Hey Guys,

It appears that some of the paytables have changed on the Rival slots at some time (I am unsure when any of this happened). Nifty mentioned a couple slots have changed and I decided to check them all against my records. Here is what I have found (tried to put worst offenders in order - worst at top):

Reel Crime, Art Heist - Payouts decimated (could this game have gotten a worse payout?? Seriously?!?) Scatters no longer pay, except when you trigger the bonus round.. Wild adds 2x multiplier. Looks like they removed 2 scatter symbols along with the free spins + 3x multiplier it triggered. But they added 3 other symbols as scatters now and drastically lowered their payout. All symbols basically pay crap now. Wild only pays on 5 of a kind. And top payout in the bonus round is cut in half (although the minimum you can win is much higher).

OLD Paytable:
Old Attachment (Invalid)

NEW Paytable:
Old Attachment (Invalid)

Grandma's Attic - Paytable drastically reduced except for the scatter which went up slightly. Wild now has 2x multiplier, but the free spins feature was decimated by changing the possibility of 3x - 10x mutlipliers to a standard 3x only :(

Old Attachment (Invalid)

NEW Paytable:
Old Attachment (Invalid)

Hobo's Hoard - Payouts were drastically reduced except for scatters. Wilds payout on at least 2 of a kind, but the max jackpot there is reduced by 1/2 (which is a lot)

So 80's - Payouts decreased mostly overall. Wild has 3x multiplier now and pays out on 2-5 of a kind. Free spins scatter only triggeres free spins and no longer pays out anything (from the looks of it).

Dog Pound Dollars
- Wild now has a 2X multiplier and the paytable is larger for that symbol. To compensate for that, most of the payouts went down.

As The Reels Turn 1 - Payouts Changed Only. The images attached are NOT very good, sorry.

Atomic Age - Payouts Changed Only. Removal of some of the payouts on 2 of a kind.

For Love and Money - Paytable changed, wild now has 2x multiplier.

Hole in Won - Payouts the same. Only 1 change - it now says 'Wild Symbol appears only on reels 2, 3, and 4. I assume there is no change, but this is added for clarification.

Metal Detector - Payouts changed all over the place.

Thanks Nifty for the heads up on this!!!

It looks to me like they lowered the variance. Be interesting to see how the % payouts have changed but I guess that's not possible - do they show monthly audited figures? That may be worth watching over time.

Rival slots (and other games) usually list the expected payout in the help files. I don't know if these numbers have changed or not, as I did not save the specific values. I checked 3 games in the list above. In each case, the help file indicated an expected payout of 96-97%.

It seemed like Rob said the figures were available, but I don't recall how...
I would expect if the slots are now more 'bonus-centric' and the variance was lowered as he said it would be, that the bonus rounds would pay more.. it looks like less in some of the screenies:confused:

Oh Rooooooooob

edit: didn't see the payouts in slotocash help files

edit2: ahhh, thx SW the help file inside the slot, the fine print at the bottom....

Great detective work, kwblue. It will be interesting to see the effect this has on the long-term. I thought their games were about as low variance as you could get without betting $1/spin and getting back exactly 95 every time.

For So 80's the help file at Cocoa says it pays back 96.41% but I don't know if this is the same as it was before or not.

I thought the same thing... Some of them look like they are not even worth playing any more :( Sad - Grandma's Attic was one of my favorites, but I certainly won't play it now.

Great posts KW, but I think you could be painting a worse picture than it actually is.

What we don't know of course, is whether they changed any of the reel layouts at the same time as the paytables. However I think it very unlikely that they have reduced the overall payout percentages by much, if at all.

In the past many players complained that their slots are too low in variance, and this was certainly my impression when I first played them.
My recent experiences (which I'm pretty sure were after the changes you posted) were that indeed the variance has increased.
Personally I welcome this because before I never felt I had a chance of a BIG win, even on the bonus feature, but lately I've had some very nice hits!

They other thing about Rival slots is that the features seem to hit FAR more frequently than at MG or RTG for example - which makes the games more 'playable' in my book.

As you know I record all my play, so once I have built up a reasonable amount of data I'll see what my feature hit frequency actually is.
My gut feel is that on most of their '2-bonus slots' the features hit about every 40-60 spins.

