice. I just thought it was 'cute' or funny. fex me.

Chimps have pink faces, (only the pygmy chimp or bonobo, the most intelligent have dark faces) they could have done other stereotyping.

I really think the argument to go to specism as well.. they are depicting chimps or apes and calling them MONKEYS!

Me neither, but in this ridiculously PC world we live in, things are scrutinised and scrutinised again and again, until they find something that they think might offend one person in a million.

Incidentally the link mentioned by the first poster must exist somewhere in his subconscious;);):)

it couldn't be that "funk" is generally thought of as a black style of music? and although it is an outmoded genre, the word "funky" still has roots there, as in:

"dag yo, those be some funky beats y'heard!"

Agreed. But the fact is there are still racists and it's they that have forced the world this way. Usual rule: the minority spoil it for the majority. I still find it hard to believe in the 21st century there are people who still think skin colour is important.

The point at which I realised humans aren't intelligent wafetr all was when you were no longer supposed to the "fat controller" the "fat controller" in Thomas The Tank Engine. FFS...which tw*ts make these rules up..lol :rolleyes:
 
It madde me think of Mod Squad...you know....the days of Funk...which means commodores etc....

lol, i understand where rob is coming from. it's just an observation that makes you curious. i, being of the asian persuassion, still cringe a little everytime i see "nips" in the candy aisle. :D

haven't played the game yet, though. i'm waiting for the casinomeister bonus on tuesday.

Of course, but it could have depicted wild cherry or kc and the sunshine band and not have been questiobaly offensive:D

Don't know how old you are but... there was a time ... mid 70's was it? ... that lots of folks -- even 'whitebreads' got perms (if needed) and wore 'fros.

But anyway... I see what you're saying, though I didn't pay any attention to the depictions originally. There is also Mucho Grande (or whatever it's called) at MG, and all those eastern/oriental slots, and Loaded (which hubby has always called 'that PimpDaddy game') and so on.

Personally, I just think these software people need to start worrying about improving original themes, mechanics, and gameplay more than 'how many ways can we diddle with the graphics and reskin this same game'...

Loaded depicts a culture... Women could be offended because, to me, it depicts pimps and prostitution. If Blacks are offended, they need to take it up with their brethren who created the stereotype. (not a graphic designer depicting or exploiting it)

FM depicts monkeys as blacks, and the more I think about it, the more offended I become.

About the Loaded game....I do remember the first time I played it.......I was actually quite shocked and surprised by the stereotypes displayed in it. I can't say that I've ever had that reaction on any other slot and I don't know why I did then.

Well... maybe... but Loaded isn't supposed to be about a 'pimp daddy and his prostitutes', it's supposed to be about a rapper and his fine ladies. :D

anyway... I think we all have worse things to worry about. If any particular game is offensive, fire off a few emails to the relevant casino and their software provider, and never play the game -- or even boycott the software entirely if truly horrified.

As for the game, Strange observation! The world is just to small.

.............my boyfriend in 1977 had an afro and he was as white as cotton and i have had a fro as well, i guess its just how the person reads into it. i see nothing wrong with it myself imo.im a child of the 70s so fros and funky music, stack heels and lots of gold chains seems the norm to me from someone from that era....................laurie:)

I feel you laurie...had some of the same outfits back in the late 60's and up to the mid 70's...I will have to see if I can find some of my pics of me and my bros to post of the Funky days of dress that we grew up with....:lolup:
