Hello all,
My name is Sammy Teahan and I'm a student at Utah State University. For one of my final projects I have been asked to conduct a little research on a web-forum such as this one. I figured that before I post any mini-surveys or questions I should ask moderator for permission. I have done so and haven't heard back from anyone so I'm going to go ahead and post a couple of questions. If there is any problem with this simply let me know. That was never my intention.
Anyways, I would love to know a little more about this group! I would like to know more about some of the traditions, customs, and unspoken rules so any info you could provided would be greatly appreciated. I will only be using this to write a basic research essay and it will only be read by my professor. Here are some questions.

1. Tell me about when you first joined this group.

2. What are some of the unspoken rules that this group abides by?

3. How do you think those came about?

4. Have you ever face any criticism from friends/family for gambling online?

5. Do you participate here to gain networking and knowledge? or just to enjoy a social circle with common interests? How has either one influenced you?

6. Is there anything else interesting about this group that you would like to mention? (jokes, traditions, etc.)

Again, your answers would be very interesting and helpful to me. If you would like to get in touch with me for more information, just let me know.

Sorry, but you can't expect anyone to answer those questions out in the open here.
What you can do is ask if anyone is willing to give you some answers and in that case they can send you a pm.
A private message is always best if you want truthful answers.
Good luck!

And another thing. I do believe that I'm part of this forum, but I'm not part of any group.
Grouphug everyone:D

1. August 2004 - I used a search engine to look for information about casinos & their bonuses... and found CM instead!

2. Winner Screenshots should be total bet x100 or more. Don't dig up old threads (more than a year old) - start a new one!

3. Errrrr.... dunno.

4. No, never.

5a. Yes.
5b. Yes too.
5c. To try new casinos & games.

6. Everything! This is THE best online gambling forum on the net bar none. Spend a few hours reading the threads and you'll see why.

4. Have you ever face any criticism from friends/family for gambling online?

Every time I talk to anyone I know about gambling online, crazy roulette sessions, or payouts I receive, they always look at me like, " This guy really thinks he's getting paid from these online casino's ", or like I'm speaking a different language or something. USA folk who don't have experience gambling online really have no clue or understanding about how it is. I can say, however, that spending time on this forum will increase anybody's knowledge pertinent to online gambling, in fact I don't really know how I did it before I stumbled upon Casinomeister years ago.

1) Long time reader, but you can check any particulars as to the day I created a forum account by clicking on my name ;)

2) Unspoken rules don't tend to work online, imho. Too many people looking to do what they want without giving a crap about the social construct of 'Unwritten/unspoken rules'.

3) See above ;)

4) This is an extremely personal question, and I feel it might be better asked after you read up, and check out the forums some and get to know some people. It should probably be messaged privately, to the person in question.

5) A) Yes B) Yes C) Yes D) All of the above. E) Barbra Streisand? (AwooWwoooOoOo)

6) What KK says above is true. CM's forum is the standard for every part of the industry. The mods here are ethical, fair, firm, and consistent in their actions and opinions. The members are awesome, fun, intelligent and helpful!

Some suggestions for your research: Find a casino with a NDB, or a couple of them. I'd suggest trying all the softwares you can and visiting both Rogued and Accredited Casinos, as well as those that are neither here nor there. Ask questions of the casino support, where you can- be a player for a little while. :)

After getting a taste of what its like to be a player- even if it is an EXTREMELY small taste, read through the forums!

Of particular interest may be that Rogue List- take a look at why each of those groups were rogued. Follow the threads- I think you'll learn a lot about CM just there.

Oh- and keep a lookout in the 'recent visitors' for peoples who's names have become Red. You'll be able to get another view of the forum- the best and worst of CM lists are probably the best place to find the most interesting cases- Many have to due with Player Fraud.

I am happy to help the pursuit of knowledge, so feel free to contact me if you'd like to ask me a question! :)

1. Tell me about when you first joined this group.

* Last year, was always browsing in here anyway but officially joined end of 2011;)

2. What are some of the unspoken rules that this group abides by?

* I presume they follow the same guide lines as most forums. Be polite, constructive. No profanity, no personal attacks, no spamming etc etc:thumbsup:

3. How do you think those came about?

* The Internet has always had the same rules and protocols when it comes to forums. I assume the basics were laid down here and then built upon :)

4. Have you ever face any criticism from friends/family for gambling online?

*Not at all:eek2: It helps the majority of my circle are cronic gamblers....