Good work KW

Stupid Swede played i-slots without knowing there was no way to come out ahead. But that's beside the point, look at the paytable that popped up in the bonus round  I'm guessing this is a bug cause it sure as hell didn't pay according to it?!

Yeah - and a very OLD bug... I have a screenshot like that from over a year ago. Would be nice if they would fix a simple stupid bug like that.

I'd willing swap that for the paytable I got on one of their other slots...
:eek2:

I haven't posted about Rival for quite some time due to the fact that I dont play there anymore, if you are looking to play for a long time and eventually lose your money then this is the place, the payouts suck ass!! A big win is very rare, and it would not be consider a big win by M/G, RTG, Playtech or 3Dice standards. I dont know what they are thinking, no other software providers change their paytables like Rival, I think this has to be the 4th time in less than 2 yrs, and to not tell their customers, why do people still play with them???

The pay table is low (meaning more wins worth less each - assuming the payout is +/-96%) and they don't have the payout percentage on the help page from within the slot yet... but

The most mesmerizing new slot I've played in a long time is the new Rival 'Future Fortunes'. Haven't seen any staggering wins on it yet, but tripled my deposit twice in a row (100/300)

Seems the bonus rounds in this one are good

Here's the paytable

Thanks for reminding me!

I've seen adverts for this slot & thought the free-spin bonus sounds VERY interesting with the whole first reel wild!

I had been wondering where to play tonight...

{Edit - after trying it in fun mode!}
Notice the glaring omission in the paytable - just as in Hole in Won?
It doesn't tell you how many free-spins you win, or whether they are subject to any multiplier :(
(It's 5 spins and they're not)

Will carry on trialing & see if it's any good!
;)

OK chaps - VERY brief review:-

I just played 500 spins in free mode, and was slightly surprised that it seems to be a low variance slot. (I was expecting a high variance one after their recent releases). But this is a VERY small sample!
Typical of Rival slots, I got LOTS of features - including back-to-back free-spins and even BOTH bonuses at the same time! (See below)

In my 500 spins (which include the free-spins these days!) I got:-

The free-spin bonus 10 times = 1 in every 50 spins. Returns were (roughly):
x14
x17
x13
x23
x7
x43 < hit a 5 of-a-kind win!
x32
x14
x10
x16

The Tarot card bonus 6 times = 1 in every 83 spins.
Paid x10 (the minimum) 5 times & x20 once.
This bonus appears to be a 50/50 double-up on the first pick - but unless I was very unlucky that is just for show.

Unfortunately I didn't record my starting balance, but from about my 100th spin to my 500th I lost about $80 @ $2/spin - hence my low variance conclusion. You'd really need to hit a good free-spin bonus or two to make a killing on this one!

However - I think I like it!
KK (Bonus feature junkie! ;))

Rare screenshot - both bonuses can trigger together!
(I did get the 'pick a prize' at the same time as free-spins on The Osbourne's the other night - but that's different because the pick bonus is random & independent of the reels).

Sweet... I wonder how many tarot bonuses you could stack up in the free spins, if any?

I got through four picks in the tarot bonus... took me a while to understand it, crapped out with out getting one once.

Do we speak the same language in re variance? I consider a game that hits seldom and pays greatly to be high variance and vice versa...

PS you can't click a line number on this game to increase or decrease lines bet :(

Interesting game, has some nice graphics.

The always win free spin is nice for sure, can remember getting free spins and almost popping a vein when I don't win anything in them.

So far doubled up already thanks to them. Hope that it will keep doubling for now.

I am so glad I am not the only one who thinks what the Rivals did sucks. I got chastised at another forum for saying something about it. I don't know low variance from high variance but I do know that when you get 40 free spins on Cleopatra's Coins and only win $1.50 something is wrong. And that is "IF" you get the free spin bonus on any of the games.

Plus I cashed out from one of them at the 2nd of the month and finally got my money on the 28th of the month. Danced me around two weeks before I finally had to change my withdrawal method (was before they got Quicktender so had to do ACH and they didn't bother to tell me it wasn't working until two weeks and many emails later).

I have spent a lot of money with these casinos but no more. I know it's gambling but I'd at least like a little kiss now and then.