5. Do you participate here to gain networking and knowledge? or just to enjoy a social circle with common interests? How has either one influenced you?

*All of the above:cool:

6. Is there anything else interesting about this group that you would like to mention? (jokes, traditions, etc.)

*Interesting crowd and has been a very educational experience :D- learnt alot from the pros:thumbsup:

And in answer to a question you didn't ask :p but I just cant resist.

Students cant gamble. The majority of casinos have this rule, and apparently its written in stone:rolleyes::p

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I really appreciate it. If you are interested in responding but would like to send me a pm feel free to do so.

1. Tell me about when you first joined this group.

2. What are some of the unspoken rules that this group abides by?

Ever heard the expression, "I do not suffer fools gladly"? That applies around here, although I don't see it expressed as freely and as often as it used to be.

3. How do you think those came about?

I think there are a lot of very well versed, intelligent, opinionated, varied background people here and some of them have very strong senses of their thoughts and opinions. Personalities traits (good and bad) shine through in posts sometimes. Sometimes with thought provoking posts, sometimes with humor, sometimes in your face, sometimes very rude. Oh and once in in a while you get the crazies, off the wall folks posting which can be quite entertaining although I know it's bothersome for the mods.

4. Have you ever face any criticism from friends/family for gambling online?

I don't tell them, gambling in general is frowned upon in my circle.

5. Do you participate here to gain networking and knowledge? or just to enjoy a social circle with common interests? How has either one influenced you?

I came for knowledge and then I have stayed for various reasons at any given time.

6. Is there anything else interesting about this group that you would like to mention? (jokes, traditions, etc.)

I find the different aspects of personalities interesting, although it's not quite as colorful here as it used to be. I kind of miss the occasional melt down by various posters. Sometimes it was quite hilarious when one went off the rails.

Again, your answers would be very interesting and helpful to me. If you would like to get in touch with me for more information, just let me know.

1. Joined after viewing 32red 'Casinomeister' casino of the decade award on the 32red casino webpage *note* I already played at 32red before I found CM:p

2.No flaming, no profanity, treat other members with respect

3.I don't really know, probably from members arguing and posting off topic stuff (derailing threads) on other member threads.

4. Don't talk, all the time, though most of my family gambling, so who are they to talk lol

5. Yes, what would be the point in a forum if you couldn't network.

6. Dunno :)

1. Tell me about when you first joined this group..

I joined a few years ago but I'm still waiting to get picked for a team. I always get picked last. Once that gimpy kid with the crooked foot gets picked I'm sure I'll be next.

2. What are some of the unspoken rules that this group abides by?.

How the hell would I know? Nobody speaks them.

3. How do you think those came about?.

I think most of them got passed around in a blank memo.

4. Have you ever face any criticism from friends/family for gambling online?.

Only when I lose.

5. Do you participate here to gain networking and knowledge? or just to enjoy a social circle with common interests? How has either one influenced you?.

Hey, that's 3 questions. Nobody told me there would be 8 of these.

6. Is there anything else interesting about this group that you would like to mention? (jokes, traditions, etc.)

You can only take half of the posts seriously. The trick is knowing which half.

1. Almost SIX years ago! Funny, I had to click my profile to find out, how time flies...

2. I don't really think there are any unspoken rules - there are rules in the forum that everyone needs to follow. No flaming or swearing or fraud etc. Then there are rules about 'mobbing' which may not be actually written in the forum rules, but aren't exactly unspoken either. Well, maybe there's one - don't be too thin-skinned or take anything that people say too personally.

3. hmmmm

4. A little bit, yes.

5. Both. I've actually learned a lot from the people here on the forum, and although I may not be a better gambler, at least I'm better informed. Also I'd like to add that without Casinomeister's help we'd probably still be trying to get in contact with the 'VIP rep' from that one casino to get Ray's jackpot paid. And yeah being part of a group is fun. Gambling online from home is a solitary pastime, so if you hit something good and you want to brag there's always a place to come post your screenshots. If you want to complain about something you can do that here too. If you're having a problem with anything there's usually someone here that can help or at least commiserate with.

6. Every year on April Fool's day (if he's around) Bryan does something weird with the forum, and once every year or so Vinyl's keyboard goes on strike. That's about all I can think of right now. :)
